  1. Thanks Singh! Lots of other Granths on that site as well.
  2. Does anyone know if it is possible to get copies of Sant Isher Singh Ji's diary? Apparently they wrote of their own personal experiences with simran, Gursikhi etc. It would be interesting to read how they performed simran and developed so much pyaar for Maharaj Ji - it's easier to get directions from someone who's been where we want to go init?
  3. Without Gurbani, Amrit is just sweet water.....The initiation may be similar but what about the Gurbani, Rehat etc. Also, there are HUGE differences between Sikhi and all variations of Islam e.g. the sanctity of Kesh in Sikhi - Muslims shave their moustaches and around the groin, the whole body when going on Haaj (whether Shia or Sunni); Marriage to cousins is taboo in Sikhi but common amongst Shias (if you've studied basic genetics, you know how foolish this is); Temporary marriages are allowed for Shias; Their view of Sachkhand....; Sunat (circumcision); etc etc. The point is that Sikhi is distinct from Shiaism. Of course there will be similarities - There is only 1 God after all - but Sikhi is distinct. My 2cents worth
  4. Have any of you read the stuff on these boards? It seems that sometimes questions have been asked about Sikhi, but most of the time they're answered by non-Sikhs. Javanmard, you wrote that you went to the birthday celebration of Imam Mahdi but the majority of muslims at the site (link below) believe he hasn't been born yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbreligion/ Matheen
  5. The way I see it, we follow Rehat because of pyar - i.e. so much pyar for Guru Ji that we do everything they say, even if we don't know why.
  6. Fateh Bahadur Singh! Have the people you've met heard of Sikhs before?
  7. Singho, you must be good mates with Dharamraja to get that kind of inside info.....
  8. If you can't learn Shaster Vidiya, I'd recommend Brazilian jujitsu for ground fighting and Muay Thai + boxing for stand up. Krav Maga seems pretty good but not many teachers. Personally, I feel that traditional MA have become too showy and rigid. You want to learn to disable an attacker as fast as possible, not waste time throwing spin kicks etc.
  9. Thanks for the replies! Pheena - what do you mean by 'vacancy'? - emptiness? another thing I'm not sure about (hence my name...) is how to read Gurbani with Pyaar. I was told that this is the way that Gurbanis 'Anbhav saroop' can be experienced. Does it mean reading slowly, trying to understand?
  10. I've heard from a few Gursikhs that Bairag (described as intense longing, but I could be wrong) is essential for bhagti, as is Pyaar for Maharaj Ji. How is this developed and increased? show me the light....
  11. this needs sorting - hopefully Irish Singhs will take this to court... http://www.independent.ie/national-news/si...an-1057548.html
  12. how has this not been censored yet? or perhaps i just have a maela munn?
  13. a bit off topic - how does this relate to certain foods being rajoguni, satoguni and tamoguni? I've heard that satoguni foods are good for keeping your munn shant....but don't know which foods fall in which category
  14. The old days were good - having met some of the early singhs e.g. Inder Singh Gill & Tara Singh Dogra, I can confirm this. The situation today is different - There are hardly any Singhs (young or old) with untrimmed Dhara or with interest in Sikhi. Tourists often mistake African members of the Akorino sect of Christians with Sikhs due to their turbans - there are no African Sikhs to speak of in Kenya - the employees at Makindu Gurudwara are required to cover their heads and many choose to do this with starch pughs. I know loads of ex-East Africa Sikhs get nostalgic but the truth of what is happening to our community here hurts....
  15. 3HO are here? i haven't seen them yet.....as for the 'Sikhs' here - they def not doing great on dharmik level.....no parchar to speak of, at least not in Nairobi
  16. Hemp protein is widely available in UK health food shops - has anyone on here tried it? (it's non-intoxicating btw) the following recipe reminds me of something I saw in India! from www.yaoh.co.uk: Hemp Seed Milk Perhaps the biggest gift the hemp plant has for mankind lies within the seed. Anyone can access the full nutritional impact of the hemp seed by following this simple recipe: * Take some organic fresh hemp seed and soak for 24 hours in distilled water with a few organic almonds. * Drain, rinse and blend in a blender with a little distilled water. * Strain through a cloth or sieve.
