  1. I consider myself more of a sikh than a Sikh. With the emphasis being on disciple rather than a religion. And I consider sikhi panth being a separate panth. All panths have distinguishing qualities; or as they say, all paths lead to the same destination. However, that does not make me paranoid and start hating the term hindu, unlike what is taught. Am I supposed to cry if someone called/calls me a hindu?? Unlike some sikh kids, I am not haunted by the word hindu hindu all the time. I try to follow sikhi, not a form of anti-hindu panth. Hindu was just a nationalistic term back in the day to describe a hindustani. Its use has somehow slipped into being a religion due to colonial interference in indian culture and traditions. So to summarise, hindus ain;t a panth, they're a quam. But people are confused including modern hindus who think hindus r a panth?? I dont even believe in the term hinduism, I don;t even use the term hindu"ism"!! I don;t even know what the RSS propoganda is about Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale? I don;t really go read stuff written especially by RSS... What annoys me is when peopel start dissing puaratan traditions and Dasam Guru Darbar and nihang singh traditions by saying they are RSS!! By the way that sikhsangat site won;t efven allow some of my posts in GUPT section, that just makes me go grrr. I know some sites can;t handle puratan traditions such as jhatka, but sikhawareness and the hindusikh forum can both handle puratan traditions. So I think we need to rethink who REALLY is anti-sikh? And I consider a forum against puratan sikhi is anti-sikhi, do you not??? Another example is supporting people who are both for and against raagmala. Mioght be acceptable in SGPC panth, but not in true puratan sikhs panth.
  2. oh i am a fan now am i? just like to cuss fanatics, and since sikhsangat banned me and can;t seem to handle me, where am i supposed to go??? cos this sikhawareness forum is full of knowledgable sikhs, not a bunch of racist kids who think they r the panth!!
  3. how cultural/traditional are afghani sikhs?
  4. what do u think this is, nindaksangat.com ? lolol
  5. oh absolutely, but the problem is when the traditional stuff and gand is looked under the same banner. I think it is important to presevre some good traditions. OK, is this at the sikh wedding parties? I think soem families are more liberal than others. Although, I am seeing the not-so-good clothes slipping into some women, it doesn't look good. I am sure most westerner kids don;t understand most of the lyrics, but no excuse for using lewdness. Although I think you mean the suggestive lyrics right?? I have been to brunel uni club for bhangra night, and I thinkthe type of people and clothes are getting worse every year. I guess I developed a fundo attitude when all this stuff about girls being coverted at unis came out. I thouhgt, maybe I could make a difference in the club, catch them at it. lol (I guess it didn;t help I didn;t really chat to stranger girls) Also I used to see some decent Singhs going there watching from the sides, I thinkl they went for same reason, to watch out for any trouble. I saw one with bana a few times, and theres always tghis Singhni with bana with him. I don;t know who they are, I just used to see them in uni now and then, oh and once at Hayes Tesco lol I have matured now and just lost respect for those girls, so don;t care what they convert to. Although they have banned smoking, I don;t wanna go to uni club anymore to do bhangra, the people now there make me feel a bit alien, I think I will just be going to earlier family functions now Hmm, yeh I always hear about some practioners of shastar vidiya from Nihang Niddar Sing's classes going clubs, but I mostly just see it on the net. I know some of the London class. I guess some of the people who preach against him should mention if they go clubbing Maybe we should have a punjabi music censorship board, which either rates it acceptable or just bezhti.
  6. Oh no, I read the page before this, so I guess just "bhangra" dancing is manmat to you, I thought this was only preaching from some BOSS and sikh soceities. OK, this is your opinion. However, this would also make gatka manmat, and I say this since some of the people who preach this also practise, sorry PLAY, gatka. I do come from a conservative background, where bhangra dancing or just dancing in general IN PUBLIC display is frowned upon, and even public singing back in the days, and was left to people like marasis. If some of our traditional views spilt out into gatka, I think there would be some fireworks.
  7. lol joker, I don't think really think he was PC, or was he?
  8. I think nanakpanthis of Sind stopped describing themselves as sikhs because of something to do with SGPC. Now, are we talking about the just term "sikh" or even "Sikh", or actually being a sikh or follower. If we go back to pre-British times, did all the followers of Guru Nanak panth call themselves sikhs? I think from the earlier consensuses that were done by British, the sikh term was not used by many followers, where some even called themselves hindus, and the Singhs just called themselves akalis. Also, from what I know, many nihangs and udasis do not really care about the term sikh or any labels... From the way I see it, perhaps it was just the British influence that made using the sikh term for DIVIDE and CONQUER, usually used in the context of "Sikh" with a capital S when written in english, taking it away from the original meaning of follower and instead to mean a more tribalistic religious term.
  9. OK i have a different answer; sampradaiye exist because extremists weren't able to destroy them, thanx
  10. Russia, really, do you have further information of this? As in, they spread dharm there now or back in times of the Gurus? Because I know many russians became sikhs, but that was because of 3HO yoga lol
  11. Yes some do, especially these days, mostly due to the SGPC influence.
  12. to be honest, regardless of someone being associated to a group of people, it doesn't make the person dharmic or adharmic automatically. Are all people called "sikhs" dharmic? Course not... Are all "religious" and amrit-dharis sikhs dharmic? Again, answer is no... Can a muslim think the same way as a sikh or hindu? Also, Can a maseet be incorporated in the indian tradition of going to a place of worship? I think, we can look at things in a cultural and traditional manner, or we can look in a rather tribalistic manner. Now, Bacchitar Natak describes something. But does it apply to all people who are labelled "muslims". Similarly, the Gurus have used terms such as "hindu", do they apply to all hindus?
  13. What about, live and let live...?
  14. Mithar, I think that is just going from one extreme to another, where either only a special organisation can reach sachkhand, or everyone can. Its not PC to think that individuals not belonging to certain panths or jathas can reach sachkhand state. But what you described is certainly PC. And I agree, PC is full of bull, that is why I have jatt in my name because I am very un-PC From the kattarpanthis and terrorists I have seen, they are actually very PC, I find forums like SSdotcom very PC as well.
  15. true, there is need for a site where more than one individual's views are displayed, reducing the bias, but it should be an information site instead of a forum like sikhawareness, which is more for discussing like this. Its good for learning, but not for everyone, especially the younger people. I am looking forward to nihangsingh.org site to being updated with information.
  16. I think some places they do their parchar out in the open is at BOSS events and sikh society meetings. Perhaps not the anti-raagmala belief, but definetly the "only sikhs can reach sachkhand" belief. Also the nindya of meat eaters, but that doesn't come from one jatha alone. OK, so one of the parchariks who presented London BOSS sikhi week even at at Brunel before summer, he was drawinglines on a board and saying that sikhs reach the topline called sachkhand, and everyone else reaches the lower line called heaven, and I think there was a hell line as well. Now I think this guy was from the jatha, but this kinda stuff is being taught as regular sikhi to everyone. It was funny when kali christian cornered him, and he started saying something different, "other beliefs just reach THEIR OWN VERSION of sachkhand". So these jatha peoples practising their own version of Al-taqqiya concept? lol Of course they might not think they need to chat to nihangs because nihangs are for them to do nindya of because they eat meat. hmm, I wonder if Babbar Khalsa would shoot people for reading Raagmala? Also what would happen if someone did kirtan of raagmala at a kirtan smagam (most are akj smagams or are all of them?). I know BOSS needs these guys, so they're always handing out AKJ labelled kirtan smagam leaflets and forwarding their e-mails. So, anyway, this is allowed or not, since it happens in gurdwaras right?
  17. well ok I should have made it more clear. How do people who are fiercely anti-hats feel about turbans that look more like hats. I am only asking this question half-heartedly
  18. lol, panthic weekly is having mysql errors, I wonders if someone attacked/hacked/overloaded their site?
  19. yes but then i could say a gurdwara is a gurdwara, but the sangat and people inside however.....
