  7. If sikhs are weak of faith that a mere statute of law is what defines them then what future is there for the panth.? Is our 'conciousness' in the law books of the Indian Penal Code? or any other countries law book for that matter?
  8. you're right there. Its the 'getting used to it' part. it just takes time which people just don't seem to have these days. The hardest part is learning the first several pages of a larrivar senchi. After that you get into the groove of things and the words start flowing. The same is with santhia generally. I was taught that once you do santhia of the first 5-10 pages of senchi you have got the majority of the SGGS sorted.
  9. I think most sects favour the larrivar version. The problem lies that it takes effort to learn how to read it. Some people when they do santhia learn it in Paddchedd but then move onto Larrivar when actually reading bani generally. As in the students of Sant Jagjit SIngh Harkowal wale. Sri granth.org is Padd Chedd written as the words are all separate. Larrvarrwouldbewrittenlikethis! Withseperationoccuringonlyafterasentenceisfinished. From what I know there was a massive row amongst the sampardas when the SGPC first started writing in PaddChed. It was considered that same as other changes made to the SGGS. But now it seems that people are more accepting of it.
  10. I dont know if you were jesting. But look around at the state of Gurdwaras in the world. Mmm..... there maybe something in what KDsingh has said.
  11. Padd Ched is bani where the words in sentences are separated. This started a few decades ago. Larri Var is where all the words in a sentence are joined together. This is the original way of writing bani.

  13. does anyone know why the above happens when I copy and paste?
  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-14784228 Wikileaks: India's Mayawati 'sent jet to collect shoes' The chief minister of India's Uttar Pradesh state sent an empty private jet to get a pair of sandals from Mumbai, leaked US diplomatic cables say. Ms Mayawati, an icon to millions of low-caste Dalits, rules over India's most populous state which is also one of the poorest in the country. But the cables on whistleblower site Wikileaks described her as "obsessed with becoming Prime Minister". Ms Mayawati or her office is yet to respond to the leaked cables. An official in the state government told the BBC the government was unlikely to respond. Cables, dated 23 October 2008 and marked confidential, are among the latest set of documents released by Wikileaks in recent days. "When she needed new sandals, her private jet flew empty to Mumbai to retrieve her preferred brand," the cables say. They add that the chief minister is paranoid about her security and "fears assassination" and employs "food tasters" to guard against poisoning. She maintains a "vice-like grip on all levels of power" and all decisions must run through her or a small group of advisors, the releases say. Ms Mayawati has sparked controversy for building statues of herself and other Dalit icons, but she denies encouraging a personality cult. In the last few years, huge concrete parks have been built in the state capital, Lucknow, and Noida, a Delhi suburb, with scores of massive stone statues of Ms Mayawati dotting the landscape. Statues of political leaders are generally put up posthumously, but Ms Mayawati says that belief is outdated. Critics accuse her of self-glorification. She accuses them of conspiring against her.
  15. Ahh I got ya! similar to what MI6 and CIA did with suspect by handing them to Gadaffi in return for help combatting AlQaeda in north africa.
  16. Very true. thats why I don't offend him - even when he critises me and my White Masters! I might need to borrow a few pounds off him oneday. Hedge your bets!!! greatest rule of game theory. applicable to all life.
  17. All you need is computer with internet access and then whatever funds you are willing to lose. You need to learn how the platform works (ie whatever you see on each brokers screen). This is fairly easy. There are usually training guides on the website. Then your technical skill. ie When to go long, when to go short, when to just wait on the sidelines. These are the only three choices you will ever make when trading. learning this can take forever! These principles stay the same whatever you decide to trade: options, spread betting, futures, derivatives, shares, forex etc etc. Start off by reading and attending courses. Most books are rubbish and most courses are there to fleece you of money!!!! Understanding Human psychology is very important in trading. A trader I know recommeded That one reads books on sports psychology. Whats your current knowledge/skill level? Whats your trading style? Lemme know if you wanna know more on how to lose your hard-earned dosh. Easy way would be just to deposit it into my Santandar Bank account!
  18. I may be off to India in a few weeks time . I want to try a get a copy of the complete Dasam Granth (pre-sodh committee), Hazoor Sahib version. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy in Panjab?
  19. .....or some old chap who served with sikh soldiers. and I dont mean WW2 guys. I once came acrross an British Army Officer who picked up the lingo whilst on an exchange programme with Indian (Sikh) regiment in the 90's.
  20. open up a spread trading account with any online firm such as cityindex.co.uk. Deposit £100, (of course you can put in your life savings if you wish,) enough to start trading on various markets and 'learn' the game. Then watch your £100 reduce to pennies as emotions of fear and greed take over your sane mind. Then get a job, earn more money, save and repeat until you make your fortune! You will really recognise what your own ego is when you start trading.
  21. yep noticed that over the last couple of days. wonder why? paranoia?

  23. http://blog.beliefnet.com/projectconversion/2011/09/the-name-is-singh-andrew-singh.html At first I thought WTF! This guy is hurting the sentiments of the Sikhs. We should complain to our MP's, Senators, MLA's. and start an online petition to stop this guy. The SGPC should set up a five man committee to investigate this matter and report back to the Panth. The RSS and Congress and the Bhamans are really trying desperate things now to destroy the Sikhs. I started looking for the telephone numbers of the Sikh Channnel to raise awareness of this major beadbi. Then it occured to me; this is an interesting venture he's undertaking. Would be good to keep updated. And so far he seems to have quite a bit of knowledge of Sikhi. Hope he does well and achieves what he is trying to get out of it.
