  1. just a tree, people are being superstitious
  2. War is brewing... :| good thing us monks know that Shaolin kung fu... but on a serios note, I think this topic is dead so let's leave it at that..
  3. I don't really believe in things like this. I'll just see when that year rolls around...
  4. aguptkaur, forcing your beliefs on anyone is not helping anyone's spirituality. If you were a truly spiritual person you wouldn't be going around condemning people for such inconsequential things. I'm sure there are more important things people should concentrate on if they desire to be spiritual. It is not your place to judge anyone. Worry about your self, and let others worry about themselves. This doesn't mean don't help others, but if you can't tell, you aren't really helping anyone become more spiritual. In simpler terms...CHILL OUT!
  5. I always felt Sikhi was a way to live my life, and not just a religion of rules. As far as I know SGGS doesn't address every social issue in the world. I think it teaches people how to deal, teaches people to have God in their hearts. On the topic of homosexuality, the only thing I think that could be used is that we are to live the life of a householder. However, that is still somewhat vague when it comes to being gay. I don't have a problem with gay people; I have some gay friends too. However, I will agree that it is not natural, i.e. the parts don't fit (there's a reason for having male and female). I think gay people can do what they like, I will not pass any kind of judgment on them, nor will I make them believe what I do. I would like further research on “being gay†though. I mean is it something you are born with, or is it a disorder. I think once we learn that then it will be much easier to arrive at a conclusive decision. No ignorant person should ever pass any kind of judgment (Right now the whole world is ignorant when it comes to gays). I have a question now, the Akal Takht, does it have temporal and spiritual authority over Sikhs?
  6. Damn...I can't believe this topic has gotten so many replies. Honestly I don't see what is so wrong with dancing. As far as I know, the Gurus did not want us to become ascetics. Some people are just too over the top when they think 'dancing' must be stopped. Noting wrong with dancing man, relax. Live and let live. Enjoy your life and PLEASE don't sit around worrying about something so inconsequential... I'm certainly not as knowledgeable as most of the people on this board when it comes to Sikhi, but I had throw in my two cents. 8)
  7. Cause your a WOMAN..................
  8. How come so many of you got Judiasm at the top of your answers. I was just comparing mine with most of the ones on here, and I got Mormon, as third. That and I was also farther away from Islam than most people... Not that I care so much, because a little test like this doesn't raise any doubts in my mind. I'm just curious..

  11. I posted this in Orchids' post in the Anti-Sikh Propoganda section (copy &paste): If someone is opposed to the play then please protest peacefully. If everyone is so concerned that the play will harm our image, I think it was just hurt more by the "violence" outside than it could have been by the play. Most people know fiction, ie the play, but if you get violent that is real. Also recognize that as offensive as the play may be she is whithin her legal rights have it on show. You cannot legally stop this. However you can organize peacefull protests to demonstrate you don't agree/support this. So our "image" won't look so bad. I think that is what the intention should be. Just recognize that more "harm" has been caused to the Sikh community through the death threats on her, and the "violence" than most probably would have been caused by the play. So all of you don't be so damn fanatical...Have you ever seen programming bashing Christians? Of course, but most people know Christians aren't like that....Now it is up to Sikhs through peaceful means to show that we aren't like the play shows us to be. Easier for Christians cause they are the majority, but it is essentially the same idea. Write intelligent editorials to the papers. Do anything, just don't be stupid about it. In multicultural countries, the State’s reasonable laws take precedence on all issues ( I say reasonable because France's Turban ban is not a reasonable law, and has nothing to do with upholding democratic ideals. They want to be more secular, but don't understand that secularism denotes neutrality.) If legally Christians can be bashed, etc..then so can Sikhs. Now it is up to us to through peaceful means that we are not like that. You may not like this, but this is life if you want to stay in a multicultural country. If you expect other people to bend a little for you, then you should bend a little for them (Called Compromise).

  13. second Dude...take up any physical activity...not only will you be in shape, have more confidence, but you'll also make more friends....
  14. Wait...so the gurus were god incarnated? What about when the guru ghadi became hereditary? And when it became hereditary, why did God incarnate twice in such a small area? Sorry I sound overly skeptical, this is all very new to me.. Well this just brings up more questions, I suppose it's time I begin doing some research on my own..thanks for replying
  15. what's wrong with coca-cola being served there? Everyone can drink it.. and caffeine doesn't hurt you, unless you consume substantial amounts consistently.
  16. I don't think you can really file some kind of formal complaint against this, especially since it was 2 years ago. Don't take such little things to heart. If it was someone your age I would tell you to tell em off, but if it is someone older than you try to explain it respectfully. I used to get teased when I was younger about being chubby, just used that motivation to hit the weights..worked for me..
  17. well then I guess you could trying bribing him..my sister used to do that all the time (still does from time to time), and I was happy..
  18. I'm sorry but guru pooja, sounds like a very Hindu view, cause that is how they worship their idols...When I go to gurudwara I do not pray to the SGGS..It's bani thats important, not the physical book itself.. Again I apologize in advance if I offended anyone..(I wish I didn't have to put such disclaimers, but then I would have people being offended over a discussion of somethign I don't understand).
  19. The idea of nothingness is deep rooted in Buddhism. They have always taught that nothing is permanent. And on the topic of Nirvana However some of the references made to nirvana have referred to it as extinction..of the desire, and attachment.. However, even the Buddha said that it cannot be explained, just experienced..(because if you attempt to conceptualize something you are limiting it..just like when people ask what God is...you can't explain it without limiting God to something, ie the creator...).
  20. Don't mess with 'em...take it from a fellow "little" brother....Ignore him and don't let him get to you, he'll eventually get tierd of bugging you...
  21. Thanks for the responses.. And I apologize to anyone that felt I was disrespecting the Gurus in anyway..I have the utmost respect for them. So well this brings me to another question..saying that the gurus were God manifested..are you talking about incarnation? I apologize for sounding ignorant, but I was always taught that God was this formless, omnipotent force/being....I was also taught that God does not incarnate into this world...He permeates it, is within all of us, but never takes a human form...I mean isn't this why we reject idol worship, and even Guru worship? Thanks for clearing this up, sorry if it seemed like I was disrespecting the Gurus.
  22. While reading the post "Sikhism is Wrong" in the Archived Discussions thread I began to think about somethings mentioned there. First I have a question to those that feel Guru Gobind Singh actually cut the heads off the Panj Pyarae, um how did he reattach them? I was always under the impression that the Gurus were enlightened beings, not demi-gods.... Also if those that claim the gurus had "powers." What is the role of God in Sikhism? I mean God is meant to be this omnipotent, omnipresent force; the ultimate reality in a sense..Does God really interfere in human affairs? I mean what is Sikhi's view on this? Aren't we supposed to be self-realized people, that don't need God to come down and help us. That is why we had Gurus, right? And Gurus are not god, they are merely teachers trying to show us the a way to the ultimate reality that is god (ie guru can show you, but you have to take the steps yourself)..you are attributing things like resurrection to the gurus... How can they do that? Isn't that God's will, what about your karma, etc...
  23. well crap...god is gonna be pissed at me... Cause I have many clothes those colors...hell I've even worn those colors in conjunction with each other... I don't mean to laugh at this, but how will this affect my spirituality? Am I a bad person because I decided to volunteer at the hospital last year on Christmas wearing a red sweater and a green shirt underneath?(Christmas colors..hehe).
