  1. heres refrence 2 him bein around wen guru nanak dev ji wos 18 When Guru Nanak attained the age of eighteen, his father Mehta Kalu thought of engaging him in trade. Thinking that it was a profitable profession and also his son would be happy all day communicating with his customers. So choosing an auspicious day, he called Bhai Bala to be Guru ji's companion. He gave twenty rupees to Bhai Bala and said, "Go with Nanak, buy and bring some genuine goods so by selling them we may make a lot of profit. If you make a good transaction, I will give you more money next time to buy goods." So Nanak and Bhai Bala started from Talwandi to Chuharkana to purchase some merchandise. They had gone just ten or twelve miles from their village, when they came across a group of hermits sitting in the jungle. Guru Nanak said to Bhai Bala, "Father has asked us to carry out some profitable transaction. No bargain can be more profitable than to feed and clothe these naked and hungry hermits. I cannot leave this true bargain. One will rarely get an opportunity to carry out such a profitable transaction." So saying he took all the money from Bala, placed it before the leader of the hermits and said, "I offer this in your service." The head of the hermits said,"Son, this money is of no use to us. We do not go to villages or towns. We stay in the jungle. Yes, if you get us a meal with this money we will accept it." Hearing this Guru Nanak and Bhai Bala went to the village nearby. They got meals prepared with that money and brought them to the hermits. With the leftover money they brought clothes for the naked hermits. This done they heeded home empty handed. When the two reached near Talwandi, Guru Nanak said to Bala, "You go to the village alone, I shall sit at this well." Bhai Bala went to the village alone and narrated the whole story to Mehta Kalu. Dad Kalu was very angry that they had wasted money on the Hermits in this way. Putting aside all work he took Bala and started to go towards the well. Reaching there he slapped Nanak. Bhai Bala tried to remind him that, "You had told us to make a profitable bargain, so whether you agree or not, Nanak has made a true bargain." For Mehta Kalu amassing wealth was the only true bargain, because only moneyed men are considered noble, gentle, honest, pious and lover of mankind. The means by which the money is earned are of no importance in this world to worldly men. It is only people who truly understand the value of good deeds know the meaning of a true transaction.

  9. yeh i agree mugermach singh.. peopel have based this segregation on ability. lets face it, men r stronger than women(o no..i gona get beats 4 seyin that) and they r betta at a hole lotta things..however, the things women r best at rn't rele appreaciated and no one no's wot it would b lyk without their mum or sis unless they actually lose dem. women and men r good at diffeent thigns, so everythin is balanced out and if u look at the bigga picture, they r equal.

  14. NO NO NO NO.... the guru's did NOT perform miracles......sikhism dus not go beyond the barriers of science and possibility....anything that we regard as being impossible simply did not happen. the guru's were gr8 ppl, spiritually and mentally.thsis because they were one with god..they didnt carry out miracles. some refrences to any miracles r metaphorical..a lot of the guru granth shaib ji is written metaphorically, giving certain analogies. many people take htis 2 literally. fateh
  15. hmmmmm. every1 should love waheguru more than any living thing.....but this is reeelleeee hard 2 do can any1 on dis forum sey that they love wahegurru more than they have ever loved any1 or nething? if they can, theyve certainly reached sum nxt level in sikhi and i respect that.
  16. no need 2 get lairy...i neva sed ur hatred wos directed at sum1 in particular, jus cetain viewpoints and ideas..u have to take in these viewpoints, not necessarily accept them or follow them, but certainly not show hatred towards them... i no its hard 2 do, coz wen sum1 sez sumtin rele stupid, ignorant or so obviously incorrect u tink 2 urself "bloody hell, how thick can sum1 get"but sikhi's lall bout learnin, and sum ppl need 2 do a bit more learnin than others.. so all i'm sayin is paaji, accept them and smile fateh
  17. oi mugermach..the hole point in makeup is 2 make urself look prettier..is it nt? so, y wear it..sikhs are sposed 2 b simple, dnt need 2 look nice 4 ne1..should b concentratin on more important things lyk kirtan and paath
  18. yeh fo course it houldnt, but..thats lyf
  19. yeh exactly, no need 4 it..pointless..a waste of tym
  20. yep....all dis has got a lot 2 do wid physcology..the way u feel whilst wearin particular colours, and the way ppl react 2 u wen u wear them. for instance colours lyk red are very vibrant and make a person feel outgoing, and warm colours like oranges and yellows make a person feel kind, happy, ..the usual so i do think colours do hav an effect on a person.
