  1. Fateh ji, I agree with what you saying SB ji, but I think there is alot of influence of the sangat that one hangs out with. So who is to blame there? I just think that she didnt get a chance to realise that she was on the wrong. I just hope that this dont happen again  . fateh ji
  2. fateh ji, I agree with you Steel Bangle ji to the point where what she did was wrong, but what the father did was totaly wrong. There could be a possibility that the parents are also to be blamed for a her actions to a certain extent. I dont know her family or her, so cant point out the finger that who is wrong and who is not, but what the dad did was not right. Is this izzat greater than the life of your own flesh and blood? Fateh ji
  3. Fateh ji, Everyone makes mistakes in their life and no one is perfect, at the end of the day all that matters now is that you are 100% with guru ji . :hearme: May this be a lesson to all, as they say " Even fools can learn from their own mistakes, but wise people learn from others mistakes!". All we have to decide is whether we want to be fools or want to be wise :?: Fateh ji.
  4. Fateh Ji, The way I have always pronounced it is without the N's. I have heard Giani Amolak singh ji doing anand sahib ji and they dont say any N's, so I just take that as the correct way to pronounce it. Fateh ji.
  5. Erm, dont know about reading, I was watching the movie ( no subtitles) :stupid:
  6. I dont think there is such a rememdy because its all about selfcontrol. I take it here that you are referring getting distracted while doing path? if that is what you were asking, as they say, practice makes perfect. So just do more path and seva. fateh ji
  7. Fateh ji, I got about two pages of Akal ustat translation....I know its not alot but its a start fateh ji
  8. Fateh ji I have tried to read all the posts and found them really interesting. As usual, a very informative post Nogroup singh, learnt alot from there. I know its abit late and the discussion has progressed alot further, but I really want to share my views on this post that penji made. I Used to think the same way about amritdharis as being very unaccepting of others, very strict and used to think one can only become amritdhari if they wanted to become a " Giani"...etc. But then when I started to talk to gurmukhs, found that they are more accepting then anyone I every knew. This lifestyle is not where one gives up living life but on the contrary, start to live life. All I can say here is that I was in the same boat as you, but one cannot really know the taste of the pudding even however much the next person describes it until tasting it yourself. You have seen amritdharis and made judgement on that, but there is alot more to what meets the eye. Penji, the question is not about whether guru ji will accept us, they are there with open arms just waiting for the time when we want to accept them to be our guru. Life without guru ji is life without any purpose. Just click the link below, read and understand the whole shabad. http://www.sikhitothemax.com/page.asp?ShabadID=3234 Amritdharis do have fun! What is fun? Fun is what one enjoys to do. Everyone here has a different understanding to what fun is. To some, fun is going out to pubs and clubs drinking and getting drunk, to others it might be to go out to cinemas, eating out and spending time with friends, to some might be to play sports, and to some fun is going to rehansbais, doing kirtan, going to the gurdwara to do sewa with friends.....etc. Everyone in their own right is enjoying themselves even though it is not seen by the other person. Talking about socialising, in the western culture, socialising means going to bars and clubs to have alcohol while interacting with others, If one doesnt want to do that, does that make him/her unsociable? I think not. It is really good that you have a balance in life and coming into sikhi.....keep it up. I think I have gone away from the topic and I do apologise for that. Do ask questions like this and feel free to express yourself, I dont think anyone is here to judge anyone, but just to share views and opinions and to learn from each other. I hope I havent offended you or anyone here in anyway as that was not my intention. Fateh ji
  9. So the difference is that on one you are going to tie a turban, I think it would be odd if someone tied a mini turban round their beard ......sorry bad joke. I dont think there are any restrictions on tying the beard. You might have to tie your beard if you are in certain proffessions and there is nothing wrong with it. It a personal thing but I might be wrong. I dont think by tying ones beard would make them less religious. These days it has become a fashion thing. I just have to end by saying, there is nothing like a singh with open darhaa(dhari). Fateh ji
  10. Fateh Ji! How did you possibly think that our guru's are just human beings. :?: Guru Nanak dev ji was one with god, so was god ( so were all guru's as they were all one joth!) and here you are saying that he was just a simple human beings. I suggest that you read the sakhi of how bhai lehna ji became guru Angad dev ji. If I came across rude, please forgive me. If you cant find the sakhi....I will post it later on. Read bhai Gurdaas ji diya vara, they have done alot of 'ustat' of guru Nanak dev ji, how every where there are praises of Guru Nanak Dev ji. I know I havent posted any links here but dont have the time now, will do it later on when I get back. Fateh ji.
  11. I dont think there is anything wrong with wearing a patka, as long as you are taking part in sports. I wear a patka when doing manual work such as painting etc, dont want to get my pagh dirty, so dont think there is anything wrong with that. Other than that.....always wear my pugh! Sikhi is about being practical. Fateh ji
  12. Fateh Ji I dont think there is anything wrong with that at all. It is really great if you do, respect. And for anyone who disagrees, touching the feet of elders or of mahapursh is totally different from when you bow down infront of guru ji. Who thinks it is wrong to matha tekh your parents and why? Fateh Ji
  13. Fateh Ji It is guru ram das ji who tell us about amritvela and the time it is. This is where they are describing who a true gursikh is. If anyone knows that shabad, please post it here or if not I will find it and post it. Fateh Ji
  14. I dont understand what you are trying to ask here. He is going for SGGS ji because he was reborn as a sikh in india by the name I cannot recall now , but he mensioned the name. I hope that answers your question.
  15. Where ever there are sikhs, it is a sikh area
  16. Fateh Ji, Singh Ji, I will be your bro as well.....me was a hermit . And bro, amridharis are not above everyone else. When one takes amrit, we join a school of the Khalsa and start from the lowest class. I think it is a misconception that some ppl have that amridharis are above everyone else and everyone else inferior. Anyways bro....keep it up and hopefully can see guru ji in you one day
  17. How is it a business? Ofcourse they have selfcontained rooms, because almost everyone who is going to mombasa stops there for the night and does darshan of gur maharaj. There is no fixed rate there, just like any gurdwara, there is a treasury where one can make donations. These donations are there for the up keep of the gurdwara. It was like that five years ago when I left the country. Other gurdwara's have self contained rooms, would you call them businesses as well? The rooms are there for the sangat to stay. Once again I may seem harsh in the way I put my point across, so please forgive me for that. Fateh Ji.
  18. I just feel so bad of hearing all these things said about that gurdwara, and I dont say this because of the story. It sure is a remote area, but that dont mean that they would make up that scam. Yes, I think they pay ppl to work at the gurdwara, but do you know why they give the ppl a job? Have you got any idea of the way the ppl live in that area? I think not because we all have our nice homes with central heating to go, have the luxuries of tv and sound systems......etc. The ppl there in Kenya are really poor and in a remote place like Makindu, even worse. The nearest place to get a job is in Nairobi which is 2 hours drive. So the gurdwara helps these ppl. You meansioned that it was a 5 star hotel. That is a very serious comment to make when you havent really been there. I dont think that any 5 star hotel offers langar, because I think they would be too busy trying to make money. Anyone and everyone is welcome to the gurdwara and can have langar. I am sorry that if I sounded abit harsh there. Please forgive me for that. WJKK WJKF!
  19. Steel paaji......you serious?? you dont want to get married? :? What makes you think that you cant do waheguru di seva by getting married? If that is your choice then, best of luck! 8)
  20. Veer ji, stick to the path and hopefully become one of the Khalsa. Amrit has alot of power, I can assure you that once you take amrit....soon your family will follow as well . Dont worry, guru ji is with you all the way!
  21. ------> This is Lovely, but just hope that I dont get too into the beats that I forget the messege itself, Mool mantra.
  22. Shanti shanti!! Take it easy ppl and calm down. Breath in and breath out! There is no discrimination of the sexes, men and women have equal rights to do any seva. I dont think that there would be a problem if a woman did the seva of being one of the punj piare. It is all about a person's Jeevan. Talking about punj piare, how are they chosen? :?: Fateh Ji
  23. Dear MI, It may be true what you wrote but as a sikh, we are not allowed to condemn any other religion or say that we are the best. I believe that we are all gods children and god within everyone, be it from which ever background or faith. One does not choose where he is gonna be born, so there can be a muslim who is a true muslim and by truely following the ways of Allah, can attain salvation. Same applies if one is a christian, hindu , or any other faith. As Guru Nanak Dev ji said " if you are muslim be a good muslim, if you are a hindu be a good hindu, or anyother ". It is great that you chose sikhi and hope to become a singh one day, all the best Veer ji  . I am sorry if I said anything wrong or anything that might offend you. Fateh Ji
