  1. THE old ladies make their own mala from unn (wool) by kind of twisting the wool somehow and having fat bits and thin bits.....and..well i dont have a clue how they make it really
  2. i agree with you lallesh. no one said it shouldn't be used.
  3. well dads pind is nagra (near bungi) mostly when i go to india i just stay in mums pind. We're like 5 mins from kariam and 10 - 15 mins from namashahr. Namashahr has got this one Singhs shop which is where you can buy all things like kasherri and stuff.... and actually his is the only place where I found Bhai Balbir Singh Ji's cd's (paatshahi 10 colleciton) 8)
  4. Hi Rupz I watched the string theory programme the other day on channel four. It was really good. Science is finally catching up with Gurbani. Gurbani mentions Anhad Shabad. There is apparently always shabad (or vibrations as they like to call it in the programme) going on in the world calle anhad shabad...this is what very saintly persons can hear and apparently there is no sound like it, its meant to be very amazing. If we consider that (from my understanding) the world was created from the shabad oankar, and there is shabad (or vibrations / music) happening at all times then the string theory is closer to that than the other theories. There are also five types of shabad ( or strings) being played at all times. " Vaji Panch shabad" Also the string theory makes the parallel universes very near to us , we could be a metre away but without access (ie kamai/avustha/siddi) would not be able to reach them. Anyway.. I've waffled on enough..someone else please correct me if I'm wrong, my knowledge of Gurbani is limited.
  5. to be honest Lallesh I don't think use of a mala is very practical. If you are meditating in one place and not counting the mala (thus using it as a concentration tool) then that is fine. But I feel if you use it to tally how much paat is done then the concentration goes to the tally and doesn't stay on the jaap. Then you can rush it so in the end you have done mala but not really done paat with piaar and shanti and contemplation. In the case of where I want to do a minimum of some amount of paat, I find it easier to use my fingers to count..ie the 3 spaces for each finger. left hand = 15. then 1 on right hand. 7 on right = 105. +3 = 108. This way no one knows when paat is being done and you can do it at any time!!! It could just be me I suppose
  6. neo, I hope you don't mind...but personally speaking from experience I think in todays world where we are always on the go, it might be better to naam jap in our hirde (inside us) all the time, walking about, etc. That is a much easier path but also I think you get more done like that. Don't have to go to lengths to hide the mala etc and the concentration is more in the naam you are japping rather than the mala itself. Just a suggestion!
  7. oh my god that reminds me... I still got to do them paats of when i went to see Baba Nand Singh Ji's place....you know at the bottom of the Gurdwara, where he used to live and that... It was very clean
  8. okay from what i know when people say they have done 1 mala of naam simran they have said 1 vaheguru on each mala of a 108 bead mala. I do not know about why 108 is so important but apparently it is. However baba nand singh writes about a "pukee mala" which 4 times the 108 mala. Therefore to do one pukee mala you say vaheguru (or whatever simran u say) four times on each bead of a 108 mala. Okay the nanaksar gurdwara (of baba nand singh) says 50 sukhmani sahib paats are equal to one Guru Granth Sahib Jis paat, as is 250 japji sahib paats. how correct this is I don't know.
  9. the thing is neo, that its very easy to say "so and so" should be kicked out of the panth but i feel that its not really our decision to say that. Really we don't know who is a Sikh and who isn't nowadays, the age of Kaljug means that peeps are just not interested in Vaheguru and it is now quite rare to find people discoursing about God. However it is also true that many people who dress up as Sikhs fail to grasp the fundamentals such as humility and kindness and therefore are not really Sikhs, but there are others who don't look all that religious but they are amazing in their rehats. The point is that Guru Maharaj can say who he accepts as his Sikh and who he's not going to accept, hes the one that knows everything, and as said before by Guru Ji, rehat matters, and not that you are a Sikh. Rehat is inside and outside. So neo, before we say who should be in a panth and who should be outside, lets just consider that its not in our ability to determine that...unless you can say you are anterjamee.
  10. oh dear... I always make that mistake as well  .......sorry khandeydhar!!
  11. yeh.. you can do that survey narsingha! I'm sure it will be fascinating!!!! Not.
  12. lol ..... i dont wear earrings.
  13. being non judgemental is also a virtue of a sikh.....
  14. because it looks nice to the wearer.
  15. Guru Gobind Singh Ji? *look around* where????? I want darshan too!
  16. firstly I don't wear jewellery ..not at the moment, but i might when i get married...same for makeup KS I believe that when Guru Maharaj said live simply he meant live a life with not too many complications, a husband and wife should see themselves as excusive to each other and no others should be seen in the same way, if a woman dresses up for her husband, wears makeup, jewellery that is a nice thing, the husband would cherish that. Some men don't want their wives to be like that and some women don't want to do that either....but....some do. Just like living simply also means to eat simply, not too many convenience foods, but nice simple dahl, chol, roti. Also to not have too many possessions, or take pride in them, to not think about what others have in relation to ourselves and then feel jealousy, also to work only enough to to meet our needs. And keeping ourselves clean, wearing clean clothes, good personal hygiene, lots of meditation, contemplation.. are all examples of simple living. However you fail to acknowledge that inside us sits Vaheguru Ji, the true jot, and that is INSIDE...do you think a person with makeup and a person with less makeup would be any different in Vaheguru Jis eyes..in fact he sees the piaar (love) a person has for him, thats what his eyes look at...what do your eyes look at?
  17. yo KS i can't believe you just said that!!! wearing jewellery means you are like a rundhee???? :? Singh I think you need to wake up, it is very much against the right of choice and freedom for women if you say "women shouldn't wear makeup or jewelery" some women might like to wear that, and it makes me very very very uncomfortable that people such as yourself seem to come to conclusions about women so easily. :? So a woman wearing jewellery/makeup should be taken for someone either wanting to attract men (whether married or not) or beautify oneself.... I wonder what your ancesters would make of that, what your great grandma would think of this... some women just feel better with it on or it is a tradition to wear "beautifying things" What about having a zest for life, if a woman decides to make the most of what she has with makeup what has that got to do with you? Where do you get the idea of make sweeping statements like this for the whole of one gender? further more please could you provide the proof of what Mata Sahib Kaur used to wear, jewellery or otherwise.... makeup and jewellery are a womans choice, just as the decision to have braces fitted to straighten teeth is also a mans (and womans) choice, you could do without them but still, some feel better with the straight teeth. Its own personal choice.... Sikhi is not about killing personal choice...... I am to be honest, very shocked. This is just as bad as Bhai Chaupa Singhs thing about women not cooking food at certain times of the month....
  18. P.s my point about patience is a virtue was next time KS goes India, he could check out the proof, because even if lalleshvari gives the proof, its best to see for ourselves do you not agree?
  19. I stand corrected Bikramjit Singh.
  20. khandaydhaar i don't think Guru Ji said it, his Sikh, a man named Bhai Chaupa Singh did. Apparently. Someone told me it was cause some guys in the olden days didn't eat from women, they had stuff only cooked by men, and stayed in the company of men....
