  1. Amrit bha ji is in India, so he is not 'Western Sikh Scholar'. His thinking/ Gurbani explanations given by him/ his dress/his food/his mother-tounge etc is Indian, or in his own words 'Bhaarti'. And also, he does not come online now, after death of his father. (http://www.sikhawareness.com/sikhawareness...opic.php?t=5636)I think he was the only member on this forum, who does 'katha' of Gurbani and suraj parkash etc. No doubt, he is a scholar, but ex-member of the forum.
  2. Here are the pictures: http://www.sikhismguide.com/bhai_avtar_singh/basj.html
  3. Guru Hargobind sahib ji said that 'puttar' (son) is 'nishan'. It was unbeleivable for many people that Amrit bha ji himself performed the 'Antim Ardas' of his father and also took the holy 'Hukamnama'. I was there. When Amrit bha ji started the 'Antim Ardas', whole the 'sangat' was in bairaag. I saw that some of the sangat was sheding tears, when they saw Amrit bha ji performing the Antim Ardas of his father. Everyone was able to feel the pain in voice of Amrit bha ji. More pictures will be added on sikhismguide.com in two or three days.
  4. http://www.amritworld.com/bhai_avtar_singh_passed_away.html http://www.sikhismguide.com/bhai_avtar_sin...assed_away.html Bhai Sahib Bhai Avtar Singh Jee has left for his heavenly abode. On 23 October 2004, in the 'Amrit Vela' (early in the morning), he passed away. He was father of our forum member Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit'. He was born in 1939 in a village named 'Muhari', Distt Abbotabad, now in Pakistan. At the time of partition of India and Pakistan, he moved to 'Sirhand', and then to a village, near 'Chhachharauli'. He had a deep impact of partition on his mind. During the 'Punjabi Sooba Morcha' by 'Shiromani Akali Dal', Bhai Sahib Bhai Avtar Singh Jee was arrested. He spent two years in jail for the demands of Punjab and Sikhs. In 1961, he started his journey on bicycle, which he started from Ambala and reached Calcutta. Then he went to Tatanagar, and then Hyderabad towards South. On his cycle, he reached Sri Hazoour Sahib. He started preaching Sikhism in Tatanagar and then Raurkela (in Orrisa state). He lived in Raurkela for 9 years. During this time, he joined Hindustan Steel Limited for his livelihood. In Raurkela, he met a famous Sikh personality, Nihang Tehal Singh Ji to whom he accepted his religious teacher. Then he shifted to Chandigarh and settled here. In Chandigarh, he did complete 'katha' of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Gurudwara of Sector 34. Then he shifted to S.A.S Nagar (Mohali). Here also, he did complete 'katha' of Shri Guru Granth Sahib in Gurudwara of Phase 1. Once again in this Gurudwara, he completed 'katha' of Guru Granth Sahib in 1986. In the evening Diwans, he completed katha of 'Gur Partap Suraj Granth', 'Panth Parkash', and 'Gur Bilas Patsahi 6'. On 30 June 2002, he did complete 'katha' of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in this region for the 4th time in Gurudwara Sacha Dhan Sahib. For completing the 'katha', he took nearly 10 years. During this period, he also did the complete 'katha of 'Gur Partap Suraj Granth', 'Panth Parkash', and 'Gur Bilas Patsahi 6'. The 'Antim Ardaas' (last prayer) for Bhai Sahib Bhai Avtar Singh Ji will be held on Saturday 30th of October 2004 at Gurdwara Sri Sacha Dhan Sahib, Phase 3B1, S. A. S. Nagar (Mohali), Distt. Ropar, Punjab.

  8. His operation has been postponed. Latest test reports are not good. First of all, he will have to cure his kidney problems. He is sad, and entered again his 'kaali Gufa', that is, no talking to anyone, just deep meditation.
  9. Today we got his blood test report and other tests. Reports are not good. He has infection in kidneys, which causes un-bearable pain. Further tests are required.
  10. his version? He was planning to give original version written by Singh Sahib Joginder Singh. Ofcourse, he would add his comments too, as he did in 'Rahatnama Chaupa singh'. Are you going to publish Hazoori Maryada Prabodh in English or Punjabi ? Love.
  11. I think Amrit bhaji is not going to translate Hazoori Maryada Prabodh. He was thinking to make its original Punjabi version available online, but Narsingha bhaji said in another thread that Hazoori Maryada Prabodh is coming on Narsingha's site, so Amrit bhaji canceled his planning and started to work on Rahatnama Bhai Chaupa Singh (in Punjabi), which is completed and available in PDF format.
  12. Amrit bhaji is not keeping well for the last 15-20 days. His main problem is respiratory problem due to which he has difficulty in breathing. His blood pressure has risen due to that. He is under constant medical treatment and is to be operated upon in a few days. Though, he is doing all his routine work with 'Hathh', but I think he will not be able to make posts full of mystery, in this thread for two or three weeks.
  13. Your choice, but 'Jalebis' are 'Desi' sweets.
  14. Jalebi is a great Punjabi sweet-dish. I do not know what it is called in English. I would appreciate you if you can please tell me what Jalebi is called in English. :?: Lo ji, we heard a Punjabi fake (folk ) song, 'Kerhe Yaar Ton Jalebian Khaandi'. Bas Ji, there was water in our mouth. You will say why I have used the word 'our' instead of 'my'. It is because Amrit bhaji was also feeling some water in his mouth. Lo ji, both of us, in our desi 'puthe sidhdhe' kurhte pajamas, started our journey to sweet shop. We entered a shop and purchased some Jalebis. But bhaji said it is not good to sit in such a shop, because we are in desi type puthhe sidhdhe kurhte pajamas. So, we purchased jalebis and came out of the shop. Bhaji was looking for a solitary place, where no fly (two legged fly) could take its share from our jalebis. So, we found a tree, and stood there. As we tasted jalebis, we felt that we are chewing chewing-gum. Bas ji, we threw the jalebis away. Song was not good now for us, 'Kerhe Yaar Ton Jalebiaan Khaandi, Hun kehndi diabetes ho gayee'. Par bhaji kiththe manan vaale san ji. Next day, we reached Chandigarh and entered famous 'Nanak Singh Sweets'. Lo ji, jalebis were so delicious. We ate many jalebis, plate was empty in a few minutes. Now, we were licking our fingers. Bas ji, now we are 'gulaam' of jalebis. We go to that shop twice in a week. We want to get rid of jalebis, but jalebis do not want to leave us. Now, we sing, "Kerhi dukaan ton jalebiaan Khande, Hun roz uththe hi jaande ho". Paramjit singh Mintu www.sikhismguide.com
