Need Dilruba/Esraj Lessons in Bham UK

Recommended Posts

You could learn from Ranbir Singh Ji Namdhari who is a great Taus and Dilruba player (one of the best). He teaches in Wolverhampton and Leicester.

Or you could learn Dilruba/Taus from Harjinder Singh Lallie who teaches at Nanaksar Taat in Wolverhampton on Friday eves.

I don't think any of it is for free, people need to at least cover their expenses.

drop an email at gurmatsangeetnetwork@googlemail.com, and you will get all details

Chatanga neither does Raj Academy, Lallie Ji charges per semester and with no accredited qualification, whereas Raj Academy charges about £100-150 a YEAR (academic year) and you are enroled with Thames Valley University and on your way to getting a degree in Gurmat Sangeet.

That plus a docterate or 'professor of Sikhism' title and you're set for life with guaranteed room and board plus 3 meals and all u can eat parshaad!

All jokes aside and as weird as the course title may sound, its a very good thing there is such a class registered at a national level. Indians r definitely making the british pay the price for invading us by invading them back! Major credits to whoever got this done. it just gives people another incentive to learn Sangeet.

Yes Kooka, hilarious. That Gursikh youth in the UK now have the opportunity to learn the history of raag, the technicalities of raag, kirtan maryada (and application of), the numerous influences and styles of music used in kirtan as per Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, the evolution of kirtan, the history/techinicalities/comparison of tanti saaz, learning to play numerous tanti saaz, learning to become a teacher, learning to organise events, learning about recording/studio issues, giving youth the opportunity to pursue a full tmie career in kirtan through various channels whilst giving them them the chance to make kirtan seva a full time job in the process.

That is just to mention a few things. Hilarious Kooka.

I'll tell you whats even more hilarious, that 2 of the most talented Gurmat Sangeet musicians in the world - who are plastered all over numerous Namdhari websites - are senior teachers of the degree.

That Professor Surinder Singh Ji has worked so hard to promote Gurmat Sangeet and been able to single handedly establish 'free' state education on all aspects of Gurmat Sangeet/Indian Classical music is a testament to his grit determination, passion and unshakable belief in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

He has given talented and passionate Gursikh (as well as non Sikh people from all manner of background) the opportunity to seriously research and contribute to the academic and performance field of Gurmat Sangeet - and promote and educate the sangat in doing so. Students can specialise ni any number of areas i.e. composing, performance, instruments, raag research, musicology research in Gurbani, singing, promoting, teaching, history, comparative research etc.

It's a subject, and all subjects deserve a serious opportunity for all to study and contribute. Gurmat Sangeet adacemic institutions/departments already exist in respected universities in Punjab i.e. Patiala - run by the likes of the respected Dr Gurnaam Singh Ji.

The best thing is that people no longer have to pay extortionate hourly rates to the few people who have serious raag vidya and learn at a snail pace for 20 years before they actualy learn something - the power has been taken out of the hands of the few who have hogged this vidya for so long, and in doing so, nearly contributed to it's decline i.e. look at how sharing of his knowledge Bhai Baldeep Singh is (for anyone tht has spoken to him).

And in case that has soured your humour, here is some coal to fire your furnace, a Masters course in Gurmat Sangeet and Naad Yoga has been given th go ahead this year, soon to be followed by a PHD.

Think before you chirp.

LOLLLLLL an old geezer wanting to be the Guru HAHAHAAHAHAAHA, thats the funniest thing I've heard in my life!

Fateh Singh, thanks for your jocular contribution, as per usual.

May be you should share some of the knowledge that Baba Jagjit Singh possesses instead of hogging it all in the fear that a small facist minority may mock your Guru.

I am however used to people with bias, jealosy and personal agenda mocking those who are making a genuine effort to preserve and share (and I'm talking many people/orgs here not just Raj Academy). But it won't stop me communicating their efforts, rather than trying to hide and protect them in cotton wool.

I await the day you have something positive, uplifting, educational and/or productive to share with us all.

Anytime. I am actually amazed to learn about the great kirpa of professor Surinder Singh in setting up the course work at the university level etc. if it wasn't for Kooka's chirpings, I'd have never known what a gem he really is. As I said in my first post, major credits to him.

Also for some weird reason you seem to be having a bad hair (turban) day as I sense nothing but hatred and spite in ur comments. Rather unusual. Go drink some mango lassi, the heat's getting to you!

"If" you are not being your archetypal sarcastic self, then please accept my humblest and sincerest apologies. I am just a little tired of people constantly trying to throw water on the genuine efforts of those few who actually do, rather than say.

Funnily enough, we have 3 mangoes left out of the box my Chachi ji brought over on the weekend from Southall, so I will take your advice and "calm" my turban down.

Apology accepted. I'm just as tired of coming up with sarcastic remarks.

Good on u chatanga1 dude. Quite a change can be observed from Chatanga1 dude since he's taken Amrit. From a mere dumb bloke that didn't know crap but thought he knew everything to now someone who is making great progress and shows great interest in learning about Sikhism. In the words of a very learnt Namdhari Gyani, Sant Dhyaan Singhji: "vidya bin hangkaar, hau balhare tai jann". I portray myself at the feet of the scholar who shows no ego. Chatanga1 is definitely on his way there. Perhaps with a newer release of chantanga 2.0 :D

Oh professor surinder singh, who sets his students homework to sell his cds or hold an event where he is performing. Definately making money im sorry practising gurmat sangeet to the best of his ability. To be honest he has come to Bhaini Sahib many times and 'learnt' from various ustads and sant jis there.

'LOLLLLLL an old geezer wanting to be the Guru HAHAHAAHAHAAHA, thats the funniest thing I've heard in my life!

Love how you guys act all humble when definding your "religion" and say oh, but look we preserve Guru Ji's maryada, whats the problem with sikhs learning? you won't have any defence any more? ahh boohoo.'

Curse all you want I dont mind, im not going to even make a reply to that.

The old phrase: 'Quality over Quantity' is out the window with the Raj Academy Gurmat Sangeet Raagi maker machine, plus now you get a degree!

'May be you should share some of the knowledge that Baba Jagjit Singh possesses instead of hogging it all in the fear that a small facist minority may mock your Guru. '

If you want the information there are many books out on the Indian Market and there are many Ustaads who are Namdhari and will teach you like Ranbir and Ustad Surjit Singh.

I was thinking, if my username wasn't Kooka and it was 'John Boy' you wouldn't have chucked up such a fusss! But there we go, prejudices lie in all including myself!

&

"If you want the information there are many books out on the Indian Market and there are many Ustaads who are Namdhari and will teach you like Ranbir and Ustad Surjit Singh."

And who do you think Ranbir Singh and Ustaad Surjit Singh Ji work for?

Raj Academy you nitwit!

Judging by your stupid stereotypical ignorant comments, I can only assume you are spotty teen who thinks he can judge someone he clearly knows nothing about based on some b******t he heard form his elder brother and his mates.

If you save up your pocket money for a few weeks and bother to buy a CD before commenting on it, you will learn that it is an educational tool for those serious about learning kirtan - complete with information booklets. For your information, this isn't top of the pops, raag kirtan CDs don't make much money, the amount of investment that goes into the research, quality of sound recording, paying professionals like USTAAD Surjit Singh Ji and Ranbhir Singh Ji, cover design, edicational promotional etc - covers the cost of the production if lucky, if anything else is left it is already earmarked to fund the next project.

Stop trying to impress people with your grapevine crap, and go and do something productive like naam simran or revising for GCSEs.

If you have something negative to say, wait a few years until you have a few hairs on your chest, and then learn how to act like a man and say it to the persons face - or at least do nindia without hiding behind and insulting a meaningful name.

I honestly dont know where your getting your information from, bring me the proof that Prof., Surinder Singh has given his students homework to sell his CD's because im part of the Academy and ive never seen it as part of the agenda.

Firstly look at yourself, what exactly are you doing to contribute to this dying tradition? Prof. has promoted Gurmat Sangeet to an international level, and has made it recognisable as something that is imperative in Sikh religious practice and culture.

Miind you when something good is happening people will always try and bring it down through jealousy and envy, kooka your part of the same sad crew that has nothing better to do than to bring down precvious gems because you are not even near their level.

Before you go on saying that there are Namdhari ustaads out there who are better, why arent they advocating the vidiya on an international level, setting up schools in places where it isnt easy to obtain the vidiya (i.e. international scale) where it can be a medium to draw people into sikhi.

What Prof. Surinder Singh has done no one has or could have done, he has brought Gurmat Sangeet into the limelight and brought it to an International and Academic level, where sikhs learning it dont just benifit spiritually but benifit living in the world wise too.

Grow Up kooka, i know you have your differences with Prof. if youve got a problem say it to his face instead of throwing your toys out your pram like a baby. Grow up!

Yes, learn about Gurmat Sangeet in a week.

Genius.

May be you can then teach everyone here, save us wasting 3 years on a degree or even worse 20 years under a corrupted gharana or gur-shishya set up.

If that doesn't work, then we can always resort to vaaja and bollywood, as it's only the pyaar for kirtan that matters, and not pyaar for kirtan maryada.

Professor does not shun any questions, in fact he is the exact opposite, he posses questions - which many famous people have shunned. If you or your nindak sangat have anything to discuss, I will personally arrange a meeting, PM me.

As in get all the old books out and get quotes out. We shall see what happens.

'Professor does not shun any questions, in fact he is the exact opposite, he posses questions'

oh is that right? What happened in the midlands, im guessing Channel Punjab were recording an act of him shunning various ragis of the 'mainstream sikh panth' oh but that doesnt count does it. Im telling you give me till next Friday and I will have topped up my knowledge on Gurmat Sangeet and I will have a peaceful and successful debate with you!
