What Do You Listen To?

WJKK! WJKF!

What do you listen to for inspiration to get to the gym and to motivate you once in the gym?

I was listening to Katha about the life of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and that was great, but it's finished now.

If morning session, Asa di Vaar is made for inspiration, hope, courage, determination - making the impossible possible - it is the Lions spiritual breakfast. This is why Sardar Jassa Singh himself used to sing Asa di Vaar everymorning to Dal Panth - to infuse shakti in them to fight another day. Morning, I also use Jaap Sahib - its format is perfect for a regimented routine - and leaves one thinking outside the box - which helps in combat.

Evening wise - what Matheen says (Ithihaas) - but in Dhadi Vaaran form - again, nothing beats Dhadi for creating adrenalin and energy - this is why 6th Master introduced this form of Shakti (dhadi) to the already existing Bhagti (kirtan).

I don't really do 'gym' training, but when I am exercising/practicing martial arts - I presently listen to Sukhmani Sahib... I know, its strange. But the type of training I do - I need to slow it right down and focus on technique and situational analysis, rather than needs high energy octane!

If it doesn't contradict ones maryada, Chandi di Vaar is also an excellent option, alongside many other Dasam baaniyan.

Have fun!

Try Balbir Singh Hazuri Ragi's Dasam Bani kirtan, in particular Maate Matang and Sada Jai Bhagauti.

Raag Asa has been used in Gurbani for a reason - I am simply giving a good example of its utilisation.

Asa is a Gurbani Vaar - its whole presentation as a hard hitting folk style vaar of hope is the reason why it has always formed the sung Khalsa NITNEM.

It depends on your taste Matheen Ji re which rendition you like!

I have found what I consider the perfect Asa ki Vaar - but I don't know who its by as I only have a partial recording as part of Rehraas Sahib! So you will have to do your own research here! I may do a post on this topic in the near future with good examples - watch this space.

Re Dhadi - http://www.dhadikavishr.com/ - is probably the best site.

Also, generally Bhai Nirmal Singhs kirtan is quite fast paced/energetic - generally all his albums are good to give energy - here is a good example:

http://www.keertan.org/andromeda.php?q=f&f=%2FRaagi+Keertan%2FBhai+Nirmal+Singh+Jee%2FJin+Prem+Kiyo

Also Bhai Avtar Dilbagh Singhs kirtan is highly energetic - probably more so than Bhai Nirmal Singh Jis!

Buy his albums - they are wicked!

last but not least - Bhai Baljeet and Bhai Gurmeet Singh Ji - their kirtan is also generally very high energy.

http://www.keertan.org/andromeda.php?q=f&f=/Raagi%20Keertan/Bhai%20Baljeet%20Singh%20Gurmeet%20Singh%20Jee

All top world class Raagis - bare in mind I have suggested the above for high energy activity - if one wishes to Bhagti - then its a different story!
