New Delhi: The Indian army has commissioned specially designed combat helmets for the country's Sikh soldiers. The helmets to be produced by Kanpur-based Global Defense and Homeland Security Company MKU will provide ballistic protection to the soldiers.

A Sikh soldier could wear the helmet without any difficulty under his turban in the line of duty.  So far, there were no helmets that suits the requirement of Sikh soldiers in India and across the world.

'Veer' Helmet

The company has named the helmet 'Veer' or Kavro SCH 111 T. The helmet is designed using smart design and techniques and gives unique ballistic protection.

The helmet's special shape allows it to be worn over the ‘cloth patka’ carried by Sikhs soldiers.

Special features

'Veer' provides Level III protection to the entire head of the soldier from ballistic threats and fragments.

"The helmet features the advanced ‘Reduced Helmet Trauma Technology’ which provides protection from secondary injuries to the skull due to resulting back face deformation in helmets due to high-velocity ballistic impact," said MKU Ltd on its website.

MACS compatible

The 'Veer' is fully compatible with MACS (Multi Accessory Connector System). It empowers the soldier to use the latest head-mounted sensors, cameras, torches, communication equipment and night vision devices in their theatre of operation.

Earlier, the Indian Army had placed an order for 1.59 lakh ballistic helmets for its soldiers from the same company MKU.
