In this Vadde Mahapurakh talk about the Nihang Singh Maryada. Whilst Baba Thakur Singh Ji said Taksalis were Nihangs since they came from Baba Deep Singh Ji, historically Sukha has been banned for Singhs learning Vidya. This is something that evening Nihang Singhs adhere to. Since Taksal is more Sadhu-like in nature they also abstain from meat. In Puratan Times not every Gursikhi ate meat and drank Shaheedi Deg. Before eating meat a lot of Shardavaan Gursikhs would do a complete Akhand Paath of Sri Dasam Guru Granth Sahib Ji, so that it wouldn’t affect their Avastha. Even today, Tarna Dal hardly do Jhatka and most of their Singhs are vegetarian. It’s just a personal preference. I think Giani Gurwinder Singh Ji Nangli has written more in their book, Tawarikh Nihang Singhan

What we should see is everyone adhering to disciplines that support their lifestyle, not trying to make it any sort of rule or judgement on others, especially contrary to history or Gurmat.

Sant Giani Hardeep Singh Ji Hazur Sahib Wale who was a Vidiarthi of Sant Kartar Singh Ji once disclosed in an interview that Mahapurkh would often do Parchar against Jhatka because of the very thin ling between Jhatka and Halal. Mahapurkh knew that if they did Katha in support of Jhatka then a lot of Sikhs would think that it is okay to eat Khulla Maas.

Jhatka is entitely different than Halal. Modern compassionate killing methods are based on Jhatka. One and done. No slow bleeding.
