A vicious sectarian conflict has gripped the small Indian state of Manipur for months.

While there have been tensions in the past between the majority Hindu Meitei community and minority Christian Kuki-Zomi tribe in the remote northwest of the country, it has escalated into bitter fighting since May.

Street protests erupted into armed violence over demands to extend official tribal status to the Meiteis, entitling them to benefits previously reserved for the Kukis.

The minority group argued this would bolster the already strong influence of the dominant community and lead to encroachment onto their land.

More than 140 people have so far been killed in the unrest and hundreds wounded, while there was outrage over video which showed two Kuki women being paraded naked and assaulted by Meitei men - with one allegedly gang raped.

Well, it’s not entirely Hindu Christian. The Meties are mostly Hindu but have some Christians amongst them. While the Kukis are entirely Christian.

We have occasions where kuki Christian’s burning Metie Christian churches. Rapes, murders, cleansing all around. Both communities are well armed and fierce.

Kukis  control the largest drug trade probably in mainland India. Money they use to set up warlords, drug routes and Christianize the entire region, supported by the Church. Just like in Punjab. Church increase equals drug increase.

The role of the BJP is hazy. They are close friends of the Christian Kukis and political allies.  Together they have created the greatest infrastructure push in modern Indian history.

The BJP CM Biren Singh is Metie. It’s unclear of his role. Some say he’s a drug cartel member himself that wants control. He’s made some massive drug hauls in the last 4-5 years

Not entirely about religion but more about ethnicity.
