It mentions taht Asian (read Indian) hair is one of the most valuable because its considered 'virgin hair' ie that which is not treated or styled in any way. I know that many indian grow and sell their hair especially to certain orthodox jewish sects in Israel. Got me thinking.....if hair is so valuable what if some yob walks up to you, pull out, not a knife or gun, but a pair of scissors and cuts off you long virgin hair? Doesn't matter if you wear a turban or not. I've seen a many sikh girls with looong, stunning virgin hair. Just think... we walk about wary if some buggers going to nick our wallet/handbag, mp3 player or mobile or even gold jewellery etc; which are only worth a few hundred pounds BUT what about our hair which are worth a few thousands????? Apart from the 'assault' aspect Would the courts look at stolen hair in the same way as stolen phone? Veggie food for thought, isn't it?

Anyone know of any social events in Birmingham where young sikhs can get together and socialise and meet new people - of both sexes? Anything but the rensabais, or political demo stuff. (I prefer only to listen to kirtan at rensabais and dont do sikh politics)

Is it not his expressed desire to be executed? If so why is this so. Could it be that he really wants to attain shahadat or is he just exasperated from the lack of support from the Guru Khalsa Panth over the last 17 odd years since he was convicted; and so has just given up on the people of Panjab? What would be the repercussions of his execution? Would there be a real sea tide change in PB or the Panth OR would the 1st of April be just another normal day with nothing more than a few front page reports in India? I'm not usually into SIkh/Pb/Indian politics, so dont really know about things until there is wall to wall coverage in our media; as is in this case. Thereon it has taken 17 years for this type of media coverage to take place for this person. So IMO I dont think this people are really too bothered and will very soon forget it all within a few days or weeks.

I cant answer your question directly, but there is a new documentry on BBC now: How God made the English. (maybe on iplayer later on) Very interesting take on finding out why the British or rather more accurately the English were able to achieve so much in their history. SImply put they had superiority complex based on the Bible and the the English are the new Chosen People! Dalsingh should find it interesting. Watching it now and I can see how such a mindset can help groups of people/society/cultural group move ahead in the world , including the Sikh nation.

The words may be simple - whether the Gurus or the authors, but actions are way harder. Anyway , Lets make it simple not simplistic. its got nothing to do with doubting. More a case of learning and having a more in depth knowledge.

Hi All I thought I'd write a brief introduction on a couple of books that I've read or come across on methodologies on doing Bhagti. These books are in Panjabi/Gurmukhi. Before that puts you off the style of these are very simple to understand. They are concise and to the point without rambling on and on about a particular point. Enough details are given for you to get on with the job, though you can, if you wish, read into certain subject matters from other books. 1. Keve'n Samadhi La Ke Brahamgiani Bane'ye Part 1 ('How to go into Samadhi and become a Brahamgiani') by Bibi Harjinder K. Sohal Very easy book to read. First half of the book is a JapJi Shaib steek, the second part is simran jugti. She has presented the ideas in a simple and easy to understand format. Explains 'how to' of doing simran, concentration, all the chakras the results of meditating on each chakra. Book is hard to put down once you start reading it. Background: she is in her 60+'s and lives in London (though may currently be in India now). She learned her knowledge when young from her father, who in turn learnt from and did seva of/with Baba Nidhaan Singh Ji of Hazoor Sahib fame. Part 2 should have come out now, or is due very soon. It will contain commentary on banis outside of SGGS. Eg Varaan of Bhai Gurdas, Pran Sangli etc.. I have only browsed through the following books: 2. Waheguru Naam Rasai'yen by Jathedar Iqbal Singh of Patna Sahib. ISBN 81-7601-767-1 Details on how to do Simran, practice sitting down in one asana for longer periods of time. Physical and psychological benefits of simran. How to calm the mind and control the thoughts. Comments on mantra of other beliefs, kundalini, dasam duar etc. Causes of mental or physical ailments. Well worth getting hold these books if you want to move ahead in doing bhagti and the ideas and benefits behind it. Easily available from CSJS in Amritsar.
