That's okay bro. Standard is the highest. Better a Sikh than anything else. No matter how far along. Let's hear it for Sikh identity.

so I know I got no replies here. Maybe it is a dumb question. However this is the stuff I got on CitySikhs Facebook. No where above I said Hindus are not included in being Punjabi. I just feel from my experience if I meet an Indian not from Punjab on the train, pretty soon we are speaking in English because there is no common language and not even our food and cultures are in alignment. However on the same train I meet a Punjabi of any background, including Pakistani, we can ( at least the older generation who don't speak Urdu / Hindi as first language) talk in Punjabi and culturally have a lot in common.

Also I am finding that the lack of education within people from India is lower than those outside about their own countries! I do believe even we are indoctrinated here and that anyone is and to seek the truth they have to watch the news etc not from their country but an outside one to know the truth.. Anyhow snippets below of some of the ridiculous conversation, allegedly linked to my question . People's ID's have been hidden intentionally by me, but you can find original conversation on CitySikhs facebook site.

where would you say Guru Gobind singh ji from?
what do you mean when you say Before we became part of India?
    Weird person
man you really need to brush up your history, you know who was Poras?
it became Punjab? It was always there. What are you really talking about? We are known for our geographical position than Religious and we always had this identity.
his is taking it in the wrong direction. Yes Porus ( real name Puna) was from Majha area of modern Punjab and yes Gobind Singh was not from Punjab, but from Patna, but his ancestry just like ours was Punjabi. Like we speak English in UK, he spoke Barj Bhasha ( Hindi as a language did not exist at the time).
so if you know that history, you know this region beyond Indus was always known as warriors. Entire Hinduism belongs to Punjab, all vedas were written on this land, majority of the Rishis were Punjabi including Gorakh Nath,

yes but Hindustan is a Mughal regional right down to Tamil Nadu area when they ruled . The term was a western / foreign term for anyone east of river Indus just like European is a term for anyone west of Turkey and Iraq and North of Africa. These are all still separate countries as per language Considering how I defined myself I would say Guru Gobind was Punjabi Heritage, Bihari by birth and being raised ( much like I am English ) initially Hindu by definition then Sikh by being raised in the Sikh community and then Modern Sikh (Khalsa ) created by himself . The issue I raised had nothing to do with the Gurus so why was it taken in that direction ? The issue was of modern India and it being a state in the way I described ing Porus was a famous Indian king, his real name was Purushotama. He belonged to PURU tribe mentioned in RIG VEDA, the Ancient books of India. Porus ruled the Punjab region and expanded his kingdom between the Jhelum River and Chenab River in the Indian Subcontinent. He was a legendary warrior and more war skills. He made the army most powerful with war skills. Even Alexander had also made difficulty to defeat Porus. His parents name didn’t know clearly. However, his son name also Porus.   you know the timing between both of these historical events?   Now what does any of the above have to do with my question?   I'd say it's up to the individual how they define their identity. How much of your identity (as described in detail above) would you say, has been influenced by the events in Panjab, in 1984? There seems to be a concerted effort to nullify aspects of our inherent Hindu identity, as a result of 1984. And to a degree, that's understandable, as justice hasn't been done. The perpetrators remain free, whilst the affected, have suffered and received no justice.   That's a fair point. If you note I did state I recognise I am Indian, just India..secondly you will have noted I included Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Christian within the definition of being Punjabi. So I am very aware of the Hindu and the Buddhist roots long before any of us became Muslim, Christian or Sikh.. It am defining myself by the two languages I know and the languages of those lands. So Yes English because I am raised in UK and educated in English. But Punjabi because I originate from the Indus Valley which is currently still referred in its western region as Punjab. If we go back to the time of the Reg Vida then like an esteemed poster, Ranvir, above has already mentioned, we came from the land of 7 rivers. so no I don't deny my Hindu / Buddhist past.  and to deal with your fair point, lack of proper international apology by Congress and the Gandhi family, fake investigations, and the current Right wing ( who this time happen to be SOME Hindu folks) extermists who vote for the current regime inciting hatred by using 1984 monikers on social media etc etc naturally colours my attitude towards India. Is that not understandable? I accept logically of a population of 1 billion Hindus, The RSS mob etc hopefully are not the whole population and no way in 1984 it was a massive part of the population ( If you read my Punjabi fiction you will find its a Hindu character that saves some Sikhs in Delhi 84) who killed Sikhs. But a silent non protesting majority...well that's how Hitler came to power and was able to kill the Jews. You may not see it if you are living in India, but unless Congress and Gandhi family resolve these historical issues and until the current regime doesnt come out of power this is how many Sikhs will feel. Going outside the Sikh aspect, it is logical for me to call myself British / English as I am from here as much as it is logical for a Punjabi Sikh to call themselves Indian, as they are raised there. That is all that means. But yes if you relook at my post the Punjabi Identity includes Hindus and Muslims as well. The language is the identifier in my view and had not the British annexed Punjab today there would be no Pakistan and Ranjit Singh's Punjab at least would have remained independent of modern India ( A British imperial construct) and secular...with Punjabi pride amongst Hindu, Sikh and Muslim Brethren. And my opinion is not fixed or necessarily correct which is why I asked everyone their view. The danger of city sikhs is it has become full of fake RSS trouble makers and no one knows who they are talking to... you or I could have fake Sikh IDs here for example. The admin certainly is prejudice to punjabi language posts     also I did say in my individual case...I am not speaking for other Punjabis or Sikhs...merely asking their views   Seems like online you dont know who you are talking to nor do they make sense   i am beginning to wonder if we should all not comment on social media and only have debates with people physically in front of us? Social Media perpetuates hate and misunderstanding??

Let me make clear where I am coming from
Based on Origin am I Indian? Yes
Based on Birth? No I am English and thus dual inheritor to both cultures
Based on Culture? No, I say Punjabi.
Now why do I distinguish my last answer?
    well bullet point wise:-
    - The reasons given above
    - A country essentially is established by Language. E,g All if Europe is Christian ( Like most of India is Hindu) but Spain, Greece, Russia and UK, their real cultures are based on their language and food etc. Religion is the final factor. So apply that logic to India and it is 25 separate countries that Invaders such as the Mughals and British made into India / Hindustan. Same with local Indian regional empires
    - Then based on my logic post 47 India and Pakistan are no more than still part of British Empire. My logic? The law is all in English. Hindi ( a British invented language) and English are used for ruling. How would we feel if we were in a court case an it was conducted in Arabic/ German etc? Same logic.  Language comes first.
    - Ok lets go on the word Hindustan. Enough said.
    - Following that, 1984
    - Literally what is happening now in India..look at all the hate posts on social media, asking for the killing of Sikhs, How different from 80s Congress or 1947?
    - So am I Indian? No, in my case I am A British / English Punjabi Sikh, my heritage is Punjab, shared with Punjabi speaking Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims and Christians / Atheists.  Language is key, the all else

    So agree or bitterly disagree?

As I've got older it's become increasingly difficult for me to categorise myself along any nationalistic lines. Although I'm uncomfortable with certain aspects of 'Panjabi culture' as practiced by some Sikhs (i.e. casteism, celebrating alcoholism, an excess of non-intellectual/non-spiritual folk songs etc. etc.), younger mixed race relatives have made me understand that I can't deny my Panjabiness. That being said, I don't see it as anything to write a song and dance about let alone start doing bhangra over....lol.
I spent most of my life in england, but it's acutely obvious that I'm not english (and they'll let you know from time to time, even more so these days). The indian thing is problematic for some of us who grew up through 1984 and what followed afterwards.
So I found having a primarily Sikh identity the best. Even if I'm very far from being a great Sikh.

"Shocked, Angered": Sikh Taxi Driver Reacts To His Assault At US Airport
According to the most recent FBI data, Sikhs remain in the top three most frequently targeted groups for religiously-motivated hate crimes and bias incidents across the US.
All IndiaPress Trust of IndiaUpdated: January 13, 2022 11:16 am IST
    New York:
An Indian-origin Sikh taxi driver - whose turban was knocked off and who was told "turbaned people, go back to your country" by an unidentified man in the US - says he is "shocked and angered" to be assaulted and that no one should experience such hate.
In a statement on January 3, community-based civil and human rights organisation The Sikh Coalition said that New York City resident Mr Singh was physically attacked and berated near his cab at JFK International Airport.
Mr Singh had parked his cab at the Terminal 4 taxi stand when another driver blocked his vehicle. When Mr Singh picked up a customer, he stepped out of his car to ask the other driver to move. The other driver attempted to hit Mr Singh with his own car door; he then began repeatedly punching Mr Singh in the head, chest, and arms, knocking off his turban, it said in a statement.
The other driver referred to Mr Singh as "turbaned people" and shouted at him to "go back to your country," according to the statement.
"I was shocked and angered to be assaulted for doing nothing but minding my own business. While working, no one should experience such hate. I am hopeful that the police can identify, arrest, and charge the person who attacked me so that I can move forward," the Sikh taxi driver, identified only as Mr Singh out of respect for his request for privacy, told The Sikh Coalition.
Mr Singh filed a report with the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) immediately after the incident. The Sikh Coalition said it is currently working to ensure that the report "paints an accurate picture of the attack given the language barrier during the initial conversations". The organisation's staff accompanied Mr Singh to a meeting with a detective to provide language assistance and legal support.
"We have every expectation that bias will be considered as a factor in this outrageous attack, given the evidence of what the other driver said and did to Mr Singh," said Amrith Kaur Aakre, Sikh Coalition Legal Director.
"The Sikh Coalition is appreciative of all who have stepped forward to support Mr Singh and called attention to his assault. As the investigation moves forward, we will work towards a just outcome that holds the attacker accountable for his actions, while also reiterating that the Sikh community remains an integral part of New York City," Ms Aakre said.
Navjot Pal Kaur had posted the 26-second video of the attack on January 4 on Twitter and it soon went viral.
Ms Kaur tweeted, "This video was taken by a bystander at John F Kennedy international Airport. I do not own the rights to this video. But I just wanted to highlight the fact that hatred continues to remain in our society and unfortunately I've seen Sikh cab drivers get assaulted again and again."
Simran Jeet Singh, author and Director for the Aspen Institute's Inclusive America Project, had tweeted: "Another Sikh cab driver assaulted. This one at JFK Airport in NYC. So upsetting to see. But it's crucial that we don't look away...What I am sure of is how painful it is to watch our fathers and elders get assaulted while they're just trying to live an honest life."
"For those who aren't Sikh, I can't put into words what it means to have your turban knocked off - or to see someone else's turban knocked off. It's visceral and gut-wrenching and just so disheartening to witness," Mr Singh tweeted.
India's Consulate General in New York had termed the assault on the Sikh taxi driver as "deeply disturbing" and said it had taken up the matter with the US authorities and urged them to investigate this violent incident.
The US State Department also said it was "deeply disturbed" by reports of the attack on the Sikh cab driver at JFK International Airport, captured on video.
"Our diversity makes the US stronger, & we condemn any form of hate-based violence," State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) had tweeted.
"We all have a responsibility to hold perpetrators of hate crimes accountable for their actions, no matter where such crimes occur," it added.
Mr Singh has retained the Sikh Coalition to provide free legal guidance as the investigation into his attacker moves forward.
The organisation said that out of respect for Mr Singh's "privacy (given that his turban was knocked off) and in accordance with his request that he not be publicly identified, the Sikh Coalition is not further sharing that footage at this time." It voiced concern that Sikhs in the United States continue to experience bias and hate-driven attacks on account of their visually identifiable articles of faith (including turbans) as well as perceptions about their country of origin.

According to the most recent FBI data, Sikhs remain in the top three most frequently targeted groups for religiously-motivated hate crimes and bias incidents nationwide.
1CommentsIn the Sikh Coalition's experience, taxi and rideshare drivers in particular are at a heightened risk of these kinds of violent attacks, it said.

NEWS London mayor calls for temporary visa scheme for construction workers

Sadiq Khan has called on the government to create a temporary visa scheme for construction workers to alleviate the” double impact” of the pandemic and Brexit on labour supply.
The mayor of London said a ‘coronavirus recovery visa’ is needed to help sectors struggling with labour shortages, including construction.

Khan said this should offer the right to work in the UK for at least 12 months and be tailored to specific sectors. Khan pointed to official figures showing the construction industry had 48,000 vacancies in August to October, the highest figure for 20 years.
Khan warned his plans to build more affordable housing will be jeopardised if labour shortages continue. Khan earlier this year published a plan for 52,000 homes to be built a year in London over 10 years.
He said: “The construction sector forms a key part of London’s Covid recovery plan. However, both our recovery and efforts to deliver the genuinely affordable homes Londoners desperately need could now be put at risk if there isn’t the skilled workforce available to build them”
The mayor’s call has been backed by bodies representing house builders and developing housing associations in London.
Brian Berry, chief executive of the Federation of Master Builders, said: “Long-term action to improve and encourage greater numbers into the UK’s skills system is necessary, but short-term solutions like emergency visas will be a real shot in the arm for an industry under pressure. “
Geeta Nanda, chair of the G15 group of housing associations and chief executive of Metropolitan Thames Valley said: “A temporary visa scheme would help us to keep building homes for Londoners now.
“Through our construction activity we are supporting many people on apprenticeships and other training programmes, and we fully support efforts to encourage more young people to pursue rewarding careers in construction.”

By SOLEN LE NET 15:37, Mon, Jan 10, 2022 | UPDATED: 16:13, Mon, Jan 10, 2022 4 Painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen are among some of the most widely prescribed in the world. Given the drugs' universality, they're widely deemed risk-free. At higher doses, however, the drug can give rise to potentially life-threatening complications. In one study published in the British Medical Journal, ibuprofen was linked to a threefold greater risk of stroke.

Ibuprofen on the other hand was associated with more than three times the risk of stroke.
What’s more, diclofenac almost tripled the risk, while etoricoxib and diclofenac were associated with around a fourfold increased risk of suffering death from cardiovascular causes.
A total of 554 heart attacks were recorded, and 377 strokes.
An accompanying editor from the departments of preventive medicine in Nashville Professor Wayne Ray, noted: “Naproxen seemed least harmful.

Three jailed after man fatally stabbed at Coventry garage
Published 1 day ago Share   Three men have been jailed for the killing of a 19-year-old who was stabbed on a garage forecourt.
Pavandeep Daudher suffered a fatal injury to his leg at the BP garage in Lockhurst Lane, Holbrooks, Coventry, on 31 March 2020.
Jason Cornwall, 35, Riley Kavanagh, 21, Kane McCarron, 19, and Ethan Lilley, aged 24, all from Coventry, were found guilty of his manslaughter.
Police said the attack was retaliation for an argument with a friend earlier.
West Midlands Police said Mr Daudher's friend, Zaakir Challoner, had been involved in an argument the day before and had a brick thrown at his car.
Lilley's home was then vandalised on the day of the attack, following which a text was sent from his phone to Mr Challoner which said: "One of your friends will end up in curtains."
Later that night Mr Challoner was at the BP garage when a group of masked men, armed with weapons, got out of a dark grey Ford Kuga on false plates.
Mr Daudher was attacked and knocked to the ground and left fatally wounded.
The men chased after Mr Challoner, 21, in the Kuga, ramming his car before smashing its windows with baseball bats.
Mr Challoner was then stabbed in the foot and robbed of his bag and jacket.
The Kuga, the force said, was later found burned out on grassland in Willenhall.
CCTV analysis and mobile phone records linked the four men to each other and showed they were in the vehicle on the day of the attack.
Lilley, Cornwall and McCarron were also convicted of robbery, with Kavanagh found not guilty of the charge.
McCarron was also convicted on a charge of violent disorder.
Cornwall, of Arundel Road, was jailed for 11 years, while Kavanagh, of Drake Street, was jailed for nine years and McCarron, of Portsea Close, for seven years.
Lilley, of Queen Isabels Avenue, will be sentenced on 31 January.
During a second connected trial also held in October, a fifth man, Callum Bowman, 30, of Humber Road, was found not guilty of manslaughter and robbery.
Two other defendants, Lucas Hutchinson and a second man, who can't be named for legal reasons, were convicted of assisting an offender after they helped destroy and dispose of the stolen Kuga used in the fatal attack.
Hutchinson, 19 of Strathmore Avenue in Stoke, Coventry, was also jailed for three years.
