From personal experience i think that under the gloss france is a deeply prejudiced society. Rather than accepting people can have differences they try and make everyone conform to the french establishments view of what a 'french' person should be. However not everyone can conform to being a white christian, no matter how integrated they become. Until the french govt tries to overcome the prejudices of 'white' france rather than just paying lip service to anti racism this problem will not go away. The french police are quite possibly the most racist police in europe (after greece), it is well known the having non - white skin means u will be asked for your papers all the time. You can only push people so far before they crack. Until the deep seated prejudices and xenophobia within french society is dealt with, and wealth distribution made fairer there will always be people ready to riot at any excuse. p.s. out of interest, a question to the canadians, how tolerant are the french areas of canada?

Also for any budding journalists at uni etc get involved in the media societies at your unis. I used to write for london student on current affairs and it was really good fun even though i never did follow the journalism career route. Its a way of getting more experience and builidng your portfolio. It was also a good stepping stone had i wished to go into the field later. Lets see some more sikh editors and producers! I mean real sikhs, not gurpreet bhatti part II.

The SAD does have an international wing which international sikhs may be able to use to influence SAD policy. With regards to religion i think the need for secularism was that many religions will restrict people who belong to another religion, thats why secularism was necessary for govt. There is a point of view that as sikhi does not prejudice ppl of other faiths there is not the same need to distance religion and politics.

hmmmmmm, how can i put this simply. hinduism isn't a race. it is a belief system. any race can adopt it. even indian isn't a race as far as i know, perhaps you mean dravidians etc.
