as well as many other things.  I noticed that when going into deep meditation/sunn, it logs as 'deep sleep' stage. Normally this stage comes after some time spent in REM and light sleep.  I was amazed to notice that at times of going into instant abyaas with seconds/minutes of rom rom; the sleep graph will display a sudden dip from awake stage--to--> deep sleep mode.   Now, on nights when i'm trying to go to sleep and do so by stopping vichaar with antarghat simran, it will also exhibit a rapid jump from awake--> deep sleep The other thing I found outstanding was that on these nights, my level of deep sleep is always way above the benchmark of  12-18%.

Hanji, I can understand. Sometimes I myself get confused if I was sleeping or meditating,😝, and that's just a machine. But the idea overall is that 'silence of mind' and that's the most difficult part of this game.

    Valuable tips.

Doing Simran and feeling tired is a good thing. There is a very fine line between drifting into sleep/dreamless sleep and sunn.   With practice, you will be able to recognize the difference.

@moorakh, I totally second what Sat1176 has explained above.  Whether you should think of sleep as a hindrance or not, is difficult to justify.

According to my own experience, I reckon that some of us may assume we are falling asleep, but in fact, we are rising into deeper states.   I'm no expert on sleep, but i can give a few pointers for you to look into....

    - If you drift off into dream state, then this is mostly Maya.  I'm referring to doing simran whilst sat up with back straight. Doing simran whilst lying down is something I could discuss in the future. For yourself, at this stage, i would pay attention to what happens exactly when you think you're falling asleep?

    1) You're head may droop forward, but if you're back and posture is giving way, then a) you are probably going into dream state-maya or b) you're prana flow isn't strong enough.

    OR

    2) if you are drifting and can maybe hear things in background, and not losing your asan, AND gurmantar is still going, ..then you are most likely going towards the dreamless void(eventually).  From what I remember, this stage was rather confusing because i was never sure if i were asleep or in deeper consciousness.  IMO, i'd say to continue going deeper into your simran if you are encountering this.   Just keep checking that your gurmantar was still going. The tricky part is that you'll only be able to confirm this once you are back and fully awake (disassociated).

This was the approach that i was using at the time, even though I wasn't sure, but It helped in progressing further.  I hope that gives you  better understanding. Really, you don't wanna overthink it too much either but just keep focus on gurmantar. If sleep comes, and you really feel inclined to get under the duvet, then do so. Otherwise, just continue and assess after the session.  Before hearing naam, you're mind will go through a number of intermediary stages. It's all about  'cleansing' the mann.

In time,  you  will learn that there is much more to sleep and how a gurmukh remains jagath 'an-din' (day-night). I'm not going to say too much on those topics or how it's possible, because it will probably be confusing.

Some can enter this stage directly, but some like me fall asleep and then enter this state. It is spontaneous and only happens with Waheguru's grace. You can't force it and it will happen when you least expect it. Mind in it's chatter must become small as a tiny piece of a mustard seed so it fits through a tiny hole so to speak to enter higher states. When this happens the mind awakens itself on the other side known as becoming "jagrath". Those steps I shared with you in the above post are a way to try and induce that state at night. Your body goes to sleep but mind tries to awaken, so you can spend the night in the higher states and doing bhagti whilst the body gets rest. Some will question and be sceptical of this form of night time bhagti, as it is not how it is normally preache

Now after about an year I am able to understand what you both meant here. I thank you again !🙏-that could only be have understood once one experience it. we have always perceived sunn as sleep but body sleeping and mind being awake, now I understood what you meant.

Also for someone who may be facing sleep during meditation don't worry! it's a part of the game. It overall rises your concious. Sleep strengthens our grounds to let waheguru ji come and reside on our hirda.its a slow process

    Lol! Yeah Thank you Babaji

And dasji I pity u. .. But rather I should pity ur wife instead cos she's not as lucky, she's got a husband who doesn't respect her for all she does for him and find her wishes a headache huh?

I enjoyed the jokes though and forwarded too...

  4. Even after being a woman, I don't mind being called a weaker sex, rather I accept that YES woman are weak, We are not that strong physically and don't find it an issue to repress my ego either.

I am happy being a woman, because being a woman makes it easy for me to Surrender, to be kind and subtle. To accept myself as a 'suhagan' of my 'kant' - Parmeshwar.

If we ponder upon the concepts of Gurbani, we notice that in our bani all human beings are considered as wives and Lord as husband so technically speaking SGGS ji is also a female Guru.

I am happy being 'weak' if the men around me treats me nicely, and respects me more.

You see - being a daughter I was more pampered than my brother, My brother took special care for my security when in crowd. My husband takes more responsibilities of the outside world than me, considering me tender and I love being the one who's more subtle, , more tender, I feel ' precious' to them. Big deal if I am not physically strong, I respect their manliness and accept them being 'superior 'in facing - the world' for me and giving me their 'shade. When I can easily relax and feel ' secure' in their presence.

I am not a 'house - sitting' ( homemaker though,), I work and am easily capable of earning my own living plus supporting my kids but I love the way my husband plans our finances and respect his intelligence on worldly matters.

I am proud that God has imparted me a capability of bearing children and  bringing them in this world, I am more blessed. More patient, sensitive and caring.

Don't you " men " out there ❤loves your daughters more- so why wouldn't my Guru Sahib?? I am 100 percent sure HE DOES

@Mooorakhbhen ji any suggestions or tips for veer ji on here

    SSA

Not really @Soulfinder veerji. I read his post a couple of days ago and knew I sail in the same boat but honestly I don't have any good solution for him.  He's surely at a better position than me,  being a man and Amritdhari .. so all I can say is that look veer there are people like me too who long for external Amrit, however aren't lucky enough to get it. So better be thankful than try to change your spouse!

As for me, I have all a worldly woman can ask for. A loving, caring husband ( who takes care of all my Materialistic needs plus cares for all kinds of physical needs too- it's just that he doesn't understand spirituality - he doesn't have that hunger, so he can't relate)  who provides for me. Two Lovely kids, non interfering in-laws, very caring parents, siblings.. I mean its just a perfect life otherwise.. tit bits here n there of course are handled and are necessary too.. it wasn't this perfect few years ago.. Dukh became Daaru and I thus became my Guru Sahib's child. I am progressing substantially. My waheguru is on my side! What else I can ask for.. 🙂🌹🌹💐🌼

I have accepted my husband's way of living as waheguru ji's hukam and love him that way! As for my bhukh -" I am sure Jin upaayi medni Seyi de adhaar".. aap rakhega! Aap karega! It's his job! I have stopped worrying. 🙂

  8. Yeah! Think about all the elements of 🌿🍃nature... .. Sunlight, water, fire, air  do u find them partial- don't they treat everyone equally

Yet we get what we 'are destined to- as per our karmas'

No blame game is thus 'Gursikhi' - it's our -Karmas-, but we can always ask from 'him' , he has every thing in his hands still  it's up to him to give or not. His will- he may give 10 or take 20 back. U will be blessed only if u accept- his will- unconditionally! That's LOVE.

And Jin Prem kiyo tin hi Prabhu Paayo. - keep loving n u may 'get him'
