ਰੂਪ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ got a reaction from GurjantGnostic in (Are) 95% of Sikhs living stupid lifestyle?
Problem is how average man defines Sikh. If Sikh is strictly as the Gurus and Khalsa see it, then maybe yes, Stupid applies. But applies to whom? Because if SIkh is defined as anyone regardless of mind and beliefs who is randomly born into a Sikh family, they may be better described only as Punjabis. In which case is it not the Panjabies who are living a stupid lifestyle? Maybe the issue is only AmritShakh should wear dastaars, and not the rest of us??

I wish it were that simple
I have tried to self publish in the west twice before. It failed
    Mainly because of:-
    1) Although western Punjabis love to listen to Daljit Dosanjh etc songs...they do not make the effort or have an interest in Punjabi language beyond entertainment. No one bothered buying a single book ( some of the folks above 50 years of age bought a handful of copies no more)
    2) Linked to above, even those interested in Sikhi can now learn about it via English. look how we are using English on this website.
    3) I bought ISBN numbers etc and then had to Pay Amazon etc monthly to put my books up. As no one was buying it was pointless. For example I put Sindbaad on with ISBN and even Waterstones website had to recognise it for that reason. However they and all the rest registered and advertised it as not available which is a lie. When I contacted them they said all books in the west come from recognised suppliers...and there is no one for Punjabi so it is always advertised as out of stock or not available
    4) Whether you like  or not only suppliers are from Punjab and they CHARGE the author for writing it and the reader for READING it. So its a vanity press self publishing system anyhow. At least in India it gets to the public.

By the way Singh Brothers are not the publsihers. It is Caliber and they have never updated their website as in India people do their buying via Whatapp or Facebook. That's why I gave just the name and number of the guy.

That being said I think it's very important to acknowledge and recognise exactly what (if anything) does propel anyone to start to explore and develop their Gurmukhi Panjabi language skills. And I'd say by far, the most potent and powerful engine of this can be easily identified as Sikhi or Sikh culture.
As time goes on and we are more and more realising how a determined and conscious effort was made after 'annexation' to disconnect and destroy the average Panjabi's language skills - it doesn't surprise me that hordes of apnay are in some state of intellectual deficit. We are just only now (as in literally the last decade or so) grasping the systemic destruction of indigenous Panjabi literary culture by the british. I wonder if once this becomes more commonly known, what reaction this may cause in the wider panth. Even more modern, and sophisticated explorations of Dasam Granth point at a strong indigenous emphasis on using and developing literary narratives, so we have home grown antecedents in this very area.
Also, when it comes to modern literature, aesthetics, style etc. are paramount. I mean even Dickens had top draw illustrators to punctuate his works with striking images, and that was all the way back then.

Yeah I don't know I wondered that. I also don't get it, If there are 700,000 Indian Punjabis ( Forget Lendha punjab for these purposes as they sit urdu) and 423K claim to speak Punjabi at home there should be thousands taking GCSE and hundreds taking A level and yes your point of the Punjabi schools makes it a mystery?
Maybe people lie that they speak Punjabi at home with kids?
