Malwe Da Sher got a reaction from Arsh1469 in Sikh scholars of the past Vs Sikh scholars of the present
No I dont think everyone can be expected to read them, thats not the issue. The issue is about 'Sikh Scholars' - who surely should have sound knowledge of our literature. The majority of so called 'Sikh Schoars' take it for granted that what is written in most texts is false. This has lead to majority of Sikhs following in the teachings of their scholars/leader (reformist seems a better word) and rejecting the vedas and the upanishads and other ancient sources of knowledge - making way for the 'Sikhism is a brand new religion unrelated to anything before' theory.

    from the frontpage of www.nihangsingh.org

    Traditional Mangalcharan:

I bow to the lotus feet of Sri Guru Nanak.
I meditate on Guru Angad who eradicates blemishes.
I enshrine Guru Amar Das within my heart.
I sing the praises of Sri Guru Ram Das.
Sri Guru Arjun destroys all my obstacles.
    Guru Hargobind enlightens my mind.
Salutations to Sri Guru Har Rai with folded hands.
And again the same to Guru Harkrishan.
Guru Tegh Bahadur is most gracious.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh is blissful.
I bow my head again and again.
I salute the master of the universe over and over.

    Within knowledge lays ambrosial nectar.
Loving devotion is the true jewel.
Sri Guru Granth Sahib is unfathomable
Upon whom I meditate with great love.

    My intellect is trivial.
How can it narrate your greatness?
I am not able to describe your glories.
You (God) must yourself take this discourse and purify it.

Would perhaps be best to use the full name of the bani which is Sansahar Sukhmana, so as to to confuse it with Sukhmani Sahib from Adi Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which has been recited by Bhai Jarnail Singh

Purpose of the Bani is to remove our Sansa - doubts, fears etc andn give the mind sukh all in order to aid in naam simran.

At the Boongah of the panj pyarai next to Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib, there are also handwritten Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Saroops prepared by Baba Daya Singh and Baba Dharam Singh. There is an illustration at the begining of the saroop that they did of maharaj.

Malwe Da Sher got a reaction from paapiman in Jhatka
In reply to some of Das's points:

The Panj Pyarai gave their heads physically in the first Amrit sanchar ceremony. Many Amrit sanchars took place afterwards and not once have I read that any Sikhs head was physically taken before taking amrit. Therefore, physically having your head cut off for an amrit sanchar is not tradition, it was a unique occurence and sacrafice by supreme souls to symbolically illustrate the surrenderence before the Guru.

Its not a case of trying to mimic what the Guru's done, Maharaj didnt go hunting on their own, they took Sikhs with them and encouraged them to hunt. Nihang Singhs still go hunting, however I think its illegal in India. Also there are some sakhis of Baba Mitt Singh relating to lions in the jungles around the Godavari River.

    Baba Lehna Singh
    Baba Karam Singh
    Baba Gurbax Singh
    Baba Giana Singh
    Dhundiya Vala Baba
    Baba Harbhajan Singh

Just a small list of Nihang Singhs who are stll today highly celebrated Brahmgianis, all of the past three decades or so. And of course the various mahapursh still within the dalpanths. Unfortunately Nihang Singhs havent exactly been the best at recording history of their mahapursh, stories of the mahapursh can only really be heard of within the dals they belonged or by local villagers. The ones mentioned all have their barsi's celebrated with full glory.

Malwe Da Sher got a reaction from dalsingh101 in Future Of Singh Sabha Movement?
....if the sikh groups before singh sabha had been perfect it would have never arisen.

Agreed. But that doesnt make Singh Sabha prefect. Singh Sabha cannot just be thought of as a movement (independence of Gurdwara etc) it was also a set of ideals, a philosophy, a set of theories etc.
