  1. the main reason i can think of is the lack of sikhi in our society.... today...99% of families looking for a suitable match for their child are looking for a well educated, wealthy, and high standing family and specify which caste... no mention of gursikhi... until that trend stops and they dont have guru jis blessings how do they hope for success?? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moderator: Edited to keep it under rules.
  2. with all due respect veer...what are you talking about.... sangat is composed of not only gursikhs....it may include in it all sorts of people from all walks of life if you fel that your sikhi doesnt progress in the sadh sangat then i dunno....but guru ji continually stresses the importance of sangat mil saadhhasa(n)gath bhaj kaeval naam Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. bin sa(n)gath saadhh n dhhraapeeaa bin naavai dhookh sa(n)thaap || still, without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he will not feel satisfied. Without the Name, all suffer in sorrow. sathasa(n)gath sathagur paaeeai ahinis sabadh salaahi ||1|| rehaao || The True Guru is found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Day and night, praise the Word of His Shabad. ||1||Pause|| bhaaee rae sukh saadhhasa(n)g paaeiaa || O Siblings of Destiny, peace is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. saadhhasa(n)gath hoe niramalaa katteeai jam kee faas || In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure, and the noose of death shall be cut away. the sadh sangat is physical presence?? the sadh sangat is not everywhere as the sangat is to be found this quote tells you poorai bhaag sathasa(n)gath lehai sathagur bhaettai jis aae || Through perfect good destiny, one finds the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and one comes to meet the True Guru. the sadh sangat is in the presence of your guru and any collection of ppl in the act of worship in the presence of your guru is sangat personally, and i respect your own view, but i feel that i get 100 times more from going to the gurdwara and doing my paath/seva than i get at doin at home...
  3. slightly off topic... but kaur actually means prince not princess....a common misconception...ne1 knw y?? i read on another board dat it was an attempt to give the kaurs more say in the courtroom...as princes were more respectd than princesses??? i dunno...mayb sum1 wid knwledge cn answa
  4. maybe u misunderstood me.... its essential to know about other religions...how they work and their beliefs.... but that does not give the rite to say your religion is rubbish because it says 'this or that'... I am in no way saying i have no problems with muslims....but i wont ever say anything is wrong with the religion simply because that is not the way our guru taught us.... no where did it say sikhi is the only religion.... understand sikhi....learn everything about sikhi first...then once you have conquered that then waste your time bothering with the problems of other religions... its a completely pointless exercise and anyone who suggests that condeming islam or any religion is a seva they are sorely mistaken....educating ppl about the faults of islam will not cause anyone to think that sikhi is better.... so i commend Khalsa souljah's efforts on his book, and wish all our youth took the same initiative....but i dont think that 'exposing islam' is the way of a singh (or kaur) ... im from london too!! i knw wat they r like here....but exposing them will do nothing but cause hatred..
  5. if u wana make comments like that then wats the point of sikh sangat who call wahurguru egotistical! sangat is only achieved with the congregation, with singhs and kaurs present....not in ur heart?? god is your heart yeh....but not the sangat!!
  6. veerji before attempting, could you please try n check the gurbani yourself as writing down the altered bani (meant or not ) is a beyadhbi...chall now you now, and im sure you didnt mean it. the shabad is "charan sharan GUR ik painda jaeh chal" It features in Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurdas Ji's Vaar's. this is the entire shabad charan saran gur eaek paiddaa jaae chala sath gur kott paiddaa aagae hoe laeth hai || eaek baar sathigur ma(n)thr simaran maathra simaran thaahi baara(n)baar gur haeth hai || bhaavanee bhagath bhaae kouddee agrabhaag raakhai thaahi gur sarab nidhhaan dhaan dhaeth hai || sathigur dhaeiaa nidhh mehimaa agaadhh bodhhi namo namo namo naeth naeth naeth hai
  7. a good friend of mine used 2 feel the same way... she said amrit wasnt necessary, its wat on the inside that counts... i just used 2 throw as many quotes from bani in regards to rehit at her...but it doesnt work...prbly cz i dnt knw the rites 1z...bt u can bash ppl as much as u want....realisation comes from inside not outside. wen i offered to find quotes from dasam granth or hukumnamas she dismissed them as not being guru... she says if its not written in guru granth sahib then it cant be necessary... its like no matter wat u say it doesnt go thru
  8. Quote: On the otherhand.. the rehat doesnt say women need to wear keski and usually women who wear it are just showing-off to much whereas you should be encouraging bibiah to wear it, saying how good it is, you go saying that all they doin is showing off?! the above quote was from jjj....not me...i disagreed? you must hav been mistaken SB veer
  9. yeh i agree they are inspirtaional... i dno.... by the way when you mentioned this.... that was 'jjj' veerji.....i was the one who really disagreed with that! i think keski waliah shud b highly respeced!
  10. During the summer of 1976 all newspapers in England published a news item under different headings. It dealt with the Sikhs' special relationship with God. It so happened that the summer was rather hot in England that year and there were no rains. When it did not rain for several days, people felt the shortage of water. In time the shortage of water became very acute. Situation of scarcity continued for some more days when the Meteorological Department predicted that there was absolutely no hope of any rains in the coming few days. Following this the Gurudwara at Southall decided to perform an Akhand Path(uninterrupted recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji). It was proclaimed with deep devotion that when the "ardas" would be offered on the completion of the "path" on the third day, it would rain with the blessings of God. Some people considered the proclamation a jest but many more had faith in the power of the Prayer. The "Akhand Path" started on schedule. The entire Sikh Sangat was rapt in prayers appealing to Waheguru that He fulfils their prayers. Each heart was full of devotion, faith and selfless desire. The "Akhand Path" concluded on the third day. The weather was quite clear. Baba Jagjit Singh, offered "Ardas" in such a humble tone that everybody's eyes became wet. It is said in the Sikh scriptures that true prayer of a devotee never goes unanswered. After the "Ardas" was performed the "Hukamnama" was taken from Siri Guru Granth Sahib which began with the words that the month of "Savan"[rainy season] has come. Inside the hall the hukumnama was still being read when rain started pouring outside. Sikh slogans echoed in the air for fifteen minutes. Numerous people from T.V., newspaper and radio were witness to this. Some of the quotes from the press are as follows The Daily Express(Saturday, 28th August 1976) " The rain that had gone on vacation has returned on the summon of Sikhs. How wonderful the incessant downpour is! Excellent! Excellent!." The Guardian(Saturday 28th August 1976) Correspondent Grant Perry wrote under the heading--The Prayer of a Sikh religious leader is answered. "The umbrellas lying idle in London for the last six weeks were taken out when it started pouring incessantly in answer to the prayer made by the Sikhs." In News Agent, David Macmillan writes "In case of bringing rain, Sikhs have succeeded 100%." Such is the Power In The Prayer Of A Sikh.
  11. nah i read bhai rama singhs too...ye it was a gd read i had nuff respect for him... bt im talkin bout teh youth....i dnt wana mention names as dat not rite...but certain ppl going round telling their story sumtimes reeks of haumai... also by going round saying "i was tis but now look i changed myself to become a gursikh" could backfire...as the constant praise from ppl comes in...ppl forget that it was guru jis kirpa that got them this change and start to think it was their own work...they forget that it would take a second for guru ji to take his hand off your head and leave you to fight the world yourself.
  12. Vahegurooo Ji Ka Khalsa Vahegurooo ji ki fateh!!! sangat jio... one thing thats been on my mind for a long time has been how parchaar is done to the youth.... some ppl here consider that our youth today is brilliant, and that sikhi will come good under us (i.e caste, corruption)...i disagree...barely any youth in gurdwareh...sikhs are now famous for sharaab and bhangra....and i sense things are only getting worse as kaljug progresses round the u.k, quite a few groups have come up over the past few years which are preaching sikhi... the problem is....the only thing people seem to hear is " i used to drink, i used to do this/that with girls, i took every drug in the book etc etc.... but look at me now...these manmukh to gurmukh stories " these were once inspiring but now all it seems to be is people on an ego trip....alot of people i have talked to get the impression that having heard these 'manmukh to gurmukh' people talk, its asif your sikhi isnt real unless you were a screw up before....also they seem to be given a higher pedastal by the youth because of it.. not enough is being done for the people who are singhs/kaurs by appearnce...maybe its that poeple think that we dont need 2 worry about them because they are already on the path...but the amount of singhs and kaurs cutting their hair and taking steps back in sikhi is growing... i know that sum ppl may get inspired by these turn around tales....but i dont think anything is as inspiring as our rich history and tales of bravery etc... maybe im wrong here but i think that although recruiting more people into sikhi is very important....i also feel that more effort needs to be done in getting those kids who are just 'sikh in appearance' to feel more participated...as im starting to think that we are neglecting them. this is a discussion so if u disagree dnt get all vexed...just chill n state ur thorts...
  13. y do sikhs give special emphasis to darbar sahib??ive always wondered this...shudnt all gurdwareh be given the same respect... whereas we only talk about doing ishnaan on durbaar sahib in ardaas? n also ideal singh.... a 'gurdwara in our hearts' wouldnt have the sangat, which is really important.
  14. lol yeh bt mate to do wat?? to walk round lookin scary?? an important thing is to carry a kirpan ( of a good length ) and be able to use it... n itd be pretty hard to walk round with a tank, like u sed, and not get ne attention form the mameh!!
  15. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh!! instead of finding all the faults in islam and telling all sikhs about it so they wont be attracted to conversions.... why dont you spread the virtues that sikhi has to offer... after knowing what sikhi has to offer....who would want to convert?? so use your energy for better sewa...n thats for everyone... stop looking for the badpoints of jesus (in the other thread) or islam in this thread...but spread the gunn of sikhi!! waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh!!
  16. wat do nihung women wear?? is there such thing?? and do they wear keski?
  17. i jus wana apologise...i went abit harsh on u 'jjj' veerji... i need 2 practice wat i preach... maaf karna ji
  18. the same principle is used for akhand kirtani jatha the difference is they say it aloud... the gurmantar can only be administered by punj pyaeh, and therefore by having nonamritdharis in the sngat while swaas giraas simran was being done, it would reveal the gurmantar... my personal view, and i think the akj also believe this is that a sikh benefits much more form sangat doing simran along side him, as he is listening to waheguru from others... so if there are 20 singhs/singhnia doing simran the effect of simran is multiplied that many times..hopefully someone with more gyaan on this matter could confirm this??
  19. sori... your rite...i do go off a bit and blow off... its called haumai init!! findin it missions to control... neway bentee naal maaf karna... wahguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  20. wat a stupid stupid thing to say!!! whereas you should be encouraging bibiah to wear it, saying how good it is, you go saying that all they doin is showing off?! does no1 else hav a prblm wid dat?!
  21. with regards to narsingha...theres not reliable factual evidence for everything... sumtimes i think wen ppl get too caught up in the facts written by scholars they lose summin more imprtant...faith. that nt sayin u dnt hav faith...im talkin generally... but ive read sources that say it was goats...ive read sources that say it was actually bringing them bak... im nt a researcher and definately not any sort of authority but in my heart i dont think guru ji would slaughter goats just to trick a crowd... i dunno wat u believe with regards to it but i hope ud like to share it along with sources that you have
  22. exactly....what will a piece of taagah show for your commitment/protection of your phen... did you ever hear of any of the guru ji's tying rakhri?!?
