getting furious, he raided him. ਭੇਦ ਸੁਨ੍ਯੋ ਇਨ ਹੂੰ ਲਰਬੈ ਕਹ ਸੈਨ ਜਿਤੋ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੇ ਸੁ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥ He came to know as well and whatever small army he had, he collected. ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਭੇਰ ਬਜਾਇ ਰਿਸਾਇ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਦਲ ਜੋਰਿ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਨਚਾਯੋ ॥ Beating the drums he commenced his assault and, after assigning his army, he danced his horse. ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਧਾਰ ਹਜਾਰ ਮਨੋ ਜਲ ਰਾਸਿ ਕੈ ਭੇਟਨ ਧਾਯੋ ॥੫॥ It looked like the tributaries in thousands running to meet the River Brahamputra.(5) ਚੌਪਈ ॥ Chaupaee ਉਮਡੇ ਅਮਿਤ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਦੁਹਿ ਦਿਸਿ ॥ ਛਾਡਤ ਬਾਨ ਤਾਨਿ ਧਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਿਸਿ ॥ From both sides braves swarmed and, in fury, shot the arrows. ਧੁਕਿ ਧੁਕਿ ਪਰੇ ਬੀਰ ਰਨ ਭਾਰੇ ॥ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਗਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਨ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੬॥ The dauntless ones would get up again but those cut half with swords were dead beat.(6) ਨਾਚਤ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਰਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਜੰਬੁਕ ਗੀਧ ਮਾਸੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਮਰੇ ਬਿਕਟ ਭਟ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਬਸੇ ਬਰੰਗਨਿਨ ਬਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੭॥ ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਬਾਨ ਬਰਛਿਨ ਭਏ ਲਰਤ ਸੂਰ ਸਮੁਹਾਇ ॥ ਝਟਪਟ ਕਟਿ ਛਿਤ ਪਰ ਗਿਰੇ ਬਸੈ ਦੇਵ ਪੁਰ ਜਾਇ ॥੮॥ ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥ ਦਾਰੁਨ ਲੋਹ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਕੌਨ ਬਿਯੋ ਜੁ ਤਹਾ ਠਹਰਾਵੈ ॥ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਦਾਤ ਰਥੀ ਰਥ ਬਾਰੁਨ ਜੂਝੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਤੇ ਕੌਨ ਗਨਾਵੈ ॥ ਭੀਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਨ ਸੈਥਿਨ ਸੂਲਨ ਚਕ੍ਰਨ ਕੌ ਚਿਤ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਲ੍ਯਾਵੈ ॥ ਕੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਟਿ ਖੇਤ ਮਰੇ ਭਟ ਸੋ ਭਵ ਭੀਤਰ ਭੂਲਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੯॥ ਢਾਲ ਗਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਘ ਪਟਿਸ ਦਾਰੁਣ ਹਾਥ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲਨ ਕੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਬਰਛੀ ਜਮਧਾਰ ਛੁਰੀ ਤਰਵਾਰਿ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ਹਜਾਰ ਚਲੇ ਖਹਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਜਗ ਕੋ ਜਿਯਬੋ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਨਚਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਨ ਟਰੇ ਭਟ ਰੋਸ ਭਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਬੈਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਹਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੦॥ ਬੀਰ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਦਿਸ ਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਮੁਖ ਊਪਰ ਢਾਲਨ ਕੋ ਧਰਿ ਜੂਟੇ ॥ (The Poet) Siam says, the braves from both sides fought defending themselves with the shields, ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਧਰੇ ਮਠਸਾਨ ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਜੁਆਨਨ ਕੇ ਰਨ ਛੂਟੇ ॥ The arrows shot out of bows eliminated many young-men from the fights (they died). ਰਾਜ ਮਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾਜ ਗਿਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੂਝੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਰਥੀ ਰਥ ਟੂਟੇ ॥ Somewhere, the chiefs were lying (dead), and somewhere the crowns and chariots were scattered. ਪੌਨ ਸਮਾਨ ਬਹੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਸਭੈ ਦਲ ਬਾਦਲ ਸੇ ਚਲਿ ਫੂਟੇ ॥੧੧॥ Like the wind some braves were shaking and they were staggering like the clouds.(11) ਬਾਧਿ ਕਤਾਰਿਨ ਕੌ ਉਮਡੇ ਭਟ ਚਕ੍ਰਨ ਚੋਟ ਤੁਫੰਗਨ ਕੀ ਸ੍ਯੋਂ ॥ ਤੀਰਨ ਸੌ ਬਰ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਚੀਰ ਪਟੀਰ ਮਨੋ ਬਰਮਾ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ॥ With swords in their hands, they came forward like the shots and the spinners. ਮੂੰਡਨ ਤੇ ਪਗ ਤੇ ਕਟਿ ਤੇ ਕਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਇਲ ਸੇ ਇਯੋਂ ॥ The chests of the intrepid were torn apart like the cutting of wood logs by the saws. ਜੋਰਿ ਬਡੋ ਦਲੁ ਤੋਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਖਲ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਏ ਅਰਿ ਭੀਤਨ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ॥੧੨॥ The valiant ones were cut from the heads, feet and waist and they fell like the elephants fall in the sea.(12) ਚੌਪਈ ॥ Chaupaee ਐਸੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੀਤਤ ਰਨ ਭਯੋ ॥ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਧਾਮ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਲਯੋ ॥ The great soldier, after winning the war, marched to his house. ਤਉਨੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਭੇਦ ਸੁਨੈ ਪਾਯੋ ॥ ਰਨ ਕੌ ਜੀਤਿ ਰੁਪੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੩॥ Then the news reached the woman that Raja Roopeshwar had won and was coming back.(13) ਆਛੇ ਅਰੁਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਤਨ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਹਾਥ ਨਰਿਏਰ ਉਛਾਰੇ ॥ On the route, the Raja was to come back, she had erected a death-pyre, ਹੁਤੋ ਦਰਬ ਸੋ ਸਕਲ ਲੁਟਾਯੋ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਸਤੀ ਕੌ ਭੇਖ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥੧੪॥ And she had gone there with new red clothes on to become a Sati(14) ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗ ਰਾਜ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਆਯੋ ॥ ਤਹੀ ਆਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚਿਤਹਿ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥ (to immolate herself in case Raja was dead). ਤਬ ਲੌ ਰਾਇ ਆਇ ਹੀ ਗਯੋ ॥ ਹੇਰਤ ਤਵਨ ਸਤੀ ਕੌ ਭਯੋ ॥੧੫॥ When Raja passed that way, he observed the Sati.(15) ਰਾਇ ਬਿਹਸਿ ਤਿਹ ਓਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥ ਨਿਕਟ ਬੋਲਿ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਸੋਧ ਲੇਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਕੌਨ ਸਤੀ ਹ੍ਵੈਬੈ ਕਹ ਆਈ ॥੧੬॥ ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ Dohira ਸੁਨਤ ਰਾਵ ਕੋ ਦੂਤ ਬਚ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂਚ੍ਯੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ On Raja’s order his emissary approached the place, ਸਕਲ ਸਤੀ ਕੋ ਭੇਦ ਲੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੧੭॥ And brought the news of the secret desire of the Sati.(17) ਚੌਪਈ ॥ Chaupaee ਯੌ ਸੁਨ ਬਚਨ ਰੀਝਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥ ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥ Hearing this Raja was delighted and praised her vehemently, ਹਮ ਯਾ ਸੋ ਕਛੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਗੀ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਹੇਤ ਦੇਨ ਜਿਯ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧੮॥ ‘I did not love her at all but she was going to sacrifice herself for me.(18) ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਮੈ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਚੀਨੋ ॥ ਅਬ ਲੌ ਬ੍ਯਾਹ ਨ ਯਾ ਸੋ ਕੀਨੋ ॥ ‘I should be ashamed of myselfthat I did not acquiesce the secret. ਜਿਨ ਨਾਰਿਨ ਸੌ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਸਮੈ ਕਾਮ ਨਹਿ ਆਈ ॥੧੯॥ ‘Not even from the women I loved, came to wish me success.(19) ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਅਬੈ ਬਿਯਾਹੂੰ ॥ ਤਨ ਲਗਿ ਯਾ ਸੋ ਨੇਹ ਨਿਬਾਹੂੰ ॥ ‘Now, I will marry her immediately and spend whole life wit her. ਬਰਤਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਉਬਾਰੋ ॥ ਮੋ ਸੋ ਜਰੀ ਨ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਜਾਰੋ ॥੨੦॥ ‘I will save her from immolating in the fire, rather she is already burnt in fire of love for me.’(20) ਚਿਤਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਸਤੀ ਜਗਾਈ ॥ ਬਿਰਹਾਨਲ ਸੋਈ ਠਹਿਰਾਈ ॥ The pyre the Sati had built, he thought it to be the pyre of separation. ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਭਾਵਰੈ ਦੀਨੀ ॥ ਰਾਂਕ ਹੁਤੀ ਰਾਨੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੨੧॥ He circumambulated three times through all the four corners and honoured her as his Rani.(21) ਏਹੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਯੋ ॥ ਸਭ ਰਾਨਿਨ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਾਯੋ ॥ After observing this incident, he relinquished all the other Ranis. Urvasi then proceeds towards to Prabhavati's Kingdom where her son is now King. Prabhavati feels happy that the restrictions on her being married to Punnu are now lifted and she feels she can live life as she desires. She feels happy to be a widow. However meeting Urvashi, who calls himself "Mohan" she falls for him completely. Mohan does not accept her advances as HER home, but instead says she must travel to HIS home. Prabhavati does as such, like a fly flying straight into a spider's web. This is reinforcing what Urvashi told Dharam Raj that "their lives are in your hands." There Mohan kills her with poison to take revenge for Punnu. These were the main aspects that stood out for me. That people who are weak in dharam are easier to trap and kill than those who are strong. That Mohan didn't kill Prabhavati at her place but instead let her fall into his trap at his place.
