  1. oh snap, didnt know we had an intro thread. chalo only a few weeks late I am Damanjit "Laadli Fauj" Singh, from California interests are: soccer, gatkashastarvidiyamartialarts(whatever the hell you wanna call it), shastars, tanti saaj, classical kirtan, my beautiful dilruba Jahan Kaur, tabla

  3. thank god im khalistani hahaha but yeah, would punjabis/north indians fall in with the rest of indians? we're of caucasian/aryan descent if i'm not mistaken, so how does that factor in? i remember back in middle school this kid asked me, in all seriousness, if it was against our religion to work out/exercise as every elder punjabi he'd ever seen was fat

  7. Hahaha, shaheediyan loves his raag asa, eh Bhai Balbir Singh is good, or any raagi that knows his stuff Dr Gurnam Singh, Bhai Avtar Singh, Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shaant, Bhai Samund Singh Bhai Santa Singh, Bhai Prithipal Singh, etcetc any gurbani ucharan is good, i like listening to akal ustat a lot of the time night time, raag malhaar and malkauns are awesome bhai balbir singh's Sada jai Bhagauti rendered in raag malkauns is simply amazing. night time work outs, or pulling all nighters studying/doing homework immortal technique
  8. yeah i'd under normal circumstances buy from shaheediyan's site, but im buying this for my birthday, therefore im allowed to kharch a bit of extra out dad's pocket so unless u absolutely forbid me from buying offa himalayan imports, i think il stick with that in the future i'll probably end up buying more often from khukriblades, seein how they're a lot more nicely priced. as for learning proper technique, not much of n outlet for that here in cali, no shastar vidiya ustads as of yet, just the gatka akhara. i'm considering taking lessons in some south eastern martial art though, maybe eskrima/kali or some other southeast asian art, i'll do my research and take advice from you guys b4 jumpin onto anything
  9. yup. ima buy from that other site, seems more legit, himalayan imports
  10. http://www.khukuriblades.com/kukri_making/ check out step one truck springs? i guess it hasta be quality loha to be fit for massive trucks
  11. a majh is a water buffalo, not a cow

  14. http://yhst-7333098713883.stores.yahoo.net/20inchsirupati.html that one caught my eye (my birthday's comin up soon, so i started looking immediately ) any comments? is it worth it? Kaljug said they make some good stuff, so yeah hopefully it is any other suggestions?
  15. could someone spell out khukri in punjabi for me? i've seen it written a gajillion different ways in english lol, so i feel kinda retarded about the pronunciation
  16. haha as for truck springs, i remember when we got some new shastar for our gatka akhara, it was big deal cuz they were apparentky "kamani loha". i later asked my dad what kamaani loha was hahaha. truck springs/shock absorber things. the shastar were nicely made and whatnot still, i wont verify their quality or anything as my shastar gian is nothing compared to most of the frequent posters on this site. but yeah its true, even a lot of the normal sri sahibs and karhe are made from scrap metal and whatnot. i find it disgustingly disturbing how we as a nation simply refuse to keep our traditions alive, be it in the architectural genius of our gurus from fortresses to bazaars being, or countless works of art, being destryoed by "kaar seva" babay, or the refusal to maintain and keep in high respect within the mainstream panth, traditions such as santhiyaa shastar vidiyaa gurmat sangeet/raag vidiyaa and lohaari.
  17. thanks for all the info guys! ima definitely look into learning first hand at least the basics from a blacksmith, and movefrom there keep posting all the gian you've got tho, helps a lot
  18. hehe sick. i might hit up the UK next summer, be sure to get me acquainted with them rakba/patiala lohaars sounds good. mann i just went to india in june, can't believe i didnt think of it then i remember baba joginder singh ji mentioning that Bidhi Chand Dal has some reallly good shastarmakers as well aglee vaari sehi
  19. praane same vich, when maharaj was in dehdhaari saroop, they would touch any gifts, and langar, from sangat as a form of blessing as well as acceptance since maharaj often told his sikhs that shastar are guru saroop, we do bhog to langar today for the same reason. its not us doing anything, but maharaj themself blessing it
  20. maybe start by learning basics from a blacksmith, possibly as an extra class in uni possibly apne shastar makers in punjab too? like baldev singh nihangsingh
  21. yeah, it'd probably be hard to get them to teach me, but hell, no hurt in trying haha
