  1. Possibly another reason he spoke against dehdhari gurus was because so many of them claimed to be the rightful successor gurus (in lieu of Guru Granth Sahib ji) of the first 10 Sikh gurus...
  2. http://www.cracked.com/article_18817_5-reasons-future-will-be-ruled-by-b.s..html Fascinating article discussing how society will increasingly depend upon enforced artificial scarcity to maintain standards of living and even cohesiveness. Damn interesting.
  3. Interesting to note that Kashmiri militants who gave up the idea of sovereignty were allowed pardon for their crimes, while Khalistani militants got no such deal. I think India feels that they need to keep the squeeze on Sikhs. This is why the police 'arrests' of Sikhs have increased in recent years, why we hear of "militants with rdx" every now and then being arrested. A singh I know in India told me that police are picking up large numbers of youth. Those sikhs who protest, even the peaceful ones, are then later (perhaps a few days or weeks or whatever length of time) whisked away by police.
  4. people from a spiritually bereft society hunger for spirituality, a sense of connection with God and a real non-superficial connection with other people, and probably some restraint to the madness of liberalisation as well. christians mostly threw away their gunns in the mad dash for numbers... and Islam's parchar is heavy
  5. What about Ron Paul??? Doesn't he have a track record of following through on all his election promises (voting wise)?
  6. I would love to see evidence for your viewpoints on Gurmantr. correct me if I'm wrong, but what you are saying seems to be that the Gurmantr is the mantr that a true sadhu gives you directly?? And that the correct mantra to do jaap of is whatever the particular sadhu chooses??
  7. Are you trying to say, in your own roundabout way, that one needs to go to a pooran sant to get jugti?
  8. the idea of jhatka stores is based solely upon desire for taste and some sort of nostalgia. incredibly few sikhs even have a decent handle on their kaam, i don't think adding tamsic food (or super rajsic depending on your viewpoint) will help with that. And it won't add any warrior spirit to them either, despite deluded claims to the contrary.
  9. Great article. Agree with it totally with two exceptions: 1. Truth and reconciliation?? In Africa there was a great degree of anger at letting perpetrators of heinous crimes off the hook. There can be no reconciliation with the individual perpetrators of these crimes. There will either be (probable) reconciliation with India when perpetrators hang, or there will be festering resentment if they are allowed to remain free. 2. It is the nature of governments to be stingy with power sharing. Mental real estate is part and parcel of power sharing. The greater the adherence to dharm, the less mental real estate available for allegience to the government, or for indulgence in vikaars which allow for people to be more easily controlled and thus allow for the same end goal for the government. A modern secular India would be likely to see a total resurgence in Sikh faith as a threat, even without Khalistan. Guru Gobind Singh ji did say that the Khalsa would be like a fly in the eye of the rulers...
  10. Naam is in Gurmantr, Mool Mantr, and all other Gurbani. So doing paath is Naam simran. However, from what a gyani once told, Gurmantr abhyaas is like flight, the goal is to be in flight as much as possible. Gurbani is like the runway, we need it for safety. So both are necessary. The greater the flight, the longer the runway needed. However, I have also heard that many singhs have had ajaapa jaap of gurmantr begin through immense abhyaas of japji sahib or some other bani, which shows that both are Naam.
  11. how can you compare the method used by God to meditate on God with the method used by egoist people who are disconnected from Sat (meaning us, people still on teh path) to meditate on God?
  12. i believe this question is discussed in Se Kineheya http://rampurkhera.net/Publication.html
  13. your soul belongs to the guru. why would you be reborn into some other dharm? knowledge of past lives etc opens up automatically when it's time for it if we keep walking bhagti marga. what i was saying is that christians die, get reborn in heaven, use their punns up, then get reborn on earth. accumulate spiritual merit again. die. get reborn in heaven. and so on. sikhs don't go to heaven. this is the express route to enlightenment. no time is wasted on distractions like heavens etc. we keep taking janam here on earth as we get greater phall for less time here.
  14. i recall reading from Atam Marg magazine that if we conduct ourselves well in life, our ancestors would help us. I don't remember who said it, perhaps Sant Waryam Singh ji. But there certainly are a lot of unknown/invisible influences on a Sikh's life other than the Guru. The energies of our environment, shaheed singhs, devtay, the kirpa of mahapurkhs... all these things have an effect on us. I'm not saying I believe or disbelieve in Shraadh, just that there are things out there that we don't know about.
  15. not moving the body can lead to deeper spiritual states i feel. however, i also do that sometimes b/c it feels nice and helps with concentration, especially when i'm too antsy to still properly still.
  16. at the risk of being extremely unpopular, i have heard that oral and anal sex are taboo for sikhs. this from a singh who learned it from a mahapurkh's updesh to him given before marriage. you may find information on this in sant jagjit singh ji's katha. interestingly enough, the dalai lama also mentioned this as a paap karam, and the bible considers it forbidden and both are considered sodomy.
  17. This website provides interesting insight into the man and his nature, from mughal records. http://www.aurangzeb.info/ Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ji's shaheedi
  18. d(>w<)b this. I don't think it's a good idea to view sex through a moralistic lens. We are not catholic, our inherent nature is not that of being worthless sinners. Sex is not bad. It's better to view such things in terms of positive or negative effects, as well as the karmic effects. whether something is a punn or a paap may be different from what society thinks is moral or immoral. masturbation is extremely unhealthy, doesn't have the energy exchange of sex. it also gives one bad karam and increases a person's overall kaam. We can move forward spiritually even while having regular relations with our spouse. I know a singh who has has 3rd eye open and he presumably has regular relations b/c he's only in his 30's. So, it's not a bar on spiritual advancement, but there is less fuel available to go forward so it is slower than maintaining celibacy. As for how often we can do it... I agree with Kaljug's comment that it is self limiting. I also recall Baba Nand Singh ji mentioning that once a week is a maximum as a guideline. Basically, try to limit that energy loss. But also, take care of your partner's needs too, to completely ignore your partner is not compassionate. The following technique can help in limiting loss in a healthy manner. Fyi, i've never tried any of this, but it seems logical and many internet comments show support of its benefits. http://www.reuniting.info/karezza_method_lloyd/what_is_karezza http://www.sacred-texts.com/sex/krz/index.htm http://www.luckymojo.com/tktechniques.html I think it's healthier to look at dharmic rules/norms regarding sex as tight guidelines with some (limited) room for movement rather than as hard and fast black and white rules. Could be wrong on that point though. btw, baba jagjit singh ji's katha on grihasti and bihangam marg is up on www.gurmatveechar.com. maybe someone could have a listen and let us know what he says.
  19. i think that there are entire planets which are heaven worlds, and others which are hell worlds. these exist in dharm khand. there are also heavens which are above dharm khand. I think the characteristic of something being a a heaven or a hell is that it is impermanent. One lives in heaven, and once the phall of their reward is used up, they reincarnate on a lower plane, such as Earth. The other characteristic is that heavens and hells are firmly within the chaurassi lakh joon. One who has attained mukti can escape the snares of heavens and hells. I don't recall which Gurbani tuks exactly back what I'm saying as I'm speaking from the understanding that I've developed over the years from Gurmat sources. Incidentally, this seems to be the same understanding of other eastern dharms such as buddh dharm and hindu matt. Sikhs don't go to heaven when we die. From hearing katha over the years I've learned that in heaven more bhagti is required to match the attainment of just a small time spent in bhagti on earth. We are continually sent to earth until freed from our shackles by Guru ji. As an interesting side note, in raj karega khalsa katha by sant hari singh ji randhawa wale, at around 45 minutes baba ji describes sant gurbachan singh ji's encounter with shaheed singhs such as Baba Deep Singh ji who reside in karam khand (due to having icha for further seva). But they are mukt, so I wouldn't describe this as heaven. so the concept of heaven and hell, imo, is concrete at some levels, and very subjective and mind based at other levels.
  20. No, my response is from what I learned from reading Gurbani, from sakhi of Guru Nanak Sahib ji's discussion with Dastagir, and discussion with abhyaasi sikhs. I think the dastagir sakhi is mentioned in Bhai Gurdass ji's vaars. Guru Nanak took the pir's son to see the various heavens and hells and brought back karah prashad as proof. This was in response to allegations of blasphemy as the Prophet had mentioned only seven heavens and seven hells, whereas Guru ji stated them to be an uncountable number in japji.
  21. the various hormones etc are material precursors for spiritual energy. using taoist terminology, this is called jing. jing transforms to chi (through bhagti). chi is like life energy. chi transforms to shen through bhagti. shen is light/emptiness. these various transformations occur on the path to enlightenment. if you lose your jing, ie if you ejaculte, you lose a lot of the transformed or partially transformed energy. it's like taking a big step back on the path. it's this sex energy which is the basic power for enlightenment, so it either goes down and out, or up and transforms us. so when jing is full, sex no longer bothers us, according to taoism. gurmat advocates/prefers marriage b/c of the necessity of procreation and because in kaljug, most people simply cannot follow bhramacharya. this is why many sants are older, b/c in the younger jeevan they lived in grihast. in older age kaam doesn't have as strong a pull on a person. to overcome kaam, you need ***exercise, fresh air, *****really careful attention to food***, abhyaas, repeated ardass, and meditation on guru ji's kurbani. remembering kurbani helps reign the mind in.
  22. the khands are different from heaven and hell. there are an uncountable number of heavens and hells. these are often in the forms of planets, some worlds are hell worlds, some are heaven. this can change with kamai and prachaar. right now, earth is more of a hell world. when khalsa raj gets established it will become a heaven world. i think that a lot of these worlds are in dharm khand. dharm khand is an immense immense region. there may be other heavens in the higher khands as well. it is also, simultaneously, a state of mind. if you do enough kamai, your life will be heaven.
  23. no doubt a secret govt exists in the usa with a nefarious agenda (see president kennedy's and truman's speeches), but i feel that conspiracy theories cause more harm then good to the message that you're trying to spread. if you base what you say on objective evidence, then people are more likely to believe and awaken. if you go all david icke on people, that turns people off and they are more likely to dismiss truth along with the falsehoods. this is why i'm a fan of gerald celente, a trends forecaster who avoids conspiracy theories and partisanship. he calls this 'political athiesm'
  24. ferfal.blogspot.com has excellent info on knives and on dealing with the law while living in unsavoury countries, such as argentina and the usa (in the near future).
  25. What can the sangat tell me about Anhata Chakra And The Heart-Lotus? How can it be opened? Is the opening of this chakra considered the attainment of atam gian, or does that arrive later? Can anyone point to me to deep explanations of these things in katha or books?
