  1. u asked me for proof regarding a certain famous Singh "dancing". Can I ask you for contemporary proof regarding Singhs having 5 kakaars as opposed to treh mudra? There's plenty more to say regarding this......(bit late at the moment I'm afraid)
  2. favourites by a mile are brazil, argentina......and england! i prefer brazil to argentina - brazil play with more flair whilst argentina seem to enjoy cheating a bit too much. Italy are a team of divers and, judging by what's going on in italy, a team of bribing cheats! england have the magic giraffe - ah yeah...step up mr crouch.
  3. I understand that, but that one line seemed to speak volumes about what you gained from my post which I found disappointing.
  4. do i really need to reply? I surprises that was all you managed to guage from my post. Fateh.
  5. didn't banda bahadur condemn onions as well as meat and bhang?
  6. Sarbloh Granth is meant to be vicious as well...can anyone here shed any light on that as well please?
  7. A Sikh forum will have serious sections - where gurmat vichaar can be done; and non-serious sections, where non-Sikhi related topics can be discussed. If we are to purge those things that are anti-Sikh then I suggest the first point of call should be the serious sections of this forum. More pertinent then 'lust' caused by bhangra music is the ego shown in those arguments where two people clash due to differing opinion. Furthermore, there are people on this forum who are at different stages in life. Some are very religious, and others less so. A forum needs to cater for all - if you can get people who know very little to join this forum because of (eg) the strength of its bhangra section, then based on another forum that I'm a member of, you will actually get those people to start looking at the more religious topics. This is something I have seen first hand on Sikhportal. If we're talking specifics, then there's one thing that the two of us will probably agree 100% on. In the bhangra industry today, there's too much emphasis on sex. The videos are just so poorly thought out - bunch of mates in a club and a girl in the middle pouting at the camera, lookin like a right moody cow. And the videos coming out of Punjab are SOOO much worse!
  8. well, there could be a million reasons why Alum Singh had that nickname. Unfortunately I don't know, and I only initially came to know of his name because of the contributions that his wife made to the Panth. However, your experience of uni Sikh Societies is a million miles away from what I experienced. Whereas I used real events as examples, you have hypothesised. Until BOSS took control in London, the Sikh Soc's there were thriving. I could write much more, and when I have more time I will try.
  9. I know it doesn't fit in the general theme of what's been said, but one of the prominent Singhs of the misl period was called Baba Alum Singh "Nachanwala" because of his fondness for dancing. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I have never done any dodgy business in a club with a girl even when the oppurtunity was there. True, there are people whose only purpose is to pull birds. True, there are people whose only purpose is to get hammered. But it is also true that there are people who go there simply for a good time. How can these people be doing something that is not honest, and how are these people having a negative impact on others. I knew plenty of Gursikhs who went clubbing.......and the funniest thing is that it was the best way of doing parchar of the Sikh Societies. Knock it if you want, but "non-religious" people actually came to do Waheguru Simran and Mool Mantar Simran days after talking to the Gursikhs in the club. *Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if my statement here was taken out of context by others. I can only state what my observations were at the time.
  10. Thanks Shaheediyan. I found one of your comments interesting - what effect does bhangra played by "Specialist n Truskool" in a club (seedy or otherwise) have on youth in Punjab? The factors involved with the apparent demise of Punjab youth are varied, and I would put money on the UK/USA clubbing scene having a minimal impact. I would hypothesise that it's more to do with boredom, and loss of faith in Sikh leaders then people like Tigerstyle/Specialist n Truskool etc.
  11. enlighten me, o learned one, where I have not acknowledged the One who created me through my simple observation that the clubs I had been to were, in general, of good hygiene. I've often found that the ones who are 'dirty' are those that have been suppressed in some way. Rather then tell me to "grow up", surely a wise man like yourself could have showed this manmukh (me) the error of his ways through pyar? Tsk, looks like my mind will forever remain filthy because I like bhangra music. Reminds me of the time when these Muslim fanatics were desperately tryin to convert my mate....apparently music is the source of all evil *shock*
  12. the nightclubs I go to aren't dirty. Not a speck of dust anywhere I tell you.
  13. surprised noone ever thought of this domain name!
  14. it's surprising how much of that massive article was addressed towards McLeod's personality and not his actual work.
  15. my take on it: too many Gurdwaray. less Gurdwaray = less of these malech ppl, but still the same number of sevaks who only have the interests of the sangat at heart. ps ringadingaling - the nihangs have been sorting stuff out, they just don't make a big scene out of it
  16. we're on abt women here though - the majority DON'T believe that it's mandatory for Amritdhari women to wear a dastaar.
  17. can't someone NOT wear a dastaar and be proud of being a Sikh?
  18. I remember reading about a mela where the Sikhs ran riot - it was in Sicques, Tigers or Thieves. Not sure if it was the Kubh Mela, and although the Sikhs were described as Nihangs, Niddar Singh thought that it was more likely that they were actually part of M. Ranjit Singh's army (on account that Nihang history does not mention this event)
  19. i saw something similar, except that it wasn't a massive tin of tomatoes, it was a small tin. and it wasn't a kokri, it was a tin opener. and i didn't see it, i did it coz my mom was makin sabji and she needed tomatoes.
  20. geeks. the lot of ya, do some work. ps i'm gonna have me ps2 in me bedroom now that i brought a samsung tft tv/monitor!
