Very interesting question singh.

Every handicapped person has special quality. They may be deaf singh immune from any communication of outer world, but all the fornas gathered in their antish karan/sub consciousness from million of lives of rebirth keep them pretty busy internally. I am not suggesting they have gyan of previous life just foornas coming from their antish karan in the dream or seeing things in every day life visually.

Words are not the only way in which we mentate, there are also forms of things. Naam and Roop, the roop or essence of a thing has a name imposed upon it. This can be a means of communaly recognising a certain form when the faculty for direct perception of form becomes atrophied. Words are an abstraction of reality and anyone who has studied a language such as Sanskrit will realise that modern english has become abstract to the point of absolute meaningless.

"Isn't it evolution?"

No i would say words and languages are tools like spades and hammers. They are imposed upon a form, so as to better manipulate it. So evolution in the spiritual sense of return is in a way opposed to words and languages. Which is why fire, uncontrolled becomes a destroyer, but when harnessed to send oblations towards heaven purifies and sanctifies language and speech. Language and words must be continually sacrificied so that they do not stray too far from the essence or true form of things. When they do they can burn uncontrollably(instead of transubstantiation we have consubstantiation) which is what is happening with language now it is consuming people or rather those heading towards their destruction are pulling language with them.

"A person was born deaf, has never heard anything and has no grasp of language. How does he think"

Observing most youth today, you certainly don't need the excuse of being born deaf to have absolutely no grasp of language...

A good friend of mine who runs his Graphic design business near London Bridge, always makes a point of accepting applications from Sikhs (no need to debate this, its his personal decision) as a way of doing his bit for the community and battling discrimination indirectly which is experienced by our people in certain business areas. Anyway, the final decision to give an interviewee a job is purely based on their ability. He got this CV from a Singh, which looked excellent on paper, great education, good experience etc. Looking forward to the interview he enthusiastically welcomed the young lad, who to his shock greeted him with 'you awight bruv'. He let it go. The interview started. Within 2 mins of the itnerview, he told me he had to hold his fury at this idiot who thought he was on an MTV interview, he said he had never felt like slapping so one so hard in all his life. Needless to say, the bufoon didn't get the job.

No Laadlifauj, its not evolution, its devolution, I guestimate, within 24 years, youth will have resorted to making Caveman type grunts etc.

As Sikhs of the Master Artist or all Artists, which should uphold the honour of our Gurus Royal court and attempt to learn, master and correctly present that which we learn and use in everyday life.

Sorry to go off topic, please resume.

There are many interesting theories of communication out there, at the moment. Interestingly enough a return to a more primordial 'caveman grunting' may be a more precise way of communicating than in the way we do now. An interesting development, caused by the ambigiousness of words used in English, is the relation of thoughts or thought-forms to actual words. The meaning of each word may be different for each individual, depending on internal experiences and associations linked to this word, which when evoked, triggers memories. So as the meaning of one and the same word may be different for seperate individuals, how can there be any possibility of communication between two such individuals? To be truly educated and literate, a different mode of communication between people is needed, so that people understand one another. An example is the technical language of some sciences which create a specific meaning, understandable to the specific scientific community, for certain words and terms in order to facilitate mutual understanding.

Imagine this scenario:

A person was born deaf, has never heard anything and has no grasp of language. How does he think?

Do you think in a particular language?

I don't think language is important to the thought process, most analysis is imo comparing and contrasting how you feel about different situations - anbhav if you will
