Here is the meaning of Satsangat:

Satguru meaning is perceived at different based on aspirant spiritual development stage- its

-sargun satguru- sri guru granth sahib ji- physical saroop,

-subtle form of Satguru- shabad guru in its resonance(dhun).

-gyan agam saroop of Satguru all prevading satguru exist in everyone (all in one, one in all)- Sat(eternal true) Guru (chaitanta- consciousness/awareness)

Sat Sangat or Sadh Sangat,

as far as I understand, it is, (we all) the sangat, the congregation; in the company of the Sadh, the Gurmukh, the Brahmagyani, in whom, the Primal Truth is present or manifested.

You see, the sangat by itself is in darkness, and even if more and more darkness gets together, this will not produce even a tiny spark so to say.

It is by being near, the Torch, the Fountain of Light(Gurmukh), where we get the benefit of coming out from darkness, to the realm of Light(Sach Khand).        

Not physical Light, but spiritual Light(Jot), which dispels, the braham, the maya, over our heads, and at the same time, brightens our way, our horizons, in order to reach and merge in Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

Sat Sangat, othey jaaniye, jithe iko Naam vakhaniye.

                            Sharing a beautiful explanation by a famous indian scholar and thinker named  Vinoba Bhave .

 Explaining the Meaning of 'Association'. He said:

"The rain drop from the sky, if it is caught in hands is pure enough for drinking.

If it falls in gutter, it's value drops so much that it can't be used for washing the feet.

If it falls on hot surface, it perishes.

If it falls on lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl.

And finally, if it falls on oyster, it becomes a pearl.

The drop is same, but it's existence & worth depends on with whom it associates."

 

* In a similar way, the jeevas in all of us are same, but it is our association with bad, good or best, which makes the difference.

In the company of bad, we become sinners.

In the company of good, we become angels.

But, it is only in the company of Gurmukhs, Sant Janas, that  we become as good as Wahiguru, by merging in Him, thus the best.

Sadh Sangat and Sat Sangat - Often I found surrounded by magnificent nature. Khudarat.  When there is no sikhs around.

In short, it simply means "associates of truth". Truth in this context is God.

As per the title of this thread which is about Satsangat, it could be well said, as we all know, Sat means Truth, and sangat means associtaion.

So what truth is being reffered here?

The Truth reffered here, is which we all know: Aad Sach, Jugad Sach, hae bhee Sach, nanak hosee bhee Sach.

Means, that Truth which is eternal that Truth which is changeless,  that Truth which is formless, beyond the parameters of time and space.

And so which is that Truth, that Truth is Satnam, which Sree guru Nanak Dev Maharaj mentions right from the begining of the Bani. This truth is also known as Waheguru, Amrit Bani, Anhad Bani, Shabad or Nam.

Then, who does the sangat with that truth or Sach?

Is it he body? 

No for the body is perishable, is limited, thus can not see nor perceive that subtle Truth, at most it can only repeat or sing His praises.

Then, is it the mind? 

No, for the mind is also perishable, and is the cause of our imprisonment in the Triloki mayavee creation of braham.

But yes, that much can be said, if initially we repeat His Name  with the mind, such is the power of Nam, that the mind gets subdued and defeated,  it looses the grip upon the soul, thus the soul, the jeev atma, is cleansed from all the karmas, and is freed forever from the cycle of births and deaths, only then, can the soul with the aid of shabad Guru, move ahead towards its Nijh Ghar of Sach Khand, and merge in Waheguru Akal Purukh.

This constant struggle and efforts of the soul to remain at all times in the devotion of Waheguru Akal Purukh through His chintan, His jaap, can be accounted as Satsangat, for that time being, we are away from the creation, and have Him, as Truth/Sach  as our anchor or support only.

So ultimately, it is our own true self as soul, which does the sangat of Waheguru, the supreme Truth,  through His Bhakti.

Another meaning, Daas learned from Katha is as follows:

ਸੰ + ਗਤਿ 

ਸੰ - Represents Ego

ਗਤਿ - Means Destruction

Therefore, one of the meanings of the above word is "Destruction of Ego".

ਸਤ + ਸੰਗਤਿ 

ਸਤ - represents Waheguru, who is in the form of Gurbani.

One of the meanings of the above word then becomes " Destruction of Ego through Gurbani".
