The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by Simranjit Singh Mann on Wednesday passed a resolution seeking a separate state of ‘Jat-land’ by increasing the size of Punjab. This came two days after Mann, a vocal seeker of a separate Sikh nation ‘Khalistan’, declared that Sikhs could not chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ (Hail, Mother India) as they “do not worship women in any form’.

The resolution also comes weeks after a violent agitation by Jats for job reservation in Haryana left at least 30 people dead.

During his party’s Hola Mohalla conference here, Mann also accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of “destroying the Panthic traditions”. In other resolutions passed on the occasion, the SAD (A) demanded that the Sikh detainees who had completed the “normal” length of life sentence be released.

“Badal got the Akal Takht to pardon Dera Sacha Sauda chief, forcing Sikh organisations to appoint new jathedars at Sarbat Khalsa,” Mann said. He stressed the need for voting out the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the next assembly elections and punishing those involved in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

Wasn't he tortured by the authorities in 1980's? Didn't he give up his position in Police force, due to the injustice being done to Sikhs?

Bhul chuk maaf

And he was elected in 1989 , his popularity was much more than Badal at that time , later on he just keep on sitting doing nothing as a result today his party can't even save the deposit.

What does he do after resigning ? Makes people agitate and organize protests, he is someone who has spoil the image of the Sikhs . Shivsena is his contributiona part of the local hindus feeling threatened and insecure want to have a rabid voice and although small in number a hindu separate group is formed unfortunately.

If you look at other states minorities like Sikhs , Jains or Buddhists they are all part of the mainstream parties be it congress or bjp since they dont feel threatened there. Was it not possible that local Hindus would have been absorbed into Sikh political parties and organizations and feel no need to stand separate .

During the times of Guru Sahib , in the Punjab do you hear of any group formed on the basis of identity ? No. Why ? They felt secure with the Khalsa
