Why is “gaslighting”, manipulating a person's memory, so disturbing?

 

 

Gaslighting is an insidious manipulation tactic many narcissists with great frequency utilize on their significant others (SOs).

The narcissist gaslights in order to make his or her victims………………………

••doubt their own judgement

••doubt their own perception

••doubt their own memory

The narcissist gaslights a victim; he then wants people to doubt the victim.

The narcissist gaslights the target, and thereafter he…………………..

••denies committing the abuse

••shames the victim

••discredits the victim

••lies about having committed the abuse

••acts enraged when called out for his or her unwarranted gaslighting attack

 

 

 

Signs A Significant Other (SO) Is Being Gaslighted

••the SO wonders if he or she is good enough

••the SO wonders if he or she is losing his or her mind

••the SO hesitates to discuss even benign topics

••the SO feels, misunderstood, hopeless, and helpless

••the SO perpetually feels as if the other shoe is about to drop

••the SO feels helpless, joyless, and dysphoric

••the SO is afraid to speak up and express how he or she feels.

••the SO no longer trusts his or her judgement

••the SO is confused and disoriented

••something is clearly off with the manner in which the narcissist is behaving; however, the SO can not put a finger on what it is about the narcissist that so off putting

••the SO feels on edge all the time.

••the SO starts entertaining the idea that he or she is too sensitive

••the SO feels as if he or she should apologize for one thing or another

••the SO feels as though he or she can not do anything right.

Lord...only Akal Purakh could make perfect whole entire messes. It blows my mind. At least I can remind myself it's Kalyug. It's hard enough knowing that, without knowing that it's mind bending... it's still mind bending.

This is really interesting, ties neuroscience/brain scanning to psychopathy (which is different to sociopathy). This psychologist 'accidently' discovered he has the same type of brain scan of the psychopaths he was studying:

What don't the abusers narcissists want you to know?

 

There are top 3 things a narcissist doesn’t want you to know:

1. They Need You.

The first thing is that the Narcissist knows that they need you more than you need them.

And they do not want you to realize how much better you are than them, but they gaslight and deceive you into thinking that it’s the other way around.

They want our light. They want our good energy. And they need our validation. We are the source of their Narcissistic Fuel.

And that is why they put in the effort to win us over. And if possible, make us dependent on them in some way so that we never leave them.

But all this is because they hate being alone. I know not everyone likes to be alone and they have their different reasons for that, but I am not talking about everyone else, I am only referring to Narcissists and why they specifically do not like being alone.

 

2. They Are Not Authentic.

The second thing the narcissist Does Not Want you to know is that they have no original thought, no original identity or self.

Narcissists work hard to get people to love, trust and believe in the fake self that they have created. But everything they present to the world is fake.

Their fakeness is in the way they dress, talk, move, etc. They steal other people’s identities, they mimic other people’s confidence.

They take ideas and phrases from books and people around them and regurgitate them.

Narcissists copy people. This is why they are drawn to people who are emotionally intelligent. It is so they can learn and imitate their interpersonal skills.

Everything about them that you fell in love with is a trait they mimicked or copied from someone else.

They do not want you to know that the person you fell in love with is not authentic.

They do not want you to realize that they are not as smart as they led you to believe.

 

3. They Cannot Love.

The third thing the Narcissist doesn’t want you to know is that they cannot truly love or respect anyone.

If people knew or realized this simple fact, they would not give the Narcissist the time of day.

Narcissists can only feign love and respect. There is no tender place for you in their heart, as they only know how to use and abuse you.

Narcissists value people only based on what they can get from them.

So, they will pretend to love and care to get what they want or make others think they are something they are not.

 

Narcissists are sad, miserable people whose lives are built on lies. They themselves cannot live with themselves, so why should we endure with them.

Something on rudeness.

Rudeness is an attribute that can be considered as a subset of someones character.

Rude people are usually weak, arrogant, and prideful people.

And the only way you can tell someone they are rude without being rude, is by avoiding them.

Just cut them off like a bad habit because pointing rudeness out of rude people is like putting more gas in a fire!
