Supposedly these gangs spend most of their day just walking/cycling around looking at people’s jewellery/brand of clothing/personal items. You know how brits can be good at gauging those sorts of things. When they see someone who has what they want they call the rest of the group and go for it. They make money by quantity not quality - they probably stole a couple of watches that day on top of dozens of phones and even other things like a car.
