I think it depends on the spirtual stage of the sikh. I am a beginner and failed many times, love doing simran slowly while listening with my ears and could do over 2000 in an hour. 3 Quote

The number seems high because dass is counting japs done while sitting, walking and other activities. So the mind will always be preoccupied with simran.
