One spiritually inebriated (mastna fakir) man came prostrated before Sant baba Jawala Singh Ji. Baba Jawala Singh showed due respect. Sant ji lifted him up by his arms with outmost humility and asked about himself. The fakir started wailing with emotional anguish. This endures about 5-7 minutes and Sant baba jawala singh asked him with deep sense of caring, “What is causing you these tears?’ Fakir responded, although he was in calm emotional state, his heart was in yearning and he went out, to explain that his murshid(spiritual guide) made him to do many penances and consequently, he had gained many spiritual powers but he had not attained any “Transcendental Blissâ€. One day, fakir stumbled across Guru Nanak’s gurbani while on his spiritual journey. He learned from that verse that one cannot attain peace unless they have Naam and meditated on Naam. He then humbly asked baba jawala singh ji, to bless him with Naam. Baba Jawala Singh Ji, responded with first explaining that the spiritual power that fakir had achieved are actually stumbling blocks on path to God realization and he reinforce his message with the discourse from Bhai Gurdas Ji Varan. Fakir further elaborated on why he came to baba jawala singh ji. In actuality, the murshid of the fakir had said that in 5 yrs you will meet an saint that will bless you with vision of Allah. Fakir’s murshid had come to him at same night and brought him to baba jawala singh door and so the fakir started pleading even more and asked for blessing of god’s vision from baba jawala singh ji. Baba Jawala Singh Ji compassionately connected him with God by making him recite, “Tu Sada Salamat Nirankar†(Japji Sahib). This resulted in the fakir going to deep state of meditation for 2 1/2 hours and baba jawala singh ji had usher him out of that state. I had no idea deep gnosis- supreme unity statement (maha vak) behind Tu sada salamat nirankar but now it all make sense. Vahiguru amazing.
