This has got to be one of the funniest threads I've ever read on the net. It sounds like a Goodness, Gracious Me skit.

Anyhow, some food for thought.

Love has 14 different meanings to the Greeks, the problem with trying to define is that it takes so many forms. eg. love of a child, parent, spouse, lover, sibling, etc.

As far as the cheating bit think about this: (please close your eyes if your under 35)

I was reading about the characteristics of sperm. Reseachers have found that male sperm actually carries various forms of sperm. There not all heading for the egg like in those look who's talking flicks. Only about 30 percent are headed to the egg. The remainder are classed as fighting sperm. What are they fighting your wondering? They are fighting the other sperm. Now your thinking why would your own sperm fight with each other? Wrong they are to fight another man's sperm, meaning we have created a biogical response to the issue of a woman having multiple sexual partners! The observations are profound, but suggest that manogamy is a human construct and therefore something that has to be worked on daily as suggested by the Sikh text.

Another interesting point of note is that a woman was found to actually be more likely to become pregnant from an encounter with her lover than her regular mate. I don't remember the reasoning for this but I sure you could google this stuff.

Oops gotta a go the other half is coming.

The Fighting sperm idea is actually a unproved theory (as of yet but I agree with it)

Its basically some sort of alpha male technology which comes from our animalistic days when we humans were no more then just animals.. etc, Throughout nature the male species have specific ways to ensure its their seed which is used to generate the next load of whatever species you are.

Like dogs have that knot or whatever to make sure once they are in they wont come out until the swelling goes away and that will take about anything from half an hour to 2 hours.. in that time it gives its sperm a head start to the egg before any other male dog comes along wanting to try.

But according to a tantric ideology, sperm holds your ojas and shakti within them. SO the fighting sperm are actually there to destroy and reconsume that shakti of the sperm which get tired and fall behind, ensuring that when the fighting sperm do get to the egg they have consumed as much of the original ojas and shakti of the man and hence a strong child is born, (thats how they explained deformalities saying the fighting sperm killed each other off and a weak sperm accidentally reached the egg first).

Funky huh..

sperm fighting sperm, swelling leading to swelling (think about it), geezus krist. enough!

the bottom line is that cheating on someone is gonna hurt them regardless of what u do.

and another thing is that no matter HOW open u are, if your significant other has multiple partners, you're gonna feel the burn.

and what the heck is a "goodness gracious me" skit? i dun get it...

Whoa nelly, it doesn't take much to get you fired up Ms. V.

I don't think anyone was suggesting that extra-marital relations is a good idea, just that manogamy may not be natural.

As far as, hurting your partner, that would only happen if they discovered your infidelity or if you passed on an STD. Of course the cheater would have to suffer with his/her own demons but I think it would be a further sin to baggage your partner with the problem. You messed up deal with it yourself.

'Goodness Gracious Me' was a British Indian Tv show similar to 'In Living Colour' but focussed on British Indian habits. Some great episodes you should check it out.

I believe one of the creators of 'Goodness Gracious Me' has made a new show now called the 'Kumars at number 44', I haven't seen it yet but hear it is pretty good.

I didn't get the swelling bit, or maybe I don't want to get it?!

Oh and maybe you should tell your friend 'Geezus' about the site, I'd love to hear his comments.

So umm, we should have like...multiple partners? I feel guilty already... Maybe everyone should have a license to er..do stuff, that way they will get regularly checked and sterilised, and when they pass more tests they can get it reversed to have children, simple! So many parents have kids now even though they arent more than a couple of kids themselves..

Oooh..the possibilities..

What is there to be confused about?

Cheating is a moral wrong no doubt about it.

But cheating does not go against nature since we were clearly created this way and have created biological mechanism to address it.

I am suggesting the purpose for males to engage with the opposite sex is not premised on enjoyment but rather the need to pass on their genes as widely as possible.

Manogamous relationships clearly go against the desire to pass on your genes to many, therefore you will have to battle your biological urges daily or even by the minute if you look at characters like 'Beast'.(No offence intended)

Females don't have the same problems since as long as they are impregnated they will pass on their genes. There is no guarantee for males that once they deposit sperm, the child born to that female is actually his or another male's child. Therefore it requires a different approach, that being impregnate many.

Of course today cheaters are primarily concerned with pleasure rather than gene delivery but at least we should not blame them for the urge. We should blame them for not being able to control it.

And while we're at 'it', where is the line of cheating really drawn today? Is it at sexual activity or as soon as you are emotionally engaged with someone or somewhere inbetween? Just wondering what your thoughts are on that. From reading the earlier posts it appears that Sikhism draws the line quite early at 'looking at another'. I would have to agree that it is much earlier than physical contact and but probably not at looking either. I'd say the point where one wants to spend time with another at the detriment of your partner. Spending time could be talking, emailing etc.

lol SWB... dun make me laugh. that wasn't me bein fired up. (u dun wanna see me get fired up... trust me...)

lemme start with the least significant point.

swelling leading to swelling... that relates to DB's point on how when dogs have sex the male dog swells up so that he can't get out leading to the female doggy (i wish i could use the right term for it) getting pregnant which is seen through the swelling of her belly (eventually). get it...? swelling leading to swelling?

beast... no one wants to go to ur stud farm. it's been abandoned for a very long time as far as i can tell.

u want geezus on this site? who told u he was my friend? who told u he's a he? :P

i don't really agree with your solution about keepin the cheating to urself and not burden ur partner with it. whatever happened to honesty in a relationship? if you messed up, u should get to deal with ALL the consequences, including seeing what it does to ur loved one. another thing to think about is the fact that it'd probably hurt your partner waaaay more if they found out from someone other than you. but the smartest thing to do to avoid hurting them at all is to just say no. treat infidelity like a drug. just say no. and repeat that line like a mantra or good luck charm to help you out when things get rough...

i'm of the opinion (and i hate to say it cuz i'm a girl) that women cheat just as much as men do. not every single woman that men cheat with are single. obviously there are some married women out there who are runnin outta their bedroom for some fun... or possible inviting someone else into their bedrooms for it. my point is simply that men and women both cheat. and it's virtually impossible to find out who cheats more cuz every survey that is conducted relies on the honesty of the people who take it. and no matter how much we'd like to believe that people are actually gonna tell the truth about what they do, it's a matter of fact that people are definitely gonna lie.

i think that you're cheating when you start to wonder if you're cheating. and if you're someone with absolutely no moral tendencies, cheating is doing things that you wouldn't do if your significant other was there. and if you and your significant other are really open to funkadelic things, then cheating is when you're doing something that would definitely hurt the other person (and i'm not talkin bout the person ur cheating with).

okay, now onto the nitty gritty.

a lot of people think about cheating as something based on our biological urges to spread the love/seed/genes. and i know i said something similar up above somewhere. but i'm starting to question this notion.

from what i've seen, the research based on this evolutionary theory is purely correlational since there's no way to really figure out a causal relationship between our genes and our sexual practices (yet).

so do we use this correlational theory to justify cheating? or is cheating REALLY a cause of our biological urges?

and if the former is true, then is monogamy really unnatural?

i'm havin a tough time figuring out this natural/unnatural business, since i'm of the opinion that what is natural is usually always right. but there's always the possibility that what we think is natural is just a reflection of what our culture tells us is natural.

and right now our culture tells us that wanting to cheat is natural. what if we grew up in a culture that taught us that monogamy is natural?

i know that a lot of people are gonna come right back at me and say, "oh! but Sukhi! our culture DOES tell us that monogamy is natural!"

to those people, my reply is "no! it doesn't!" and why? cuz the mere existence of infidelity and justifications like "we cheat because it's a biological urge to increase chances that we pass our genes onto the next generation" tell us that monogamy is NOT natural.

those are just a couple of my thoughts on the topic for now...

I dont think the biological theory is there to justify cheating.

Cheating I dont think is acceptible unless used as a last resort but even then one should answer to their respective partner or partners.

Polygomy isnt a form of cheating, and monogomy can be a form of cheating. For example lets say you are with a chick or a chuck (lol whats male for chick) and your married or in a relationship yet you have no feelings for that person and just do what you must because its expected, you keep your mouth shut as to the way you feel because you wish to avoid the hassle and have become accustomed to the relationship so you just carry it on like a day job. Could that be classed as cheating?

if i was with a guy (there's no male equivalent for chick DB) that i didn't like, i... wouldn't be in a relationship with a guy i didn't like! ew! why do guys always come up with these weird scenarios? do u guys run around with chicks u dun dig? what the heck is that about?

newho. DB, according to ur theory, this means that many arranged marriages in which the woman/girl/pre-adolescent was forced to marry someone she didn't love or wanna be with should be considered... infidelity...? i think that prolly makes a whole lot of us illegitimate kids... whada thought.

in order to burn off the contents of one small hot dog you'd have to have wild sex continuously for an hour, sikh fauge. and that doesn't include foreplay if u get my meaning. it's doubtful that any guy could seriously last that long. but then again, you and Neo always were kinda special, right...

Guys lets stick to the topic here.. take your usual chit-chat under ghap-

shap section.

Any off-topics will be deleted without notice. So post it on your own risk.

"Sexuality and Sikhism"

As far as I have learnt from this thread.

- Sikhi doesnt tell you to destory sex but conquer/control it.

- Sikhi doesnt encouraged someone to have sex before anand karaj.

- Sex before Marriage is Bujjar Kurehit in Sikhi.

- Quote from Kirtan Sohila, it says upon meeting saint kam and krodh were breaken into peices that means they were conquered NOT compeletly destoryed. How can Kam can be destroyed fully from human being when that itself its creation of Vahiguroo and Creation - Immortal(Amar).

-Yes you can attain god(bhramgyan) just by conquering/controlling Kaam.

I am not sure which posts were chit chat types but I will try to make sure mine are more robotic in nature from now on.

Amrik's post raises some interesting points, what are the Sikh positions on other aspects of sex or procreation specifically?

1. Adoption

2. New Reproductive and Genetic Technologies

3. Contraceptive use

4. Gay sex or marriage (which was declared legal by the SCC in Canada, today)

5. Eugenics

I'm sure there are many others but lets see if someone clarify those first, Thanks in advance.

You only have intercourse with your wife if man and husband if a woman. Intercourse with anyone else is bajjar kurehit. Which can be called excommunication automatically.

So what does that make Sikh people who are gay? They're not welcome to participate in Sikhism? I guess that isn't much different from all the other faiths. Did the 'holy book' say this specifically or is this someone's interpretation of what is written. If someone has the quotes to match Khalsa Fauj's post that would be great.

Personally, I am hoping that it can be interpreted to include all unions.
