just do simran with love and that will open it, surrender is all that works for dasam duar... it can open through seva many ways, give up the ego and love god to merge and it opens. just meditate on guru mantra until that is the only thing that exists, let it continually cut the thoughts until you merge into the gurumantra. banis as well let it cut thoughts until that is all that exists, your identity merges into guru manta. "waheguru gur mantra hai jaap homai koi"
from what ive learned effort can only take you to trikuti, 3rd eye, to go beyond that you need total surrender, technique doesnt matter.

    SSA brother Nalwa,
relating to your post above, following is a verse from Guru Jee :
    ਜਪਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਫਾਟਾ ॥
Jap Govidh Bharam Bho Faattaa ||
Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, your doubts and fears shall be dispelled.

    * From it what I understand is, that the mind will create doubts and fear in you, to derail you from the path of His meditation which will surely take us to Him,  then too never ever give up, for His Nao is our only anchor.
Do His bhakti,  knowing that He is always there to help and guide His devotees, that is His guarantee, which even Dharam Rai dares not to contradict.  That is why Guru Jee tells us:

    ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jo Simarai This Kaa Nisathaaraa ||1|| Rehaao ||
Whoever meditates on Him is emancipated. ||1||Pause||

*Moreover, if you derive even a bit of bliss from His jaap, take it as a blessing from Him, for as seen in the verse below, that, that alone wadbhagee jeeva chants His name, to whom He wants to do so, nobody else

    ਜਿ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥
    J Karaavai S Naam Vakhaanee ||
He alone chants the Naam, whom the Lord inspires to do so.

Hearing His Name, the Messenger of Death will release you, and yet, you do not take shelter at His Feet!
Raag Maaroo Sree Guru Arjan Dev

*In the verse above, Guru Jee is telling us that by gathering the wealth of His holy Name, and at our time of departure from this world when Dharam Rai´s yamdoots come to take our souls, they run away by seeing the splendour and lightning of that True wealth within us.
Then He also warns us, saying that knowing this fact of the supreme importance of His Name as our boat to be ferried across, yet we do not engage ourselves in that His devotion, but rather,  we prefer to perform many other things thinking them to be valid or substitutes for our spiritual maturity, which as seen throughout the Bani can never ever be so.
His Sachaa Nao, is the only boat to be boarded on,  not as per any man made  orientation, but as per the perfect teachings  of our beloved Guru Sahiban,  for the purpose of  getting ferried across from the mayavee and perishable realms, to that one alone of Supreme and eternal Truth, the one of Satnam.

    God is love

He is the Bestower and demands nothing in exchange for His gifts.
Similarly, love demands nothing in return. It knows only how to give; hence it is free from all selfishness….
True Love inspires generosity, and obliterates selfishness, because it has no ulterior motive.
So the nature of love is to give, without any expectations.
Our meditation/devotion is a practice  to give without any expectations.
Engaging in this devotion of meditating upon Him, is giving our attention, giving our time, ourselves, to this very  practice, day after day, never wondering what we’re supposed to get in return.
But how do we – selfish beings that we are – acquire this capacity to give without expecting anything back?
It is by putting our attention into that “current of love,” Anhad Naad, Shabad Dhun, resounding 24 hours a day non stop within us, which slowly makes us like itself.
It awakens in us the capacity to give selflessly, with no expectations.
This bhakti takes us and places us at His holy Feet, and has countless benefits for us.
It relieves us from our fears, from mind, maya, vikars, hatred, greed, sanskaras, and above all, it tunes us to live in His bhaana, thus we experience a sort of mysterious/mystical joy.
In this respect the Bani tells us:

    ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਬਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
Naam Jin Kai Man Vasiaa Vaajae Sabadh Ghanaerae |
The divine melody of the Shabad vibrates for those, within whose minds the Naam abides.

    ਕਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਛਾ ਸਭਿ ਪੁਜਾਈਆ ॥
Kar Saanth Sukh Man Aae Vasiaa Jin Eishhaa Sabh Pujaaeeaa ||
It has brought peace and tranquility to my mind; it has fulfilled all my desires.

    ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥੪॥
    Saachaa Naam Maeraa Aadhhaaro ||4||
The True Name is my only support. ||4||

    ਵਾਜੇ ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਸਭਾਗੈ ॥
Vaajae Panch Sabadh Thith Ghar Sabhaagai ||
The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate in that blessed house.

    ਘਰਿ ਸਭਾਗੈ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਕਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥
Ghar Sabhaagai Sabadh Vaajae Kalaa Jith Ghar Dhhaareeaa ||
In that blessed house, the Shabad vibrates; He infuses His almighty power into it.

Please do no use the word sikh so loosely.
For sikh is someone who fully  lives to the high moral standards as per sikhee.
Moreover, that jeeva knows that purity is an essential  requiste to do His bhakti, as His bhakti is the only means of reaching Him/Sachay Patshah/Waheguru Akal Purukh.
Such must be the faith and love of a true sikh for Sachay Patshah.
No purity, thus no bhakti, no love, and no Sachay Patshah

I heard this story about few months back during a kirtan samagam. The way the ragi explain the story was so emotional. Anyhow the version that I heard said that when she  "passed away"  and was left at the darbar where kirtan was being heard , it was Sri Dasmesh Pita who told her to take amrit. When she went to the gurdawara, the Gurdawara official refuse to give her amrit as they were not convinced with her story until she "threaten" that when she pass away and Sri Dasmesh pita asked why she have not taken the amrit, she will said that you asked me to take the great amrit  but your khalsha refuse to give the amrit. This lead the Sikh official to administer amrit unto her.

Brother, I think we should just focus on the essence of the video, which is the power of Mool Mantar. I do understand your point. Bhai Saab jee could have narrated the incident in a better way, but I don't believe he was being racist in anyway as he is a Gursikh of very high caliber. Also, as humans most of us are prone to error, therefore let's just focus on the positive side.

If a man runs with man is called "RACE" and if a man run towards GOD is called "GRACE".
Be bold and offer your heart to be led by GOD.
If you walk and talk with HIM you will  never miss the direction to your divine future.
So, our relation with Him, has to be a relation of true unconditional love
for He accepts nothing, but love alone.
If we can only give Him that our imperfect love though
then too He accepts it and becomes happier
Making Him happy is not that difficult

Glad to know you get some relief.
And about drinking coke or pepsi, it would be advisable if you avoid it, or substitute it with some fresh lemonades which is more healthier.
You know what, I do also love cokes, but the day I saw that a glass of coke of 100 ml had the quantity of about 8 cubes of sugar, since that day I cut off its intake, for sugar is the mother of many diseases, anyhow brother do as you wish.

Are you all sleeping enough and taking enough naps?
If I feel head pain coming around, normally going for a rest like a nap or sleeping really helps. Don't go for the caffeine straight away for tiredness, it's important to rest.
I think for these migraine situations it's important to get an additional nap additionally to normal sleep. Some people do biphasic sleep which used to be normal not too long ago.
Also try to keep hydrated, which I am always forgetting about now that I am at home during lockdown.

We have heard many a times, God is Love and Love is God.

Having said that, Wahiguru Akal Purukh is an Infinte Ocean of Love, of which the soul is a drop in essence.

So naturally the soul, at some time or other feels fed up from the mayavee creation, is restless and has a longing within to merge in its origin....

Saints throughout the history, have explained the relation between the soul and the Lord with diferent names, but with the same common factor as a link: Love.

Christ described the relation between the two as Father and Son.

Sree Ramakrishna as Mother and Son.

    Others, as Master and devotee

And in the Bani, with quite a wider range of different names, each sweeter than the other to that same relation,:
    Tum maat pitah, hum barik tere;
Him, addresed by the sikh/ soul as: Pyara Preetam, Mitter, Sajjan
As Purukh, just as an husband to the wife soul....

But the thing is, that sentiment of Love, has not to be expressed with mere words, it needs a force/action behind it.

    We can not cheat Him.

Just as in between any loving relation, the main factor to draw and hold them closer, is the time factor.

So is the same with our beloved wahiguru Akal Purukh.

And it is by the means of devotion in the form of His Simran, stay near Him closely, and tell Him, in His language of Love, Wahiguru I love you the most alone.

It is from His Bhakti, that true love will be generated.

Outer Love, and faith are most welcome, but we people are so selfish , that at the slightest karmic jerk, we tremble and turn our faces from Him .....

But in His Bhakti, His Simran, He blesses us with His Daya Meher, and strenghtens that our fragile initial love for His Lotus Feet.

The Bani says: Anter Jot, Niranter Bani, Sachay Sahib siu Liv laaee.

This means, when one progesses a bit on the path of devotion within, there comes a time, when with His Grace, we see His Akhand Jot and His melodious Voice as Anhad Shabad.

And as the Bani says, when we reach that stage, our kachha(weak) prem is converted into Pakka(solid strong) prem . Then no matter what may come or happen, we shall not waver.

Then too, we must keep in mind, we are not all at the same stgaes, each one of us has our own past sanskaras, karmas , kamaee...

While some do not believe at all, others are satisfied with rituals, symbolisims, dogmas, pilgrimages, fastings, yog, jap, tap, bathing in so called holy waters.... still a fewer, will take the Bani as Sat Bachan, and put into action what our Guru Sahibans have said in the Bani left for us, by laying supreme importance to His Simran, as the key to enter the spiritual realms and reach our destiny Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

You see, the teachings of Gurmat are the same for all the beings, but then the relation with Him, is different with each being. Wahiguru loves all as equal, but we manmukhs, are solely responsible for getting nearer to Him , or going away from Him, with our attitude in life, with our karmas, with our thoughts of benevolence towards all....

Only by starting being good here, can we expect to become wholly good as Him, in order to merge in Him.

There is a saying, knowledge has no limits ... so I think, if anyone here posts some type of techniques to improve one´s concentration, one`s attention within, there is no harm, rather we should welcome them, as maybe for sure, to most of us, it going to be helpful at some time.

Some people are more intelectual, so they need this type of explanations, some are blessed devotees, to them His Name is most sweet and lovely, they need no other knowledge, for them His name is channting, jap, tap, technique and everything.

So as long as we are not confused and apply ourselves diligently and faithfully to our comfort levels, all infomation regarding spirituality is most welcome.

Anyhow, needless to say, He is the center of everything. Everything revolves around Him. So anything we do, if that takes us nearer to Him, it is o.k, if it leads us to just mere intelllectualism and haume, then better leave it.

As long as any practice takes our attention within, fine, if it entagles us with maya and mind...then it is not good. There are some noble souls here doing a preety good job, by trying to give their best as humans beings in giving a helping hand to the best of their abilities.... That is selfless sewa, and it is praise worthy....

May Wahiguru´s blessings be on them, and all the rest always, it is an Ardas from this das, at His Lotus Feet.

    Sat Sree Akal.

harsharan000 got a reaction from Soulfinder in Sankat Mochan
    Brother Kalijug
in reality Sankat Mochan is the Bani itself, for the purpose of Guru Sahiban, Bhagat Jan and Gurmukh Jan, is to deliever us from the biggest sankat in which one can ever find oneself.
Everything else is secondary in comparison to that real sankat, for everything derives from that first and fundamental sankat. Thus solving that sankat, everything else fades out by itself.
So now the question is, what is that real "sankat"?
That real sankat, is the reality, that we are prisoners in the wheel of 84.  In which sometimes rarely we are up,  and mostly down. But in any case, very much prisoners in it.
The purpose of Gurbani, is nothing more than that of awakening us to that Higher and Ultimate Truth of Waheguru,  then,  by  relying on His kirpa, do the real thing and free ourselves, to finally merge and become one with Him.
    That is it.
So what is that real thing of freeing ourselves from the real "sankat" in which we are deeply rooted?
That real thing is the bhakti of H:is Saacha  Nao.
In that respect, the Bani tells us : Prabh ka Simran garb na baseh. His Saacha Nao, is our liberator, for it literally cuts off our strings with the "chaurasee ka chakar".
And the beauty is not only that one of freeing us, but, also reuninting us with our Origin / Waheguru Akal Purukh, for once and forever .
Is this not enough for us to be always happy and never ever feel discouraged?  What more grace do we want?  Why wsate away our life by keeping looking here and there when the way is laid for us by Maharaj?  Then too, we complain and say, Guru Jee why me, when we are in moments of pain and distress?
Gurbani is crystal clear  in what we must really do, then, if we do not follow implicity what Guru Jee tells us throughout the Bani, then who is to be blamed ? Waheguru the all merciful, or we the  proud "moorakhs"?
The answer is quite clear and obvious, it is we, the " moorakh manmukhs".
Throughout our lives, we may expirement some type of inner experiences with different techniques, which we may find them fascinating, but, if we do nothing  in terms of doing that real thing of reuinting our surtees with our Origin, then pitifully, we have  done nothing, for we have wasted away our precious human life, thus we remain prisoners in the "sankat" of the wheel of 84.
    Stay blessed.

    Brother Soulfinder,
found this following article  on the net, and thought of sharing it with you.
I know how hard  it is when one goes through such painful phases, so here it goes, hope it helps you in some way.

Migraines: Simple steps to head off the pain
Migraines cause pain as real as the pain of injuries — with one difference: Healthy habits and simple nonmedical remedies sometimes stop migraines before they start.
By Mayo Clinic Staff   Medication is a proven way to treat — and prevent — migraines. But medication is only part of the story. It's also important to take good care of yourself and understand how to cope with migraine pain when it strikes.
The same lifestyle choices that promote good health can also reduce the frequency and severity of your migraines.
In fact, knowing how to manage migraine pain with lifestyle and behavioral measures, as well as medication, can often be the most effective way to handle migraines.
    Find a calm environment
At the first sign of a migraine, retreat from your usual activities if possible.
Turn off the lights. Migraines often increase sensitivity to light and sound. Relax in a dark, quiet room. Sleep if you can. Try temperature therapy. Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck. Ice packs have a numbing effect, which may dull the sensation of pain. Hot packs and heating pads can relax tense muscles. Warm showers or baths may have a similar effect. Drink a caffeinated beverage. In small amounts, caffeine alone can relieve migraine pain in the early stages or enhance the pain-reducing effects of acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) and aspirin.
Be careful, however. Drinking too much caffeine too often can lead to withdrawal headaches later on.
    Sleep well
Migraines may keep you from falling asleep or wake you up at night. Likewise, migraines are often triggered by a poor night's sleep. Here are some tips to encourage sound sleep.
Establish regular sleep hours. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day — even on weekends. If you nap during the day, keep it short. Naps longer than 20 to 30 minutes may interfere with nighttime sleep. Unwind at the end of the day. Anything that helps you relax can promote better sleep: listen to soothing music, soak in a warm bath or read a favorite book.
But watch what you eat and drink before bedtime. Intense exercise, heavy meals, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol can interfere with sleep.
Minimize distractions. Save your bedroom for sleep and intimacy. Don't watch television or take work materials to bed. Close your bedroom door. Use a fan to muffle distracting noises. Don't try to sleep. The harder you try to sleep, the more awake you'll feel. If you can't fall asleep, read or do another quiet activity until you become drowsy. Check your medications. Medications that contain caffeine or other stimulants — including some medications to treat migraines — may interfere with sleep.
    Eat wisely
Your eating habits can influence your migraines. Consider the basics: Be consistent. Eat at about the same time every day. Don't skip meals. Fasting increases the risk of migraines. Keep a food journal. Keeping track of the foods you eat and when you experience migraines can help identify potential food triggers. Avoid foods that trigger migraines. If you suspect that a certain food — such as aged cheese, chocolate, caffeine or alcohol — is triggering your migraines, eliminate it from your diet to see what happens.   Exercise regularly
During physical activity, your body releases certain chemicals that block pain signals to your brain. These chemicals also help alleviate anxiety and depression, which can make migraines worse. Obesity also increases the risk of chronic headaches, so maintaining a healthy weight through exercise and diet can provide additional benefits in managing migraines.
If your doctor agrees, choose any exercise you enjoy. Walking, swimming and cycling are often good choices. But it's important to start slowly. Exercising too vigorously can trigger migraines.
    Manage stress
Stress and migraines often go hand in hand. You can't avoid daily stress, but you can keep it under control to help manage your migraines: Simplify your life. Rather than looking for ways to squeeze more activities or chores into the day, find a way to leave some things out. Manage your time wisely. Update your to-do list every day — both at work and at home. Delegate what you can, and divide large projects into manageable chunks. Take a break. If you feel overwhelmed, a few slow stretches or a quick walk may renew your energy for the task at hand. Adjust your attitude. Stay positive. If you find yourself thinking, "This can't be done," switch gears. Think instead, "This will be tough. But I can make it work." Enjoy yourself. Find time to do something you enjoy for at least 15 minutes every day. It could be playing a game, having coffee with a friend or pursuing a hobby. Doing something you enjoy is a natural way to combat stress. Relax. Deep breathing from your diaphragm can help you relax. Focus on inhaling and exhaling slowly and deeply for at least 10 minutes every day. It may also help to consciously relax your muscles, one group at a time. When you're done, sit quietly for a minute or two.   Keep a migraine diary
A diary may help you determine what triggers your migraines. Note when your migraines start, what you were doing at the time, how long they last and what, if anything, provides relief. Until recently, avoiding migraine triggers was considered the best advice. But new research suggests this may actually increase sensitivity to potential triggers.
A more useful approach may be to learn to cope with these headache triggers by using behavioral management techniques, such as identifying and challenging negative thoughts, relaxation training and stress reduction.
