  1. thanks for letting me know aarti aarta video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6...amp;q=arti+arta
  2. Thanks for sharing jsingh, vaheguru is the word, "ਗ੍ਰਾਹੀ ਸੁਭ ਤਯਾਗਿ ਬਿਵਰਜਿਤਿ ਸ਼੍ਰਤਯਾਦਯੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਮੁਖ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ॥ ਗੀਤਾ ੳੁਪਨਿਸਦਿਨ ਮਹਾ ਵਾਰਯ, ਰਹਿਨੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਗਯਾਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੇਸ਼੍ਵਰ ॥੫॥ Hearing what God tells them in the scriptures, in the noble words of the (Bhagavad) Gita and the Upanishads, they follow the auspicious, avoiding what is evil and live as devout and knowledgeable people." Does anyone know if there are any alternative interpretations of this line, is this meaning also accepted by Akali Baba Santa Singh Ji?
  3. i belive its a collection of dasam bani recited alongside arti. btw. which gutka is that?
  4. Source is from nihang kamalroop singh ji blog: "In Ko Daras Satguru Ko darshan bolan Guru Shabad Gur Grantha. Dvadas Roop Satigur Eh Kaiyat Dvadas Bhan Pargat Har Santha. Partakya Kala Parbraham Dhanee Shai Granth Panth Khalsa Vartanta. Das Gobind Fateh Satgur Ki Khalsa Granth Gur Roop Bidanta" "Having the blessed audience (of the Khalsa) is equal to having the audience of the Guru, as long as they are singing the songs of love held within Guru Granth Sahib. There are twelve forms of the Guru this is what I (Guru Gobind Singh) tell you, There are twelve forms who revealed themselves I tell you Oh Saints. This is the blatant arrow of power dispensed by the ultimate Creator, Deal with the Guru Granth Guru Panth as the Khalsa. The slave of the Deathless Being, Guru Gobind Singh, (does not recognise this victory as his), the victory is of supreme true Guru, the Khalsa and the Granth, these are very form and presence of the Guru." Vaheguru, Dhan hai Guru Gobind Singh Ji dhan hai Guru Granth Sahib Ji! what i meant was by guru sahib ji, otherwise such groups just moan that only sikhs made it up, sorry for not clarifying.
  5. One thing great about this granth is, the obvious proof of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji having gurgaddi, WRITTEN PROOF, smack in the face of all anti-sikh groups.
  6. Hi, just wondering what significance does ram chandar have to nirmala samprada to have him placed in a mangalcharan?
  7. I know you asked for notations, but here's a great recording, and I know some people are good at working out notations by hearing, sorry if this isn't helpful though. http://www.gurmatsangeetproject.com/Record...nd%20Sahib2.mp3
  8. Oh my God! another sikh chronicles of narnia fan! *faints* My favourites have always been the last, but above all the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I could never ever get tired of reading that. I tend to try to stick to sikhi books these days, but if u do read, then the Five People you Meet in Heaven (Mitch Alborn) is a great book. An Inspector Calls, J.B Priestly, its written as a play but its still a good read. Better Day Coming, Adam Fairclough (very inspiring book about the work of African Americans against the discrimination they have faced over so many hundreds of years)
  9. I have always respected them for the art, and have never been one of those who insults the actual vidya or like others claim it is a mish mash of other arts as the lineage has always added up, but this bit stuck out to me: Niddar Singh recently demonstrated Shastar Vidya to masters of martial arts from China and Japan. “We showed the highest techniques, the Mahakal and Shiva Paenthra. The Chinese and Japanese from Jujitsu schools and Katori Shinto identified in the techniques, secret techniques that they themselves don’t teach anybody unless they’ve been with them for 40 odd years!” Any comments? Although the article gave this a positive spin, isn't this an admittance that there IS some overlap between the two arts? And in regards to shiva, outside of the religious field there is no evidence of Shiva existing (although I do believe), so why present it as a scholarly finding?
  10. I understand this is an old thread so pictures tend to dissapear, but does anyone still have it? could you be kind of enough to repost it please?
  11. nice speech Are they sikh, the way he referred to guru sahib as "our 9th guru"?
  12. this ones a fav of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0EGji9k5GQ asa asavari
  13. If we were all gurmukhs, i think we would all simply be lost in the words being sung, rather than HOW they were being sung.. Har ka naam na japas gavara kya sochay barang bara
  14. Naam and Bani are interlinked, bani is FILLED to the brim with naam. Naam cannot be without gurbani as gurbani is the guru, and only the guru can make you jap naam. The purpose of bani is to inspire us to jap NAAM. See what you can infer from this. Gurmat naam mera praan sakhayee, har keerat hamri rehraas. I believe the answer is in here, lets do ardas to maharaj for understanding of this. please forgive me, i can only talk about naam not do it myself, and i probably even get this wrong too
  15. haha what memories, i used to go the khalsa college ones so very many years back
  16. Our Guru Sahib's may have used it but I really don't see any relevence to it now, they randomly started some trend about tilaks at hazoor sahib only recently, but some how its 'pratan' cause its hazoor sahib.
  17. Power of Guru Sahib through the panj pyare and gurbani, no force is mightier. Read the following: Evil Spirits Flee in Terror from Gursikhs: Baraylee Smaagam 1959 & 61 By Prof. Thakur Singh Translated by Admin www.tapoban.org The July and August Smaagams used to take place in Baraylee but in 1959, the Smaagam took place in May. In this Smaagam's amrit sinchaar, a couple from Mainpuree was blessed a lot with spiritual ecstasy. Another amazing incident from this amrit sinchaar is the case of the woman attacked by an evil spirit. This woman was from Baraylee. When she appeared before the Punj Pyaaray, she told Jathedar Sahib, Baoo Mul Singh jee, "An evil spirit has possessed me but she could not enter this place. She remained outside the door." Baoo jee assured the woman that in this place no evil spirit could enter. Wherever naam is repeated then forget evil spirits, even Jamm Doot cannot enter. "Jaih sadhoo gobind bhajan keertan nanak neet|| Naa hou(n) Naih too(n) Naih chhoTih nikT na jaaeeoh doot" Dharam Raja tells his Jamm-Doot the above that wherever saintly people are and where there is naam simran or keertan, don't go near that place. Otherwise, "neither I nor you can be saved". Then Baoo jee told the woman that she should receive amrit and meditate on naam and all spirits would leave. When all the peshees had finished and the Bata was prepared, the aspirants came one at a time to receive amrit. When that woman's turn came, drops of amrit entered her and she was taught naam. As she began to jap naam, she screamed out "That spirit has run away!". Another even more amazing incident is this: A very scary looking woman, who would cause children to run away just by looking at her, was brought to the Baraylee Smaagam in 1961. This was a very superstitious and irrational woman. She was prepared in order to present her before the Panj Pyaaray. When it came her turn to be Peshed, she stopped in front of the door. She would not go in. When even a number of people together could not drag her in, then the Jathedar of the Punj Pyaaray, Baoo Mul Singh jee came out with his unsheathed sword and told the woman to come in. At this, that horrible, scary, witch-like woman glared with red eyes at Baoo jee and lunged at Baoo jee screaming "I won't leave you either!" Baoo Jee challenged the spirit possessing this woman and said "Fine, I'm ready. You leave this woman and come into me." The spirit replied "I won't leave her" and she lay down in front of the door. Sree Maan Baoo jee motioned to some Singhs who then picked up the woman and brought her inside. Upon entering, she quietly sat down. She was held and given amrit. When the Punj Pyaaray were imparting Gur-Mantar, she stubbornly resisted for some time but then she could not resist the sound of Gur-Mantar and began to loudly cry out "Leave me alone! Leave me alone! I'll leave! I'll leave her!" Baoo jee replied "You had said you wouldn't leave this woman…." The spirit then exclaimed, "I was never going to leave her, but what can I do? Now I'm dealing with BrahmGyaanees…" Saying this, the evil spirit left and the woman came to her senses and began to recite Gur-Mantar. So at Baraylee, because of Baoo jee, such incidents always occurred. In these years a Smaagam took place in Kota Rajasthan where under the Jathedaaree of Baoo Mul Singh jee another similar incident took place.
  18. Only five, i used to be in the same boat as you, but guru ji did kirpa, listen there is a lot of misunderstanding of dasam granth these days even from people who believe in it, they give the wrong meanings themselves so its no wonder average sikhs will get shanka. PLEASE PLEASE Listen to vyakhia, katha etc of dasam granth by the real deal taksalis, listen to what sant baba jarnail singh ji, sant babagurbachan singh ji,sant baba kartar singh ji, and giani thakur singh ji say, listen with an open mind, IGNORE all the koor parchar, please. and the story is NOT about Guru Sahib, its about a king! Chartiropakhyan means stories which have already been told, so it cant be about anything contemporary i.e. cant be about guru sahib.
  19. I feel very sorry for the tamil people, as Sikhs we can truly relate to the situation yet ironically due to the Sikh PM of India many tamils are feeling quite some negativity towards Sikhs at the moment due to their views on India's involvement. I have actually been middle fingered on one or two occasions by tamils driving off in cars while walking. Its a shame there aren't many large Sikh organisations who can express solidarity on behalf of the sikh community.
