to Balbir Singh, I understand your point here and this is where an earlier convention which states that anyone who tells you that you are god is your guru because you have been told the absolute truth... (no jokes in this one)

If I am correct, which I'm usually not unless I'm making meaningless posts in which case no rationale except my own can be used as a litmus test.....I believe that interpreting what he said through 'polar' glasses is the issue. The professor is very thorough and he pretty much shares failings he sees in absolute approaches. At one point later in the text he cuts down the 'universalism' fad by praising the siddhs of old who are ascetics... he liked geisha's and I like him...ps. I dont' believe the wine was ever bad, but the drinker...who is not a thinker, but likes to tinker with the whores -

I believe gyani maan singh jhaur left the katha scene. I liked the fact that he used emotion, stories and practical failings to explain his points -

N30, I think the point here is that the up-samparda isn't different from any other nirmallay in practices but it appears that they are presented as something different. It is like the Dam Dami Taksal claiming a lineage and then people thinking that there is some special accord given because of the lineage itself. The thing is that the majority of nirmallay are in unison about meditation being the 'accepted' mode of bhagtee. I think the misunderstanding/quirk has arised because you were addressing babaji according to his own lineage and since babaji refers alot to the mahapurakhs of this lineage; it is just convention to say 'bhai daya singh samparda' when talking to babaji. -

Shaheediyan bhai sahib, you've echoed my sentiments. You are 100% right! the chinese whispers come down to dogmatic/doctrinal issues. Our source for what matters the most is 100%....why is there the need to overcompensate...If I had a chocolate cake and complained about the cherry not being there...is there not something wrong in my 'buddhi'....I say kach da glaas steel da glaas...tell others to go find the cherry and gobble down that sucker on my own! my point here being that when the source isn't 100% pure. Ie. kavi santokh singh, whose knowledge I matha teyk too, because he liked his afeem and nashay...anything to do with nashay is attributed to his weakness and anything that makes guru sahib look purer than pure is 'correct'....I think that is weak

I have read the gurmukhi versions of both, and I guess everything else comes down to how much credibility we give the source. My question is, would Guru Nanak not have spoken to the people in the vernacular (local language)? if so, where is that? if it were only compiled in gurmukhi, where was it found....over time chinese whispers have become preached fact. This is very dangerous

dhan96crore, I am interested in why we should read it and how it is so powerful? please explain...your ideas are noble, I just want to understand the reckoning behind them -
Hello Gentleman, I am not sure where I stand on the apocalyptic or prophecy element of sikhi as much of what we go by is communal in nature and 'pressed' after the fact. This is why bani's such as karni nama and naseehat nama are deemed apocryphal because they can't be solely attributed to the Guru's. On this note, in doing veechar of gurbani, I find that if the current moment (which is always fleeting) is broken down into 3 semi-stable parts, then our current moment (the one we are in) can be seen as the just past, just passing, and about to pass...and I find (the 'general' pattern) is the need to fix the 'just past'...which means the sense of urgency for us as individual before we move onto the next phase is of optimum importance. Hence, communal or prophetic notions of a golden time just don't seem to jive with me...call me 'poppy'

N30 would you like to share your wahabi thoughts with the sangat?....the essence or crux of my question is whether understanding the aspect of creation or the the process of how divinity is transmitted takes precedence over the process of striving/learning to worship/realise god...or are they the same point. My only concern is people get too caught up in structures and miss the point, in which case I'd say 'do a freakin' physics degree, design a vehicle (any structure you want) that gets people from A to B in the shortest and safest possible time....and then make millions, give me a cut...and that'll be my parshaad'

a more serious comment, and maybe this should be a seperate thread on its own, but something worth discussing. It is about perspective as opposed to hard facts and I believe the most beneficial way to answer this question is to provide facts herein..... Let me give a scenario: An attractive lady is in a shower, behind a fogged shower screen and all you can make out is that someone is there...as you get closer and closer and closer you can make out more and more and more...but out of our own decency and fear, we are not too keen on infringing on the person's privacy.....what are our obstacles our desire our morality our decision to proceed or stop our decision to approach further and then probe our hope that she touches the screen by accident so you can see through the mist..... I purposely chose a challenging situation as each step of the way, one has to assess things and decide how much they will and can perceive. We all accept that god is uncreated, ever existing, and has a creative element agreed? and then there is creation, and that creation has many levels of smokescreen, visualize the above situation (90% are thinking about a soap commercial for sure), but my question comes down to what is it that draws us?......is it the fact that the uncreated has created something and one feels absolutely elated that the structure has been understood (hukam) or is it the innate desire we have within to gaze upon the body?.....is it the body and its structure or is it our desire...or are they interelated? does the person who does not engage on the peeping tom marag miss the point?....and is the punishment encroached in the fact that they missed the opportunity to see piece?....do I make sense?...... well let me take this back now. you have seers/sages and prophets. Both are highly revered yet the functionality is different. (I am not refering to any thought, but giving the 'layman' perception). One professes attainment of something greater through which they share ways of attaining to that state and their perceptions, and the other is seen as the chosen one who delivers directives to humanity. The latter isnt' said with any disrespect or condescendence. I am merely contrasting self effort and grace through this example....and it begs the question..... continual gyan-bhagtee strive to experience the relationship with god or the strive to understand the construct of creation through which we attain grace....both require grace the means is different....or are they one in the same as the core qualities to be cultivated and expressed are the same?
