I know this is old news, but just wanted to post these articles and get the discussion up and running, i guess bhausaria mindset is eating heads of those who are known as greatest personality in the panth as well.

Amritsar: Akhand kirtani jatha has warned Prof Darshan Singh that he should discuss with them Dasam Granth and Vaar of Bhai Gurdass singh ji in presence of international media, panthic scholars and Sikh sangat. The spokesman of Jatha, Dr Balwinder Singh and eleven member committee member Bhai Mohkam Singh in a press note stated that they will prove that Prof Darshan Singh is preaching against Gurbani and playing into the hands of anti Sikh forces.

It is worth to mention that Prof Darshan Singh on Jan 5 birthday of sahib Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj spoke against Bachitra natak, Dasam Granth and Hemkunt sahib in Gurudwara Rakab Ganj, Delhi. It hurt the sangat present there and their religious feelings were outraged. Some young men opposed it in Diwan Hall and a stampede was created there thereby everyone left the Gurudwara. Direct relay of programme from TV was also canceled.

Akhand kirtani jatha said if Darshan singh considers himself wiser than panthic scholars then he should have debate with Prof Jodh Singh, Giani Sher Singh Ambala, Kanwar Ajit singh, Dr Anokh Singh Bhatinda in presence of media and sangat on Dasam Granth and Bhai Gurdas Singh ji 2nd.

Reacting sharply to the IHRO Report about Darshan Singh Ragi uttering blasphemous remarks about the banee of Guru Gobind Singh ji, he has been refused to perform keertan at Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar at Jalandhar ( PH:+91-181-2271875 ) on the auspicious occasion of maghi.

In a press release issued by Jathedars Jagjit Sigh Gaba and Ranbir Singh Jaura, President and Secretary respectively of Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Committee stated that there was great resentment against Prof. Darshan Singh for using derogatory language against Guru Gobind Singh ji and his banee.

It may be recalled that earlier too Darshan Singh Ragi approached SGPC to permit him to do keertan at Sach Khand Harimandir Sahib but the permission was refused by Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar.

Darshan Singh Ragi is in great dilemma as during his whole stint as kirtaniya he had been doing keertan of Dasam Banee and also wrote numerous articles and lectures too. Surprising after ostracisation of Kala Afghana from the Panth by Akal Takhat he seems to be too eager to adopt this new role of Kala Afghana.

Maghi is an auspicious occasion for the Sikh Panth when forty Singhs who had deserted Guru Gobind Singh at Anandpur Sahib reassemble under the command of Mai Bhago and fought the heroic battle at Mukatsar Sahib and attained martyrdom. Guru Gobind Singh ji there had tore and destroyed the desertion letter (bedawa) given by these Sikhs. A consistent move had been going on for some time to denigrate and belittle the martyrdom of these great Sikhs by spreading the canard that no one gave a bedawa and no such incidence of Guru Gobind Singh ji tearing the same ever happened. Ragi Darshan Singh's move to deny the history and biography of Guru Gobind ji penned by himself is nothing but greatest insult and challenge to the Sikhs and as such he was denied to do keertan at one of the main panthik stage of Jalandhar.

It may be recalled that Dr. Diwan Singh, one of the greatest scholar who was professor of Persian at Khalsa College in 1940 had sarcastically remarked that if these people are so keen to deny the great history and sacrifice of forty mutes then they will have to first demolish Mukatsar Sahib, the source of inspiration for generations.

Thereafter Bhai Randhir Singh and Bhai Gurmej Singh ji ragis of Darbar Sahib, Sri Amritsar did the keertan for the maghi at the Gurdwara Sahib.

The International Human Rights Organisation Tuesday appreciated Akhand Kirtani Jatha and local Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadar's management committee for endorsing the stand of the IHRO that Darshan Singh Ragi were uttering blasphemous remarks about the bani of Guru Gobind Singh, while affirming that it would continue censuring such profane and debased persons and taking legal action against them, if necessary .

IHRO chairperson D S Gill and its coordinator for Sikh Affairs (IHRO- SA), Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba, in a statement , said, "We applaud Jathedar Jagjit Sigh Gaba and Ranbir Singh Jaura, President and Secretary respectively of Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Committee, Jalandhar who dared stop Prof Darshan Singh for using derogatory language against Guru Gobind Singh and his bani and refused him to perform kirtan at the gurdwara on maghi day.

Earlier too, Darshan Singh Ragi approached SGPC to permit him to do keertan at Sach Khand Harimandir Sahib but the permission was refused by Jathedar Avtar Singh Makkar, asserted the IHRO.

The IHRO said, Darshan Singh Ragi, as kirtaniya, had been doing keertan, writing articles and lecturing on Dasam Bani, and now after the ex-communication of Kala Afghana from the Panth by Akal Takhat he seems to be too eager to adopt this new role of Kala Afghan, which is really intriguing.

We also applaud the Akhand Kirtani Jatha that has reportedly warned Prof Darshan Singh of his nefarious and dirty activities and asked him to have a public debate on Dasam Granth and Vaar of Bhai Gurdas with panthic scholars such as Prof Jodh Singh, Giani Sher Singh Ambala, Kanwar Ajit Singh, Dr Anokh Singh Bhatinda in presence of Sikh sangat, added the IHRO activists.

The IHRO has called upon all Sikh institutions, organisations and groups, including Akal Takht, Khalsa Action Committee, Damdami Taksal and SGPC, too to take note of Prof Ragi's illegal, blasphemous activities.

Meanwhile, the IHRO core group, in a meeting, decided to file a criminal case under section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code against him, in case Prof Ragi did not stop his irreligious and blasphemous activities, according to IHRO general secretary Mohinder Singh Grewal and Coordinator (Legal Affairs), Sukhdev Singh Ramgarh Sibian.

Well,

to be honest, I don't see why discussing anything against hemkunt sahib is bad. Bhai vir singh is the person who founded the place according to his understanding of gur partap sooraj granth.

The professor, like many others, is trying to get people to look within gurbani. I find him quite boring to be honest, and there are probably 2 shabads of his I like (but that is mostly due to familiarity of growing up with them). Apart from that, He really doesn't go into great depth..he just deconstructs everything to a few basic notions...that becomes the ethical norm (like many missionaries) and then politicizes everything. For a dumb guy, I like the intellectual stuff. Speaking of which, there are things kala afghana had said that were interesting...I don't agree with his overall stance/view of things though.

It's about time pro dasam granth scholars and anti dasam granth scholars get together for 7 day long smagam vichars and discussions and get themselves infront of camera and judges (unbias scholars of the panth).

Why is Darshan Singh facing the wrath of the Panth?

The charges against Prof Darshan Singh for using derogatory remarks for Guru Gobind Singh Sahib's banee and becoming a turn coat from his earlier beliefs are very serious and cannot be ignored.

For some time Darshan Singh has not seized any opportunity to attack the banees of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. Maybe under some misunderstand that his blasphemy will go unchecked he increased his assault on Gurbanee, Guitihas and Gurmaryada.

Now that finally the panth has taken a serious cognizance of this, it is important that his blasphemy, hypocrisy and the charges against him be brought in front of the sangat.

It might be difficult to understand the U-turn of Darshan Singh from his own earlier beliefs and sermons, but it is not difficult to understand which group’s skewed ideological views he is serving. All panthic organizations have been unanimous in condemning Darshan Singh. As expected only a handful of people and groups who are vocally supportive of excommunicated Kala Afghana and his skewed ideology have come to his support.

If what Darshan Singh has said would have come from an unknown individual then his views would have been ignored as heretic. Because Darshan Singh’s novel views even contradict his own previous position it is important to bring this to the notice of the Panth.

Just to ensure that the genuine issues surrounding Prof. Darshan Singh's blasphemous comments are not faded, here is a brief gist of things because of which Darshan Singh has faced the wrath of the Panth and Panthic institutions:

1. Darshan Singh says, "Even the Gurbanee of Guru Gobind Singh ji cannot be accepted, if it is not according to Gurmat".

Is the Guru and Gurmat two separate entities?

2. Darshan Singh claims "Guru Gobind Singh ji's writings are mere literature".

This was exactly the stand of excommunicated Kala Afghana that the writings of Guru Gobind Singh ji cannot be considered as Gurbanee. If Darshan Singh’s views are taken to be true then where is the concept of banees of nitnem and amrit sanchar? All through these years was he doing the Keertan of literature and not of Gurbanee? Are Sikhs baptized with literature and not Gurbanee? Do millions of Sikhs around the world recite literature for their Nitnem?

3. Serving some petty political agenda Darshan Singh like Baba Ram Rai even dared to distort the banee by misquoting ਬੇਮੁਖ ਬਦਲ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ ਕੂੜੋ ਆਲਾਏ (bemukh badal chal) as ਬੇਮੁਖ ਬਾਦਲ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ ਕੂੜੋ ਆਲਾਏ (bemukh baadal chaal).

4. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib's autobiography, The Bachittar Natak is the only source where the primary evidence of the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib is canonized by Lord's own pen. All through his life Darshan Singh had been doing Katha and Keertan from it. And now he had the audacity to denigrate and speak volumes of filth against this indispensable source of Gur Itihas and Gurmat and that too while performing Keertan at Rakab Ganj Sahib, the gurdwara associated with Guruji's martyrdom. The walls of all the gurdwaras of Delhi associated with Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib resonate day and night with cantos from Bachittar Natak during Ardas .

Once Dr. Fauja Singh acknowledged the Persian chronicles's version of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib's martyrdom, and he had to face the wrath of the Panth for ignoring the primary evidence given by Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. As a result he sought forgiveness for having overlooked that primary evidence source of martyrdom given in Bachittar Natak.

Now by attacking Bachittar Natak and Dasam Banee Prof. Ragi has tried to behead Guru Tegh Bahadur ji once again by killing the primary evidence of Guru ji's martyrdom. Ironically Darshan Singh himself has been doing the katha and keertan of Bachittar Natak.

5. Bhai Gurdas II is the author of the Vaar wherein he has clearly mentioned that Khalsa was created as a third religion separate from Hindus and the Muslims. 'Wah Wah Gobind Singh Aape Gur Chela', and 'Gur-sangat Keeni Khalsa' is from his pen. Now Ragi Darshan Singh has also aimed his guns at this by using derogatory language for Bhai Gurdas II by branding him as an agent of Muslims.

6. Kala Afghana was excommunicated from the Sikh Panth for his blasphemous writings aimed at disintegrating the very fabric of Khalsa traditions and Gurmat. Now Darshan Singh has tried to occupy his mantle by openly praising Kala Afghana in his writings.

7. Last year at Dayal Pura Bhai Ka, Bathinda on the celebrations of Zafarnama day, only the parkash of Guru Granth Sahib was done. Darshan Singh has repeatedly lied that there was also the parkash of Sri Dasam Granth. For this a hukamanama from Akal Takhat Sahib was issued warning sangat to beware of him and his lies.

8. As per the panthic maryada of Sachkhand Sri Harimandir Sahib, one of the statutory conditions for the appointment of a granthi or Singh Sahib is that he should be able to do the Katha of both Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib. Darshan Singh has the audacity to speak against the Dasam Banee and hence has debarred himself from holding the title of Singh Sahib. Even after this if keeps on calling himself Singh Sahib then it is nothing but hypocrisy.

9. It is strange that Prof. Darshan Singh is now speaking against his own Keertan and has defied his own Katha by which he had inculcated the Sikhi spirit in the minds and hearts of the masses.

10. Before and after his tenure as Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib Darshan Singh did perform keertan from Dasam Banee at Takhat Sri Patna Sahib and Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib but now with tongue in cheek he is saying that he did not know there was parkash of Sri Dasam Granth.

All through these years Darshan Singh had earned respect as a panthic ragi by his devotion and belief in the Gurbanee. He himself has ceased that respect by denigrating the same banees.

These are serious issues requiring serious considerations. IHRO, AKJ and various panthic organizations are fulfilling their panthic and religious duty by bringing this out to the sangat.

Knowingly or unknowingly Darshan Singh is serving the cause of those who are aligned to the distorted and ostracized ideology of Kala Afghana, by becoming a handle of their anti-panthic axe. This is evident from the support he is getting from these quarters. These people will come to the rescue of anyone who will accomplish their agenda of damaging the Sikh principles. The above views of Darshan Singh clearly prove that point.
