Battle of Chamkaur - numbers?

Look at translation II (a letter sent to Wazir Khan himself) on page 107 (scribd page number, not the book).

The above order explicitly mentions Wazir Khan's previous communication referencing 700 cavalry and a park of artillery being sent.  If we add on some extra hanger-ons we are looking at odds of about 20 to one, which is no minor thing in itself.

Even then, drawing a conclusion of a million being sent against 40 is demented. By the looks of the order, Delhi didn't know about this event until Wazir Khan informed them of it, so it doesn't look like they sent anyone at that stage. The attachment that I posted is actually a confirmation from Delhi that they got the information about the event from Wazir Khan.

Read it: it says (right at the beginning) that a letter has been received (at the Moghul darbarr in Delhi) and then it goes on to detail some of the contents of this letter.

Plus I know most of us here would wet our pants at having to deal with 5 to one odds in a kill or be killed situation, so stop playing down the fact that even as it stands (without the 'millions'), those Singhs showed some serious heart.

Plus think, for God's sake. Do you think it would be possible for anyone to fight their way through a cordon of a million people like some people did! Duuhhhh!! lol

The news had also reached that a large contingent was coming to reinforce the imperial army already in action.

Those 700 people were reinforcements. Are there any other historical sources, that mention about numbers?

Why would Satguru jee mention 1 milllion in Gurbani, if their numbers were in thousands? Maharaaj could have used the term "Hazaar" (thousand) instead of "Lak". Even the word "Hazaar" is a Farsi word. Maharaaj would never exaggerate the numbers or provide incorrect information.

What makes you think otherwise? You seem to be rationalizing from a battle warriors perspective. We are taking about 'Saint Soldiers' here not your typical 'brave soldiers'. These were the Singhs who had conquered death ... without ego. Perhaps not something that our puny boxed minds can comprehend.
