Who is favourite to be the next Prime Minister?

Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss are the most likely candidates to replace Boris Johnson, bookmakers say

Bookmakers have narrowed the odds on chancellor Rishi Sunak replacing Boris Johnson as prime minister following days of damaging revelations about gatherings at Downing Street.

Website Oddschecker, which complies the odds of leading British bookmakers, has the odds of Rishi Sunak being named the next Prime Minister at 7/4, a slight improvement in his chances.

Odds for the foreign secretary Liz Truss however have changed further, with the likelihood of her taking the top job shortened from 10/1 to 5/1.

Betting agent Ladbrokes however have kept Liz Truss’s odds at 11/2, just under the chancellor who stands at 11/8.

Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt is the next favourite, according to Ladbrokes, with his chances at 7/1 - neck and neck with Labour leader Keir Starmer.

Bookmakers are in agreement however that Boris Johnson is likely to be pushed out of his job as prime minister in 2022.

Mr Johnson is now odds-on to be replaced this year, according to betting firms Coral and Labrokes.

“Our betting indicates the PM is unlikely to see out the year in No 10”, said Coral’s John Hill.

Ladbroke’s odds of Boris Johnson being ousted in 2022 are currently 1/5.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “With letters of no confidence seemingly being written left, right and centre, Dominic Cummings back on the prowl and Rishi Sunak’s refusal to back the PM, it leaves Boris Johnson’s future under serious threat and we’ve been left with little option but to slash the odds accordingly .”

The betting agent’s odds are at 16/1, 20/1 and 20/1 for Michael Gove, Dominic Raab and Sajid Javid respectively.

She's married to a Gora btw

A Muslim MP says her faith was raised by a government whip as a reason why she was sacked as a minister in 2020.

According to the Sunday Times, Tory Nusrat Ghani said that when she asked for an explanation it was stated her "Muslimness was raised as an issue".

Conservative Chief Whip Mark Spencer said Ms Ghani was referring to him and added her claims were completely false and he considered them defamatory.

No 10 said the PM had previously met with Ms Ghani to discuss her concerns.

A spokesperson said Boris Johnson "then wrote to her expressing his serious concern and inviting her to begin a formal complaint process. She did not subsequently do so. The Conservative Party does not tolerate prejudice or discrimination of any kind".

In response, Ms Ghani said Mr Johnson "wrote to me that he could not get involved and suggested I use the internal Conservative Party complaint process".

She said she did not do this because it was "very clearly not appropriate for something that happened on government business".

"I do not even know if the words that were conveyed to me about what was said in reshuffle meetings at Downing Street were by members of the Conservative Party," she added.

"All I have ever wanted was for his government to take this seriously, investigate properly and ensure no other colleague has to endure this."

Ms Ghani was appointed to a post at the Department for Transport in 2018, becoming the first female Muslim minister to speak in the Commons.

She lost that job in a mini-reshuffle of Mr Johnson's government in February 2020.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Ms Ghani said that when she asked for an explanation, a government whip had told her that "Muslimness was raised as an issue" during discussions about the reshuffle, and her status as a "Muslim woman... was making colleagues uncomfortable".

The Wealden MP is quoted as saying she dropped the matter after being told that if she "persisted" in asking about it she "would be ostracised and her career and reputation would be destroyed".

"I raised it several more times through official party channels.... I was extremely careful to follow procedure, and when the procedure ran out of road I had no choice but to get on with my career."

Speaking to the BBC's Sunday Morning programme, Justice Secretary Dominic Raab said her allegations were "very serious" but there would not be a formal investigation unless Ms Ghani made a formal complaint.

Army veteran Tom Tugendhat becomes first Tory MP to say he wants to succeed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and reveals 'it would be a huge privilege' to run the country

Army veteran Tom Tugendhat becomes first Tory MP to say he wants to succeed Boris Johnson

Army veteran Tom Tugendhat has become the first Tory MP to announce that he wants to succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister.

The Conservative chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee said 'it would be a huge privilege' to run the country and revealed he would mount a campaign in the event of a leadership race because 'it's up to all of us to put ourselves forward'. Centrist Tories are reportedly backing the ex-soldier to succeed Mr Johnson as the PM faces the threat of an imminent no-confidence vote while awaiting the results of Sue Gray's report into the 'Partygate' drama gripping Westminster.

Some backbenchers believe that Mr Tugendhat, a foreign policy hawk who wants Britain to be much tougher on China and Russia and has criticised the Government's handling of the Afghanistan crisis last year, represents the 'best chance for a fresh start'. Though he has been a Member of Parliament for seven years, he has no ministerial experience, having been denied any promotion by his longstanding foe Mr Johnson. And his support for the Remain campaign in the EU referendum could prove to be an obstacle between him and leadership of the Eurosceptic post-2016 Conservative Party.

No room for truth in there eh. Good on him.

Showing that government is a farce there too, just with more wordy words.

It's weird to see. This country prided itself on being a superpower punching above its weight. Now it seems like a has been.

The farce of having a blatant liar as a leader, arguing with the opposition leader about his failure to prosecute Jimmy Saville when the opposition leader worked as a prosecutor. The prime minster's half hearted attempts at appearing strong against Putin by sending 3000 troops to Ukraine. Being accused of being pu55y whipped by his wife.

This really is like the Roman empire's decline.

The p**** whipped by his wife things a facade there's no way a sociopath narcissist like this is whipped by anybody. It's all part of the poor bumbling Boris. And beating her to the smear so that after the relationship when she reveals what an abusive POS he is no one will believe it because she had him whipped remember?

We've got a head of police that presides over what is now becoming known as an openly corrupt, full of deviants and racist police.

It's like - don't sack any prominent white person (or their stooges), regardless of what they've done.
