Guest Posted April 10, 2005 Report Share Posted April 10, 2005 Buddha Dal Refuses to hand over Gurdwara to SGPC Sunday 10th April, 2005 Anoop Singh - Panthic Weekly Staff Kotkapura (KP) - Buddha Dal Jathedar, Baba Santa Singh Nihang said in a press conference on Monday here in Kotkapura, Faridkot district, that the management of the historic Sikh shrine, Gurdwara Patshahi Dasvin, would not be handed over the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Meanwhile, Bibi Jagir Kaur commented on Thursday that the SGPC would take over the historic Gurdwara within a couple of days as per the Supreme Court order. Nihangs of Baba Santa Singh's Buddha Dal gathered in large numbers at the Gurdwara to protect the shrine from SGPC workers. Earlier, a few months ago a SGPC team and hundreds of Nihangs came face to face on the issue, when the committee tried to take over the control. However, the SGPC team had to return at that time. Talking on behalf of Santa Singh Nihang, Jathedar Dyal Singh said that the Nihangs would even sacrifice there lives to protect the Gurdwara. Armed with Sikh traditional and modern weapons, the Nihangs stood ready as the media persons attended the conference. The historic Gurdwara is related to the Tenth Guru Sahib, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Interestingly, the beautiful building of the Gurdwara was created at the times of the last ruler of Faridkot, Maharaja Harinder Singh Brar. He also gave 100 acres land that was attached to the Gurdwara. At that time, Mahant Rattan Singh used to control the Gurdwara. However, as the Gurdwara Reform Movement started, the Mahants were removed from Sikh historic shrines. After that the control of the Gurdwara went to Buddha Dal Nihangs. But, the court orders went in favor of SGPC, the body that controls all major Sikh historic shrines. Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the Nihangs had about 700 acres of land belonging to the SGPC under their control.
