Meditation - My Experiance, Am I Allowed To Share?

Recommended Posts

Am sitting here at work and my mind feels really still and stable. When I close my eyes and just internally jap I can feel this kind of void forming in my chest, very difficult to explain. It's a very deep sensation and the most soothing feeling I've ever experienced. The tranquility seems really blissful. Really wish I wasn't at work right now and I could just close my eyes and just sit there in this dark cave like place.

Was just sitting relaxed on the sofa, mind was feeling real still with hardly any thoughts, just breathing slowly. Closed my eyes and looked straight ahead. Next thing I know the darkness is replaced with bright green light. Was much more prominent in the left eye. Never seen such a strong green colour in the darkness like that before.

Have come to Sidh Gost on Ang 938 by Guru Nanak Dev ji. Loads of tips in this bani.. Love it

The world-ocean is treacherous and impassable; how can one cross over?

dunee-aa saagar dutar kahee-ai ki-o kar paa-ee-ai paaro.

The lotus flower floats untouched upon the surface of the water, and the duck swims through the stream;

jaisay jal meh kamal niraalam murgaa-ee nai saanay.

with one`s consciousness focused on the Word of the Shabad, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. O Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

surat sabad bhav saagar taree-ai naanak naam vakhaanay.

One who lives alone, as a hermit, enshrining the One Lord in his mind, remaining unaffected by hope in the midst of hope,

raheh ikaaNt ayko man vasi-aa aasaa maahi niraaso.

Don`t be angry with us - please tell us: How can we find the Guru`s Door?"

ros na keejai utar deejai ki-o paa-ee-ai gur du-aaro.

This fickle mind sits in its true home, O Nanak, through the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ih man chalta-o sach ghar baisai naanak naam aDhaaro.

Ang 939

In the stores and on the road, do not sleep; do not let your consciousness covet anyone else`s home. (Do not let your mind sleep i.e. think about anything else. Keep it locked on the naam)

haatee baatee need na aavai par ghar chit na dolaa-ee.

Without the Name, the mind has no firm support; O Nanak, this hunger never departs.

bin naavai man tayk na tik-ee naanak bhookh na jaa-ee.

The Guru has revealed the stores and the city within the home of my own heart, where I intuitively carry on the true trade (Gurmantar/Naam).

haat patan ghar guroo dikhaa-i-aa sehjay sach vaapaaro.

Sleep little, and eat little; O Nanak, this is the essence of wisdom.

khandit nidraa alap ahaaraN naanak tat beechaaro.

Nanak speaks: the Gurmukh understands; this is the way that Yoga is attained.

naanak bolai gurmukh boojhai jog jugat iv paa-ee-ai.

Let constant absorption in the Word of the Shabad deep within be your ear-rings; eradicate egotism and attachment.

antar sabad nirantar mudraa ha-umai mamtaa door karee.

Discard sexual desire, anger and egotism, and through the Word of the Guru`s Shabad, attain true understanding.

kaam kroDh ahaNkaar nivaarai gur kai sabad so samajh paree.

For your patched coat and begging bowl, see the Lord God pervading and permeating everywhere; O Nanak, the One Lord will carry you across.

khinthaa jholee bharipur rahi-aa naanak taarai ayk haree.

Let your mind turn away in detachment from the world, and let this be your begging bowl. Let the lessons of the five elements be your cap.

ooNDha-o khapar panch bhoo topee.

Let the body be your meditation mat, and the mind your loin cloth.

kaaN-i-aa karhaasan man jaagotee.

Let truth, contentment and self-discipline be your companions.

sat santokh sanjam hai naal.

O Nanak, the Gurmukh dwells on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

naanak gurmukh naam samaal.

Ang 940

Born into the House of the True Guru, my wandering in reincarnation ended.

My mind is attached and attuned to the unstruck sound current.

Through the Word of the Shabad, my hopes and desires have been burnt away.

As Gurmukh, I found the Light deep within the nucleus of my self.

Through the Word of the Guru`s Shabad, egotism and corruption are conquered, and then one comes to dwell in the home of the self within.

One who realizes the Shabad of the One who created the creation - Nanak is his slave.

He alone is a Yogi, who realizes the Word of the Guru`s Shabad; the lotus of the heart blossoms forth within.

so jogee gur sabad pachhaanai antar kamal pargaas thee-aa.

If one remains dead while yet alive, then he understands everything; he knows the Lord deep within himself, who is kind and compassionate to all.

O Nanak, he is blessed with glorious greatness; he realizes himself in all beings.

naanak taa ka-o milai vadaa-ee aap pachhaanai sarab jee-aa.

We emerge from Truth, and merge into Truth again. The pure being merges into the One True Lord.

Ang 941

One who is filled with the Word of the Guru`s Shabad enshrines love for the Lord.

gur kai sabad rapai rang laa-ay.

Attuned to the Truth, he goes to his home with honor.

saach rata-o pat si-o ghar jaa-ay.

Without the True Word of the Shabad, no one receives honor.

O Nanak, without the Name, how can one be absorbed in Truth?

naanak bin naavai ki-o saach samaavai.

One who remains dead while yet alive, through the Word of the Guru`s Shabad, finds the door of liberation.

I was reading the following pangti's on Ang 834 and it reminded me of this guidance I once heard.

Only the Creator Lord Himself knows the state and condition of everyone; the Lord Himself makes all the arrangements.

har gat mit kartaa aapay jaanai sabh biDh har har aap bana-ee-aa.

The treasure of jewels is found in the ocean of the Guru`s Teachings. The treasure of devotional worship is opened to me.

This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence.

The priceless jewel of the Naam becomes manifest, and it pours into their vessels of love.

Become the slave of the slave of the slave, of that humble being who has become the devotee of the Lord.

I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru`s Grace, I speak the Unspoken.

The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire.

manmukh maa-i-aa mohi vi-aapay ih man tarisnaa jalat tikha-ee-aa.

Following the Guru`s Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru`s Shabad

has put it out.

gurmat naam amrit jal paa-i-aa agan bujhee gur sabad bujha-ee-aa.

This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody of the horn.

ih man naachai satgur aagai anhad sabad Dhun toor vaja-ee-aa.

The instruction went something along the lines:

Think of the mind as field and the weeds are your thoughts. Your job is simply to use the Gurmantar as the folk and your breath the action of pushing the folk in and out. Keep digging out those weeds and clean the field and keep it weed free. The seeds of the anhad shabad which Waheguru has already planted within you just needs to be given the opportunity to sprout. Like a farmer tending to his field everyday you must also do this as much as possible.

This is more like it:

Ang 955 by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

Make the Fear of God the farm, purity the water, truth and contentment the cows and bulls,

bha-o bhu-ay pavit paanee sat santokh balayd.

humility the plow, consciousness the plowman, remembrance the preparation of the soil, and union with the Lord the planting time.

hal halaymee haalee chit chaytaa vatar vakhat sanjog.

Let the Lord`s Name be the seed, and His Forgiving Grace the harvest. Do this, and the whole world will seem false.

naa-o beej bakhsees bohal dunee-aa sagal darog.

O Nanak, if He bestows His Merciful Glance of Grace, then all your separation will be ended.

naanak nadree karam ho-ay jaaveh sagal vijog.

I doubt if this is related to simran/meditation but I've recently noticed that my blood pressure and gone on the low side. I actually got the machine to test the Mrs pressure. Her's turned out to be normal but mine was low... I've read meditation can help lower blood pressure which is probable if one has high bp, but what if one was already normal should you expect it to lower in that situation?

According to the site http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/BloodPressureandyou/Thebasics/Bloodpressurechart

An ideal reading should be between 120/80 and 90/60

  • if your top number is 140 or more - then you may have high blood pressure, regardless of your bottom number.
  • if your bottom number is 90 or more - then you may have high blood pressure, regardless your top number.
  • if your top number is 90 or less - then you may have low blood pressure, regardless of your bottom number.
  • if your bottom number is 60 or less - then you may have low blood pressure, regardless of your top number.

I'm getting readings of 110-120 on the upper number but in the low 50s for the bottom number.

I believe that Nanak ji is not recommending or suggesting the nostril practice.

The balance and steadiness can be obtained with normal 2 way nostril breathing!

Well, I wouldn't say that I have the same impression any longer !

I firmly believe that these jugtees and techniques can help us all.-as longer as we keep it within gurmat boundaries.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss such breathing techniques as it's entirely up to the individual to decide whether to try and use a technique or not. I recently browsed through another book by Sant Baba Waryam Singh where they explained another breathing/simran technique and even taught it as part of the Amrit Sanchar to amrit takers.

Divine Word Contemplation Path:
http://www.ratwarasahib.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=62&Itemid=94

Read from pages 431.

On page 436

We have instructed the 'Panj Piaras' (Five Beloved Ones) to give the lesson once to the 'amrit-takers'. If they are interested and inclined, they will start following this path. If they are not interested, it is their own sweet will. 'Amrit' is administered for this very purpose; brother, you have received the gift of the Name, now practice it.

I believe there must be some benefit in these method's otherwise they wouldn't have wasted their time mentioning it.

I think there are two schools of thought prevalent with regards to these practices. The Scholars view and the Bandigi Wale view. Those who want to progress just get on with it... Edited by Sat1176

It's all about trying to keep your focus ''Within' yourself to keep the dhian on simran.

Yoga techniques can help in this sense by letting you use the gurmantar, dhian and listening to all the 'Within' that happens inside you.,,,

The translation of the Shabad is incorrect in my view. Instead of being an indication towards usage of Pranayama the Shabad actually is a warning and a comment that pranayama can not lead you to union with Waheguru.

To understand the import of the Shabad one has to see that the Rahao lines are always the main theme and from them one can find out whats the correct Bhaav of the Shabad. The Rahao lines are:

ਮੂੜੇ ਕਾਇਚੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ॥ ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Oh fool why are you lost into this bharam (of pranayama)? By this way you have not realised (cheeneya) the Parmanand (Waheguru) by becoming a true bairagee.

Some points:

1. The lines have been addressed to a so called bairagi who has given up societal living and has spent time doing practices such as pranayama and other yogic techniques but has not been able to realize Waheguru yet.

2. There is a strong reprimand that the addressee has been indulging in something futle (which from the context one can see to be as pranayama).

3. It is also clearn that the way addressee has been going, on that way Parmanand cannot be cheeneya jaye (experienced or realized).

So what is the final word of Guru ji in this Shabad? It is in this line:

ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੋ, ਰਵੈ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੋ, ਮਨ ਪਵਨ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥

Sayeth Nanak Jan, if you remember the Hari in your mind, the mind shall drink Amrit along with Pawan (every breath/prana movement)

Some points:

1. The way to meet Waheguru according to Guruji is 'To Remember Waheguru within the Mind'.

2. If this is done, the mind shal drink Amrit with every pawan, every breath. This is indicating towards Swaas Swaas Simran, remembering Waheguru with every breath. This is the Bhagti Maarg! Remember Waheguru!

Here is a translation:

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਸੂਰ ਸਰੁ ਸੋਸਿ ਲੈ, ਸੋਮ ਸਰੁ ਪੋਖਿ ਲੈ, ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਰਤੁ, ਸੁ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

Dry up the surya Saru/pond (fiery nature), fill up the moon pond(cool/shaant nature), with the Jugti (Swas swas simran, as pointed out in the final line) kill your ego, and this way establish a relationship with Waheguru

With the Jugti (swas swas simran) the fish like movement of mind is stopped, the soul shall not fly away from Waheguru and the body shall not be ravaged by desires.

O fool why do you loose yourself in delusion (of pranayama)? You have not experience the Parmanand (Waheguru) by being a true Bairagee.

(With the same Jugti) catch and burn the unburnable, catch and kill the deathless, leave aside all doubts, then you shall drink the Amrit.

--as above--

Sayeth Nanak Jan, if you remember the Hari with (all) your mind, the mind shall drink Amrit along with Pawan (every breath/prana movement, swaas swaas simran)

--as above--

Lastly I feel that this does not mean pranayama is something we should all run away from as being a sin. Its just that Guru Nanak's Bhagti Marg is Swas Swas simran and that Waheguru cannot be met by breath control. He can be met by Apaa Varna ( sacrificing oneself completely), by remembring Him all the time , every moment, and this is done through every Swaas.

There is no point of taking breath if you are not reciting vahiguroo from gurmat shabad surat point of view but gurmat does not reject technique that attuning your mind towards breath is one of techniques as mind is totally connected with breath, one can hold its breath for 10 secs, one can notice mind is attuned in the breath for 10 secs...gurmat reject the mindset who wrap their head around it and think this is final aim. Anyway, these are just small techniques, gurmat provides cautions to practitioners stop wrap their head around them hence the above shabad...gurmat aim is provide individual full process towards liberation in stages- bhagti- sharda/prem//seva/gurbani satkar towards guru sahib, and use shabad surat to go in internally and after internally after dhyan turns into smadhi- gyan- nirvakalp samadhi- going towards atma-paratma milaap/self realization where there is nothing but advait sat chit anand saroop neither parnayam nor shabad surat- dasam dwar (shabad cease to exit only thing stages of nirgun-sargun gyan of shabad) third eye is our final destination they are only meant to be reference points in our journey not final destination.

Waheguru

Just wanted to add an important note to this stage. DO NOT LOOK at this colour, simply open the eyes and the colour we disappear. My mind is entering the stage of illusion to draw me in and distract me so to hinder the progress.

May Waheguru guide us all safely to his lotus feet.

I doubt if this is related to simran/meditation but I've recently noticed that my blood pressure and gone on the low side

Sat it is most definitely because you are relaxing the body so much in meditation. Lowered BP doesn't matter as long as there aren't any negative effects to your health/routine ie if you can function fine, you are fine. Thus no need to worry (well unless you want your BP to rise again then worrying will do that well :D).

I believe that Nanak ji is not recommending or suggesting the nostril practice.

Lucky, in fact, He is suggesting this, as do other authors of SGGS like Sant Kabir, who also recommends breath control.

normal 2 way nostril breathing

The "normal 2 way nostril breathing" usually never happens since normally one of our nostrils is closed or obstructed and we are breathing through the other most of the time. The above mentioned practice helps to open up the both nostrils making breathing a bit easier and more balanced.

Sat if you had to do that then you were already distracted. Now if you feel like you need to do restart then that's fine, open your eyes, make it go away and restart. But you can also try to let it be there whilst you continue to focus on the mantra and practice being completely nonreactive to such distractions whilst being in their presence.

Now you say it is just a stage of illusion, have you studied it? is that a conclusion from knowing it? If not then to study it, what you can also do is when you start to meditate, right from the beginning have the intention of focusing on the green, and then when the green is there focus in on it, completely. Get it to know it.

Play around with different things. It's all just play anyways.

Due to my lack of experience in this stage of simran I sought guidance which I really don't want to elaborate upon on the internet.

But from the limited understanding I have gained these colours appear when the mind tries to cross the trikuti and the 5 elements.

Air - Green

Water - White

Fire - Red

Earth - Yellow

Ether/Space - Blue

During these stages one can come into contact with visions/forms etc which try and draw in the seeker to hinder the progress. It is not advisable to interact which such things. Our goal is to meet Waheguru nothing else no matter how attractive it may seem. That's what I been told and try to convince myself off along the way. Anyone can do what they wish but I believe if a person seeks guidance and you have faith/satkar for the person's experience and wisdom in such matters then you should follow their bachan's. I have been instructed not to look at it, so will not until instructed otherwise. Because in an earlier post I had wrote about the experience, being none the wiser I posted it. Now I know a little more I think it only right I clear up the mess so I don't lead someone astray. I'll be honest I will be reluctant to post personal experiences going forward, because I have no idea where i'm heading or what comes along the way. I don't want to be responsible for misleading people on a path which I'm not sure myself.

Bhagat Singh ji, from your posts I can tell your much further along and am grateful that you came on the thread with your views and words of encouragement even when I was doubting or questioning my own experiences. They have been reconfirmed as real and my doubt's that kept on creeping back eliminated. All I can trust at this stage is the gurmantar and the anhad shabad. Will continue to focus my attention on those and hope they take me home and leave the rest to the will of WaheGuru...

May Waheguru guide us all safely and correctly to his lotus feet.

As for the low BP I am feeling the effects in that my body sometimes feels very weak and tired. Could be due to the weight I seem to be putting on. I will monitor the situation and if it persists then I will visit the GP. But with his grace I hope the simran continues till it reaches the conclusion.... Naam di dhaat from Waheguru himself. (What ever form that may be...)

Just read the following shabad on Ang 1002. Guru Arjan Dev Ji reached the final destination...

I have quit searching outside; the Guru has shown me that God is within the home of my own heart.

baahar dhoodhan tay chhoot paray gur ghar hee maahi dikhaa-i-aa thaa.

I have seen God, fearless, of wondrous beauty; my mind shall never leave Him to go anywhere else.

anbha-o achraj roop parabh paykhi-aa mayraa man chhod na kathoo jaa-i-aa thaa.

I have found the jewel; I have found the Perfect Lord.

maanak paa-i-o ray paa-i-o har pooraa paa-i-aa thaa.

The invaluable value cannot be obtained; in His Mercy, the Guru bestows it. Pause

mol amol na paa-i-aa jaa-ee kar kirpaa guroo divaa-i-aa thaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.

The Supreme Lord God is imperceptible and unfathomable; meeting the Holy Saint, I speak the Unspoken Speech.

adisat agochar paarbarahm mil saaDhoo akath kathaa-i-aa thaa.

The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates and resounds in the Tenth Gate; the Ambrosial Naam trickles down there.

anhad sabad dasam du-aar vaji-o tah amrit naam chu-aa-i-aa thaa.

I lack nothing; the thirsty desires of my mind are satisfied. The inexhaustible treasure has entered into my being.

tot naahee man tarisnaa boojhee akhut bhandaar samaa-i-aa thaa.

I serve the feet, the feet, the feet of the Guru, and manage the unmanageable. I have found the juice, the sublime essence.

charan charan charan gur sayvay agharh gharhi-o ras paa-i-aa thaa.

Intuitively I come, and intuively I go; my mind intuitively plays.

sehjay aavaa sehjay jaavaa sehjay man khaylaa-i-aa thaa.

Says Nanak, when the Guru drives out doubt, then the soul-bride enters the Mansion of the Lord`s Presence.

kaho naanak bharam gur kho-i-aa taa har mahlee mahal paa-i-aa thaa.

WaheGuru
