Attune yourself to the Name of the Lord night and day O Nanak,  and you shall be absorbed into the Name.

Hey, soul: your only Support is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

  3. THE PREGNANT DEER - such a beautiful story ! In a forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth. She finds a remote grass field near a strong-flowing river. This seems a safe place. Suddenly labour pains begin. At the same moment, dark clouds gather around above & lightning starts a forest fire. She looks to her left & sees a hunter with his bow extended pointing at her. To her right, she spots a hungry lion approaching her. What can the pregnant deer do? She is in labour! What will happen? Will the deer survive? Will she give birth to a fawn? Will the fawn survive? Or will everything be burnt by the forest fire? Will she perish to the hunters' arrow? Will she die a horrible death at the hands of the hungry lion approaching her? She is constrained by the fire on the one side & the flowing river on the other & boxed in by her natural predators. What does she do? She focuses on giving birth to a new life. The sequence of events that follows are: - Lightning strikes & blinds the hunter. - He releases the arrow which zips past the deer & strikes the hungry lion. - It starts to rain heavily, & the forest fire is slowly doused by the rain. - The deer gives birth to a healthy fawn. In our life too, there are moments of choice when we are confronted on αll sides with negative thoughts and possibilities. Some thoughts are so powerful that they overcome us & overwhelm us. Maybe we can learn from the deer. The priority of the deer, in that given moment, was simply to give birth to a baby. The rest was not in her hands & any action or reaction that changed her focus would have likely resulted in death or disaster. Ask yourself, Where is your focus? Where is your faith and hope? In the midst of any storm, do keep it on God always. He will never ever dissapoint you. NEVER. Remember, GOD neither slumbers nor sleeps..
  4. It is a totally wrong saying, that Sikhs believe that both good and evil come from God. To simplify things, it is more than sufficient to say that : evil comes/arises from mind alone. All beings have mind, including devis, devtays, gods, etc...so at some time or another, imperfections can happen and do happen. It is only Bhagat Jan, Sant Jan, Guru Sahiban, who having attached themselves to His Lotus Feet through His bhakti, thus have crossed the realms of maya, mun, time, space, means the transient and perishable realms of koor, and have merged and become one with the Ooch Apaar Beant Waheguru Akal Purukh. He is known as Sat Purukh, means ultimate and Highest Truth. This Truth never decays, nor suffers any changes nor alterations, and is an infinite ocean of mercy, love, bliss, and Consciousness, which is totally opposed to evil. So you see, that the concept of the belief by sikhs that good and evil coming from God, is baseless. Both are opposite poles. Moreover, it could well be said, the lacking of good God, can be the cause of any evil, not otherwise. Finally, do not just believe any nonsense the ignorant may spread, that too, again by not associating oneself the Omniscient Waheguru, or His Gurmukhs, Sant Jan, Guru Sahiban, through Gurbani. Stay blessed. SSA.
  5. Well done Bro. Keep up with your spiritual practices, so to be more receptive to His beant grace, for it is by His grace alone, that we reach His Darbar. It is all His grace. By His grace we get attracted towards Him and do spiritual practice, namely Bhakti, then again by doing His bhakti, we widely open our jholee to receive His grace more abundantly. You see, any progress comes with efforts, but then, efforts are also possible by His grace alone. So ultimately, it is all His grace. Stay blessed. SSA.
  6. If one wants to get success in any practice, will power and repetition are the tools to use for it. So too, to keep Nam simran in mind, the best way is to do is, as said by Guru Jee: Saas Saas SIMROH GOBIND. SSA.
  7. The knowledge of the scientists is limited to the material. Waheguru is imperceptible to the 5 gyan indriyan or the 5 karam indriyan, also, is beyond the realms of mind and maya, time, space, which are subtler than matter, yet we believe Wahegru exists. As per the principle of of science, as Waheguru is not seen and not reached by reason, His existence should be discarded. There are no such devices nor instruments to decipher the existence of Waheguru. The knowledge of Waheguru, can be had only from Gurmukhs, Bhagat Jan and of course Guru Sahiban, as they all come from that realm, which is the very home and permanent residence of Waheguru Akal Purukh, namely Sach Khand. The science which teaches us and enables us to reveal the existence of that One Supreme Primal Being, Waheguru Akal Purukh or Satnam, is called Sikhee. The jugtee is Nam Simran. Through it, we pierce and tear apart the subtle layer of mind and maya, and we penetrate into the real of pure spirituality Parbraham and proceed further to the only Truest and Supreme Being Waheguru, in His Shabad swaroop or form. He is Aad sach, jugaad Sach, hae bhee Sach, Nanak hosee bhee Sach. To reach Him, we need to board on the vessel of Nam : Nanak, Naam jahaaz hae, jinee chareeya, se utareeya paar. Those who borad on the plane of Nam, get crossed over, from the transient and perishable realms of untruth , to the the one of eternity and changelessness, Satnam. Moreover Gurbani tells us: Jin Har japeeya, se Har hoeeya. He who chants His Name, becomes Him. This is the highest truth in simple words. Through His jaap, we remove all the coverings which keep us prisoners in the mayavee realms, then once the soul gains its original consciousness of being a drop, a ray, of Waheguru , returns back to its source with the aid of Shabad/Naam. Nothing comes out from nothing, so if the creation exists, we exist, the khands, the brahmands exist, then naturally there has to be a creator. To that primal Creator, Gurbani describes it as Ik Oankar, Karta Purukh, which means, One creator alone, the doer of everything, whether seen or unseen. That is the greatness of Guru Sahiban and the Bhagat Jan, who, by His Hukum come to awaken us, and share with us the inmensity and the majesty of that One Primal Supreme Being: Waheguru Akal Purukh. Words just fail to describe Him adecuately , His beant wadeeayee ... SSA
  8. By Naam Simran, there are only benefits. And among them, the best are as the Bani says: Prabh ka simran mun kee mael jaae. By His simran, all our accumulated dirt since countless births is washed away, thus we become pure, paviter. After this step, then comes the second step as seen in the following verse. Prabh ka Simran garb na baseh. We are the freed from the unendable cycles of births and deaths, for it is then only that we merge in Waheguru Akal Purukh. SSA
  9. Do not let the mind confuse you. I think you are on the right track. So be happy. This state is a consequence of inner purity, which mainly is due to His kirpa. SSA.

  11. My favourite Shabad/Bani to be read for the passing away ,or the ones alive yet, and one day have to pass away, is Dukh Bhanjan Sahib. This Bani in particular, reminds us of the only One Supreme and eternal Truth, Wahiguru Akal Purukh and His Nao, the one remedy for all maladies created by the mind, which make us incurr in karmas, thus keep us prisoners in the mayavee creation. Following are just a few lines from the begining of this Bani of Dukh Bhanja Sahib, where, if paid proper attention, we can see that it contains the summary of true plain spirituality, that also in simple words. The Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name, Lord; the Destroyer of sorrow is Your Name. Twenty-four hours a day, dwell upon the wisdom of the Perfect True Guru. That heart, in which the Supreme Lord God abides, is the most beautiful place. The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord with the tongue. || Sat Sree Akal.
  12. Would like to share some beautiful and precious words of Fifth Patshahee on this topic from His paviter Bani of Asa Ki Vaar: ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਉ ॥੨॥ Naanak Jinh Man Bho Thinhaa Man Bhaao ||2|| नानक जिन्ह मनि भउ तिन्हा मनि भाउ ॥ O Nanak, those whose minds are filled with the Fear of God, have the love of God in their minds as well. SSA
Jeearae Oulhaa Naam Kaa || Hey, soul: your only Support is the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Avar J Karan Karaavano Thin Mehi Bho Hai Jaam Kaa ||1|| Rehaao || Whatever else you do or make happen, the fear of death still hangs over you. Avar Jathan Nehee Paaeeai || He is not obtained by any other efforts. Vaddai Bhaag Har Dhhiaaeeai ||1|| By great good fortune, meditate on the Lord. Laakh Hikamathee Jaaneeai || You may know hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, Aagai Thil Nehee Maaneeai ||2|| But not even one will be of any use at all hereafter. Ahanbudhh Karam Kamaavanae || Good deeds done in the pride of ego are swept away, Grih Baaloo Neer Behaavanae ||3|| Like the house of sand by water. Prabh Kirapaal Kirapaa Karai || When God the Merciful shows His Mercy, Naam Naanak Saadhhoo Sang Milai ||4||4||142|| Nanak receives the Naam in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||4||4||142|| We all look to be better human beings and return in our origiin Waheguru. In this beautiful Shabad of Fifth Patshahee, the secret of that our desire to merge in Him truly is described in simple words with full clarity. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  14. Nobody is free from vices for it is something in our minds which we have within ourselves, and we can not get rid of them, as long as we are in the realms of mind and maya. These thieves usually rob us, without any notifications. And I myeself, I am a champion full of vices, so I know how much one suffers under their undesired effects. My only intention by posting in this thread, is because as said I have been under their bad effects, so I do not want others to go through it, and by His grace, I have understood and realized that, it is only by engaging in His bhakti, one can be on the safe side. It is not even by not wanting these vices, or in lesser amount, that one can rid oneself from them, for they are planted within our very minds, and the job of the mind is to keep us enslaved here in this mayavee creation Moderation to control vices, is not like having a TV remote control, to lower to higher the volume. For this is something from within. Who knows when will be our last breath? And in His court not even as little of a penny can go with us of these vices if we have it, so what to say about having a hundred pound note of them. The question is not of having little or much, for it is something out of our control as seen above. The question is of having, or not having, for some drops of poison, if not the full bottle, yet it is poison, and it will surely be harmful. On the other side if we sincerely do His bhakti, with His grace, one will overcome them, though unconscioussly, and being imbued with His virtues which means being alert and strong, or having His Light brighter and brighter within us, these demons will not even come near us. Al that, once again is not by our efforts, but by His apaar kirpa, when we do His bhakti lovingly focused on Him, just as baby child to his/her mother, which keeps us safe from all dangers That much only.. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  15. Very much interesting questions above LiquidSky Jee, Motivation does not need necessarily to be emotional. Emotions, reactions are in the mind, not in the soul. Good karmas are necessary for our spiritual progress by drawing grace from Him. So good karmas are necessary that much to bring us closer to Him, they are like walking on a road with Light, where you know which direction to take towards your goal, on the contrary, if one incurrs in bad karmas, due to mtions or vices, one turna away one´s facefrom the light and falls into the well of darkness. But then having the chance to walk and reach destination with Light, why turn our faces from it and fall into darkness due to ignorance of the mind and all that emerges from it? Maybe there is a confusion of what the mind is, which is limited and really not our real self. We are so much related to the frame of our body in which the mind works with all its vikars blindly , that we take it be our real self. The teachings in all rligious scriptures refer to our soul as our real self which is eternal, not the mind nor the body, which are perishable. If we do not first realize our true self as soul, clouded by the mind, how can we ever realize the universal Parmatma? There is no such tool, device or technology created by the human mind, through which we can know our self nor the ultimate Self, Parmatma. We do not acknowlege our mother or father, by our emotions, isn´t it? But by direct perception and association with them. in a similar way, Guru Sahiban tell us, He Waheguru is Light(Jot), Light is not perceived by emotions again, nor there is any need for them, and in order to perceive that Light, we have to just be receptive and open our eyes, only that much. Bhakti/Love/Prem/Devotion is the need for the soul as an vehicle, to realize and reach Waheguru, which is a transcendetal changeless and eternal reality beyond any emotions, for as said, emotions exist in the mind, and we have to eliminate or cross the limits of the mind(braham) in order to reach our goal Waheguru (Parbraham). Bhakti is to surrender oneself, or better said, become mindless. Emtions and thoughts arise from the mind and at most can take you only up to mental subtle spheres, but it is His Love as a blessing in the form of Bhakti which takes the atma or self to Parmatma, and that too, not remain as an individual there, but merge and become one with Him as He Himself, as Nam or Shabad, for in Sach Khand only Nirankar exists. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  16. LiquidSky Jee, the 5 vices are all responsible for keeping us prisoners in this mayavee creation, for they make us incurr in bad karma always. They are subtle diseases, or invisble theives. They poison our minds, weaken our will power, and as said, under their influence, only bad karmas happen. You say krodh can drive us to seek justice, but sorry to say, that is not justice, that is called revenge. Justice is delivered by a judge, but have we ever seen a judge in anger? Justice can only be administered with a cool and clear mind, while anger blinds our chit, then naturally, disasters are for sure to happen. Kaam is not only sex for proreation, Kaam in reality means desire for self gratification, for which many fall or degrade themselves to animal /beast levels. Ahankar, is being arrogant, and arrogant people are usually discriminative, and to maintain their ego or pride, again they need to do bad karam, whether verbally or through action by abusing others. Lobh always wants us have more than others, even snatch what belong to others, and a person under the effects of lobh can go to any extent of cheating. Moh is attachment, and attachment to anything here, is holding on strongly to trash. Moh to properties brings yoou back as a ghost, moh to money will make you come back as snake an so on...the thing is, each of the 5 thieves, pulls us back into the perishable creation in the wheel of 84. These thieves are so powerful that even gods, devis, devtays are not free from them, so what to say about us ordinary human beings. One can surely exist without having to be under their negative influence, and the very image of this real possibility, are our Guru Sahiban, the Bhagat Jan, and the Gurmukhs, who have a mindless nature, thus they are the masters of their will power; mind and the vikars just are helpless against them. Just have a check at their lives when they blessed us with their presence whilst among us. In them, fully shines the Light of Waheguru, so they are an example for all sikhs and all of the humanity, as per how to stay alert and clean in this world, as well in the subtle planes of consciousness. Sharing the following piece of information regarding the topic in this thread which I found on the net: The five evils, lust, wrath, greed, attachment and egoity, flourish on the soil of the belief in one's individualized existence. By destroying the doctrine of one's own existence or the belief in one's individual reality, the sages (sant, sadh) cancel in one stroke, as it were, the entire catalogue of evils. Desire, anger, avarice, infatuation, egoism, passion, jealousy, hypocrisy, pride, deception, falsehood, violence, doubt, and nescience and other forms of depravity listed in the Guru Granth Sahib do not affect they who have overcome themselves and found their essence in God's reality. Liberation (mukti) means the extinction of all the evils headed by haumai. The Sikh canon also points to the way of extinguishing evils of all kinds. It is acknowledged that the five evils afflict all beings in sansar and that it is difficult to control them. Yet the possibility of conquering them is not ruled out in the theological framework of Sikhism; the moral training of a Sikh is in fact directed towards controlling the senses and eradicating the evils. The seeker of liberation has first to liberate themself of the yoke of the pentad, or the 5 vices. No headway can be made towards God-realization without discarding the cardinal evils. Kabir says, "He alone cherishes the Lord's feet who is rid of desire, wrath, greed and attachment" – "kamu krodhu lobhu mohu bibarjit haripadu chinai soi" (GG, 1123). Morover LiquidSky Jee, love for Guru Jee is not moh. Rather is a blessing by which one finds the gate of being liberated for ever and merging in that Supreme Truth, namely Waheguru. One may ask, how to differentiate a vice from a virtue? The vices as stated above, bind us here, while the virtues bring us closer to Waheguru, and among all virtues, bhakti or uncondtional love for Waheguru, is the only thing which frees us forever, and allows us to merge in Him. He, the One who is the embodiment of : Sach (Eternal Truth)- Chit(Omniscience or Supraconsciousness) - and Anand( peace and true permanent Bliss); and believe it, all this possible without mind, which is a barrier or hindrance in our spiritual advancement, with the 5 major vices and other sub-vices. Love for Guru Jee, is the only means for staying strong and pure, and also for our union with Him. That is why, the Bani can not be more clearer when it says: Saach kahoon sun lehoh sabhee Jin prem kiyo, tinhee Prabh paayo. This is the true efficient wisdom about what all spirituality is about, given to us by Guru Sahiban, that also, in just one verse of a few words. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  17. Start with understanding yourself first: True, your-self, is knowing you are the eternal soul, not the perishable body. Same in essence as the Creator Himself, just as a ray is related to the Sun or a drop to the Ocean. How can you relate to something which is infinite if you havent understood yourself: Agree also, only as said above, when we realize we are atma, can we go for Parmatma. The Five so-called "Vices" in Sikhi is your own Emotions, not "Bad Deeds": Here I disagree, vices are not emotions nor moods. Emotions by themselves, do not induce you to do bad deeds, but on the contrary, anyone, absolutely anyone under the influence of these vices or thieves, unmistakenly commit bad deeds or karmas, which take our self farther away from the divinity. On the contrary, virtues, make us do good karmas, which are essential to invoke His grace on us, and through that His apaar grace, we gradually get nearer and nearer to Him, for now we are consciouss of ourselves, that in order o merge in that Infinte Ocean of goodness, we have to also become free from our mind and become mindless, spotless, our real self as He Himself is. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  18. What is our true nature? Our true nature, is not our different bodies, but is our soul. And this soul is same in nature as Waheguru Akal Purukh, with the only difference that while He is like a Sun, and each soul is like a ray emanted from it; or even just as a drop from the Ocean. While He is Infinite, the soul below Parbrahm is coverd by the 3 bodies, and prisoner of the mind, which keeps the souls highly tied with the almost unbreakable chains of karmas. It is only by attaching ourselves first with the outer Gurbani, then within also with the Amrit Bani, that the soul gets released from the clutches of the mind and Kal by defeating them with the apaar kirpa of Waheguru. After that, the soul mounted in the vessel of Sat Shabad, merges into the Infinite Ocean of Prem, namely Waheguru Akal Purukh, and becoming one with Him without distinction. This is His beant wadeeayee. Sat Sree Akal.
  19. Yes for sure. Gurbani is the sweetest voice of God, who is Aad Guru. Sat Sree Akal.
  20. A SMALL TRIBUTE TO A MOTHER This is a truly BEAUTIFUL piece please read this at a slow pace, digesting every word at leisure...do not hurry....this is a treasure... For those lucky to still be blessed with your Mom, this is beautiful For those of us who aren't, this is even more beautiful. For those who are moms, you'll love this. The young Mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And the Guide said: "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning." But the young Mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them, and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this." Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and nothing can harm us." And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children," A little patience and we are there." So the children climbed, and when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have made it without you." And the Mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and said,"This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage. Today, I've given them strength." And the next day came strange clouds, which darkened the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the mother said: "Look up. Lift your eyes to the light." And the children looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the darkness. And that night the Mother said, "This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God." And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old and she was little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And when the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill, and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And Mother said,"I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their children after them." And the children said, "You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We cannot see her but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence......" Your Mother is always with you.... She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallised in every teardrop. She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can separate you.Not time, not space... not even death!
