paapiman got a reaction from GurjantGnostic in Alcohol - The Cursed Drink
Gurparsaad, Daas will check it out later.
Based on this Rehatnama (Bhai Desa Singh), it should not be a big surprise that one of the greatest warriors of the Misal period, Sardar Charat Singh Sukarchakia (grandfather of M.Ranjit Singh) was a heavy drinker. He probably got addicted to it.

@dalsingh101 @GurjantGnostic - Alcohol consumption has been allowed for Sikhs, before entering a battlefield. Other than that, it is strictly prohibited.
The below is from Bhai Desa Singh Rehatnama.
Please read the First line in the image below.

Quote
Baba Nand SIngh Ji declared from time to time that the Gurbani strictly prohibits the eating of meat, fish, eggs and all kinds of non-vegetarian foods.

Nah I think it was probably just a Panjabi cultural overspill into the panth.
Notice the following about Desa Singh:
Against eating fish or meat (line 25)
Very rigid on caste marriage (28/29)
Anti halal, hookah, cannabis resin (charas), tobacco, ganja and intoxicants in general. (30)
But then strangely goes on to say a strict Singh can take opium and bhang?? (31)
Also says jhatka'd goat is only meat allowed? (32)

But bro, Chatka's aim is to kill the animal as quickly as possible, in order to minimize the pain.
Killing all other animals swiftly, in order to reduce the pain, but no such mercy for fish - doesn't it seem odd - a non-Sikh might easily question this practice.
What is the source of your Nihang friend? There was even a Nihang Mahapurakh, who did not allow Singhs to eat fish, but he allowed Chatka of goats.
According to Nihang maryada (correct me, if wrong), one cannot even eat Chatka meat from shops, in addition to Halal meat. They can only eat Chatka meat, which is prepared according to maryada (washing the animal, reading Gurbanis, etc).

I'm doing a lot of reading tonight. lol
What's the footnote say about dhan-baazi? I notice this rahit tells rich Singhs to look after poor ones.

Here's an interesting hukam nama from Ashok's collection. If genuine, it seems that Guru ji was acquiring a small canon or bandook (ਤੁਪਕ)?

paapiman got a reaction from Soulfinder in Tinnitus
Quote
Tinnitus (pronounced tin-NY-tus or TIN-u-tus) is not a disease. It is a symptom that something is wrong in the auditory system, which includes the ear, the auditory nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain, and the parts of the brain that process sound. Something as simple as a piece of earwax blocking the ear canal can cause tinnitus. But it can also be the result of a number of health conditions, such as:
Noise-induced hearing loss Ear and sinus infections Diseases of the heart or blood vessels Ménière’s disease Brain tumors Hormonal changes in women Thyroid abnormalities Unquote[1]
