It's really interesting to understand a sub section of Dharam really thoroughly, like Ai Ki Do, the from the source version. Then discover this huge tree that is Sat Dharam. That you recognize the structure of because the branches you were schooled on follow the same natural structure as the rest of the tree, but that Tree is so much bigger than one Do. It's the home of all Dharam, Do and Tao and so much more.
Understanding any one Do enough, is a great introduction to Dharam and its' related cultures, ways, practices and etiquettes.
That is however simply opening the door. I have...an indescribable amount of training to do.... learning... earning... Ishnaan. When you're a stray, you're grateful to be taken in, but you still feel like a stray. So you stay humble, loyal, and grateful. What can one give to the Guru except everything? Just for a glimpse, let alone a SehajPath of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Sort of a tangent. But I've noticed two strengths of the ignorance of foreigners.
One. We're illiterate and can't speak the language and were not raised in the culture. So as we start to piece together the little bits of truth, take language for example, the few words we know are only the most important ones. And as we form a vocabulary of one, then ten, then seventy words, those words are the most essential. And our ignorance gives us focus and the language isn't cross connotatted by societal or everyday use. It only exists in our tiny Dharmic vocabulary. With only those meanings.
Second power of ignorance. Because we are ignorant of a lot of cultural and societal ways that grew alongside whatever the Dharam is, as we ignorantly grasp our way in, it takes a lot of dedication, and it takes a lot of dedication to learning about the ideal expressed by said Paath alone. So we can be very loyal to the ideal and free of cultural limitations or confusions that people birthed alongside said Dharam can have.
That being said. We have major obstacles of ignorance in language, history, cultural context, societal norms, traditions, thought processes. And it makes us like children at best for a long time and no matter how committed there is a level where we will exhaust ourselves trying to catch up with people born into it. Hence the Kirpa and Karam that was earned to be born into a Sikh family that I did not have.
When it comes to americans trying to learn how to be japanese I just tell them don't. Especially don't try too hard and be all simpy nerdy about it.  No matter how much you learn, you will never be proper by their standards, their culture is too advanced. All you can do is learn, love and appreciate everything you can about their culture, and be as proper as possible without stressing it too much and understand you will forever be a barbarian basically compared to how they operate.
When I first went to the Gurudwara here, I didn't know what to do, so I watched and followed, and referenced japanese etiquette for bowing to Maharaja etc as I saw people do, and left my pita, and knowing about sitting properly and meditating all helped a lot. You see all that in the most traditional Dojos. At that time I knew far far far less about Sikhi. But it was enough to be able to show up and be able to act halfway properly.
Lol. I sat there for like hours, not knowing how long it lasted for, before someone very kindly explained I was to eat Langar and come and go from Maharaja's pressence not just sit there all day.

Saito Sensei in Japan doesn't eat until he's done his bathing, morning prayers, meditation and weapons training in nature, and the uchi deshi usually do as well.
He says one of the reasons for this is to acustom the body to be able to wake and fight a battle with no food. He also says never eat more than 80 percent your fill, since battle can happen at any time and you can't fight on a fat feasted gut.
One of the times I went, there were a bunch of italians living and training there, and they insisted we eat...constantly..lol. So we uh..ate breakfast. That was nice too.  Heh.
I quickly learned what muskalatore male means in italian, experientially, however that's spelled.  Training was brutal lol.
Italians, no matter how big and tough, do like a good hug and cry for their mammas after eating dinner. It's kinda adorable, lol.

IMHO, that injunction means that one must not eat or drink, before you have completed reciting your Nitnem.

    Good Qs.
Amrit Vela as it is known in Sikhi & Brahm muhurtha in Hinduism. Everyone has different calculations.
In Hinduism / Ayurveda, Amrit Bela starts 1.5 hours before sunrise, lasts for 48 minutes and ends 48 minutes before it. Some say it starts 2 hours before sunrise. In either case it is essential to capture that sunrise window time.
    In Sikhi,
Days & Nights as divided into 8 pehrs (3hr duration each)are..
Times are true within a deviation of say ~15min.
3am-6am 4th pehr of night 6am-9am 1st pehr of day 9am-12pm 2nd pehr of day 12pm-3pm 3rd pehr of day 3pm-6pm 4th pehr of day 6pm-9pm 1st pehr of night 9pm-12pm 2nd pehr of night 12pm-3am 3rd pehr of night
Best sleeping times are considered to be 2nd & 3rd pehrs of night ie. 9pm-3am (Total 6 hours)
Amrit Vela is usually ascribed to 4th pehr of night, ie. 3am-6am.
If we go based on above calc, you need to find the sunset - sunrise time and divide by 8 and the last 4th pahar is ur Amrit Vela. This is the calc I use.
Waking up at 11 or midnight and doing Naam Jap until 2 am and back to sleep is not Amrit Vela. You need to continue into sunrise to hit the amrit vela time.
I suggest getting some sleep before starting Amrit Vela. After amrit vela is done you can sleep during the day. This is how most ppl do in India, who do service at Gurudwaras.
    Good Luck

Try this for 21 times,  do Ardas daily whenever you remember, wherever you are, whatever you are doing to Waheguru to help you.  It would work!

Pen Jee if one plays with fire, one should be consciouss that one can get burnt.
So both of you knew, that living in relationship does have the chances of getting pregnant.
And if you were confident and strong then, then be the same now and face whatever you have to, with dignity.
You may evade somehow the so called society, but have you ever thought of what face will you take when yamdoots or Dharam Rai  ask you for killing a life?
And there you will be all alone, nobody will stand beside you.
Have you ever thought of that?
You say you are a sikh woman, then, did you forget Waheguru is all omnipresent and was aware of this your relationship? If no shame then, what shame now?
See, what is done is done, do not get things worse by killing a life.
Marry ths man now, and let the people talk as much as they want, nothing lasts forever, it is your life, to the hell with the so called society.
What matters is your morality and self respect.
Believe it, having a child in one´s arms, is such a blessing, a most loving act, that no other relationship can be ever compared to it. So start making plans to have this baby by all means, and be grateful to Him for this blessing, of having a child.
Nothing happens just like that, the child has to come as it is so destined at a particular time, so please it is a benti, do not do anything which will make you incurr in heavy karma, and for which you alone will have to pay. Aapay beejeh aapay khaae.
Lastly, be bold, be strong and above all thankful to Him, there is no such thing compared in having a child.
It is one of the biggest blessings, which one can have.
    Stay blessed.
    Sat Sree Akal.

Try doing some Seva at a Gurudwara or somewhere else (local charities, homeless shelters, hospitals, etc).
Please do remember that the "Gurmukh Bird" has two wings - Seva and Simran.

Won't you be off in the summers? Then, you should be able to wake up at 2.00 am or so right?
Try doing the maximum amount of Naam Simran at Amritvela. Amritvela is the best time for Naam Simran.
Can't you try to sleep a little earlier? Even if you sleep at 9.30 pm, you should be able to wake up at 3.30 am. That's 6 hrs. of sleep. You can take another nap after Naam Simran. At first, it might be difficult for you to change your schedule, but your body will probably gradually get use to it.

Hello gurmuko, I need help. I have no motivation to progress in my spiritual path. I can’t do simran, I just can’t go and sit down except for 30 mins. Even doing my nitnem in the morning is very hard almost impossible. And it’s effecting my everyday life style. I don’t want to go back to how I used to be, because it used to be so draining. No motivation and no chao. Sometimes I think maybe I pushed myself to hard even though I had just begun my journey. And it’s all crashing down. It’s making me very sad that even having this knowledge of knowing that Kaal is doing all this I just don’t how make this stop and feel at peace again.

WJKK WJKF Veer ji you should do ardas or at least say the names of our Guru Sahib Ji before starting any simran or nitnem as it will help give you strength to do paath simran nitnem as nobody is as powerful as Waheguru so try to do ardas. Rest just try to listen to as much katha, kirtan etc as you can.

As dass suffers from migraines its not nice to have so i can imagine reading your posts and you must be feeling veer ji.

    Hello brother,
as long as we are in the mayavee planes, these types of phases of ups and downs, and turbulences will be happening time after time.
But as passengers / disciples of  the pilot Guru Jee, we should be thankful that we are sitting in the airplane of our life commanded by Him, so we should tell our minds to keep quite and stop hopping and trying to trouble us, for in no way we are going to get affected with its tricks and dramas, so it should sit down and be in peace.... that would the better for it and our surtee.
We should try to make the mind understand that, we do His bhakti to just please Him, without any conditions nor expectations, so no matter if we see apparent progress or not, for progress in sikhee is undoubted, sometimes we may perceive it or not, but definetely progress is there.
So brother do not loose heart, stick faithfully to your spiritual practices, His daya meher, His kirpa, will definetely take you much farther and to higher heights, just do not get dismotivated, for you should fix in mind that He never leaves His lovers, bhagats.... He is much aware of whatever we are doing or going through.
Just as the sun is always up there, it is only that sometimes, that the dark karmic clouds come into our way so we do not see the sun, but that does not mean the sun has not arised or gone somewhere, when the clouds move away in due time we will have the sunshine again.
    Stay blessed.
    SSA.

So, how will you choose a Shabad then? Can you look at the English Transliterations of the Shabads?
For the first Shabad, you have to recite it 11 times daily (at Amritvela) for 31 days.
The last one, you have to recite it 21 times. That's the smallest one (4 verses).
Let me know bro, if Daas can help you in any other way.
