  1. doesnt bhujangi mean youth? I thought Baba Gurbaksh SIngh was old.
  2. Guru have given us the path of initiation. the samprdaye may introduce their own but these i feel are worthless, as Guru Ji has already given us the true initiation ceremony. Who started initiaiton in Nirmalas? Bhai Daya Singh Ji? if it was then he had Khande ki pahul. what about the udasis ? Did Guru Nanak give Baba Sri Chand any initiation ? Did Baba Ji give this same initiation to Baba Gurditta? and on and on. sometimes i think that guru has given us the teraching, but in our cleverness we have distorted it or blurred it.
  3. fear or curiosity will tranform into prem. doesnt fear of Guru turn into love of Guru? or something like that. have heard that the initial step is of fear of remaining in churasi, which then turns to prem of Guru, who relaeases from churasi.
  4. i have bought 2 different translations in english of Bhagvat Gita. one is by Sir Edwin Arnold, who's translations is also in prose, which i dont know why i find quite annoying. it says that this is the version that gandhi kept with him all the time. the other is by EKnath Easswaran, which I find is very interesting to read and the translations are very literal. I have also found myself a granth of Mahabharat in gurmukhi, which i will try and read sometime, it is supposed to be the gurmukhi version of the Vyas version.
  5. how did it apply in Guru Ji's times? There you will find your answer.
  6. in terms of realism and idealism where do you think gurmat stands?
  7. wouldnt it have been more of a forward thinking policy to ensure that women didnt have to resort to prostitution, before tackling men who want to pay for sex? im sure that there will be a percentage of women (and men hookers) who enjoy what they do, but aren't most forced to do it? Think about it, you have a group of men who want to fornicate, and the King/Ruler is advertising for prostitutes.
  8. shouldn't jots dhoops and divas etc be allowed to burn out naturally? why wold someone want to end them b4 their time?
  9. reading this granth leads me to beleive that hindu-mat had grown in sikhi by this time. i can see why the sanatani hindusikh brothers love it.
  10. i have finished PS, and i have to say on the whole it was very boring, uninspiring and largely forgetable. There are snippets of gems but these are rarely remembered when the burden of "dharma" is placed on one's shoulders in the way that PS advocates. On the cover it says this is testimony of a sanatan sikh, and if this is so, then good luck to the sanatanis, cos they gonna need it. Reading this largely made m feel that the procedures laid out were exactly the kind of stuff that Guru Nanak wanted us to forget, largely worship or karam which is meaningless. there is a great focus on numbers and amounts which dont really mean anything. Some of the things that i find objectionable to the teachings of the Gurus: On the birth of a boy, the proscribed rehit is to take place after 7 days, but for girls after 9 days. why 2 extra days? The wedding cost has been set to 25% of the brides father's assets. why 25 %? Widows remarriage is ideally avoided, according to PS, whereas Guru Amardas favoured remarriage. why should widows have to jump through fire to get remarried? Who made these guys Ram Chander? why are widows told their remarriage will be disgraceful? The bride groom should wear gold ankle chains? why ? to look like a gay? A bridegroom should have for his bride on the wedding day, a burka, tight pants. why? it says after a body has been cremated, khande ki pahul should be sprinkled on the ashes and unburnt bones of the deceased. for what? widows should only eat once every day, and salt is to be avoided. the singing of kirtan for the deceased varies from age to age. a man who has relations with woman other than his wife(or wives) should be fined 500 rupees. why so excessive? 500 rupees in that time, who could pay that kind of money? It gives license to keep people as slaves whereas the history that runs parallel to this PS bears witness to the contrary. also saying that Kings should encourage brothels to avoid unmarried relationships. I could add more. On the plus side of this PS : techniques of Simran. the responsibilites of caring for the body is excellent. the way of sahaj yog gives valuable information on living. you can find these in any good book on gurmat so apart from these i can see why this granth was forgotten.
  11. jaikara ji, it doesnt,it was just a sideline about other peoples not just sikhs, who benefited from 24 avataras etc. just answer the question i asked in my previous post above.
  12. go back to my first question: "can u reveal if Guru Gobind Singh accepted Ram as a messenger, given the teachings of Bachitr Natak?" earlier to that you had written : "We also need to understand that Sri Ramchander ji has been accepted as a messenger of Parmatma" you getting confused over caste and castes. but another time for that. have a look at the above question first.
  13. PS certainly has some very interesting pieces in it. It has some which seem peculiar, because you would think, would Guru ever practice this? i will give one example to begin with and add some more later. The PS is a tranlation by mcleod, and it states: on the birth of a boy, a hole should be bored through the ear and a gold or steel hoop inserted... more later.
  14. the 24 avtaras of vishnu were amongst other Dasam Bani re-written to show the low caste poeples of india, what had been denied to them, as they were not allowed to read sanskrit. Guru Ji side stepped this by re-writing 24 avataras in Brij language amongst others in Gurmukhi letters, so the teachings of the sanskrit granths were available to everyone regardless of caste. Dasam Guru Darbar had many purposes, and not just for Sikhs, but Hindus as well. especially the ones who used to get molten lead poured into their ears if they happened to hear any sanskrit teachings.
  15. did Guru Ji write the Katha of Sri Ram Chander for specific religious instruction or to let the low castes know what had been denied to them for yugs, with a purpose of martial inspiration?
  16. can u reveal if Guru Gobind Singh accepted Ram as a messenger, given the teachings of Bachitr Natak?
  17. at our gurdwara, i was given 1 minute on stage to talk about 1984, and the dhadhi jatha did a parsang of Baba Banda Singh conquering Sirhind.
  18. compare this with the 57 hindus in sialkot who feel forced to become muslims, just to earn their livelihood.
  19. they only say things like that when it suits them. The worrying thing is some of our own say it as well.
  20. the vid has gone from the link given. anyone no where i can see this vid?
  21. i lived in stoke for many years, and it has a huge bnp presence. even the place where i lived in, had a good share of racists. even my nieghbours in 7 years avoided me, never speaking to me once. the place he called mini-afghanistan is shelton. i used to go there cos its very close to the gurdwara in stoke, and the only place where you can buy atta in stoke. and the only place in stoke you will find a lot of pakistanis.
  22. Binod Singh still left Darbar Sahib with BSB, so I wouldnt say that he wasn't a Bandai Khalsa. But the thing is, that the term Bandai Khalsa was not until the death of BSB. He had his followers, but they were not known formally or informally as Bandai. One thing is sure that 2 of the 5 singhs Binod Singh and Baaj Singh, sent with BSB to advise him were with him pretty much upto his last battle. The term Bandai came into being after BSB execution in Delhi, where some of his followers at large claimed that he had not died, biut lived through the torture that Farrukhsiyar put him through by use of yoga, and then with his followers escaped to Jammu, where this sect still exists. My vidya Guru interestingly told me that during this "new" BSB is accredited with a gurdwara on one of the rivers which he crossed sitting on a big stone slab to prove that he was the original BSB and also signed his name on that stone, which is still supposed to exist today at that Gurdwara.
  23. this migght be another topic but was either of them having chaur waved over them in the presence of Aad Guru Darbar? Neo can you clarify please on the Baba Khem Singh Bedi? what i have read of Khem Singh Bedi is that he is supposed to have had requested a cushion to sit elevated from sangat in Guru Darbar, by virtue of ancestry of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Maybe you can shed some light on this as well.
  24. BSB was a Rajput and his early life was spent in acquiring the lifestyle of Kshatriya. He renounced this to become a bairagi.
