A good first step would be to download an app of Gurbani and start reading it. There are a few out there.

For me it's respect. i bow to my gutkas and also to some of my books which are more gurmat based as well. Like if Im reading a teeka or Gurbilas, Panth Parkash etc I will touch it to to my forehead out of respect. For other books like Sikh/Panjabi history I don't. It may also be something about knowledge as well. If you are learning from the book, is that book a "guru" a teacher for you? If it is then bowing or some kind of respect is necessary. I for one, never allow books to be on the floor, or touch them with my feet.

It's good to hear from you, being a Hindu from Pakistan. I hope you'll tell more about yourself in the coming time.

From your question, I am reminded of the discourse between Guru Nanak and the Siddhs. The Siddhs had great naam kamai but they were not on the path of oneness that Guru Nanak Sahib envisaged, as they had forgot their religious duty.

Remember Naam Daan is daan just like any other daan. How many daans do we ask for in Ardas? Each has their own place.

Yes I agree, but to me that just creates confusion in peoples mind as they think if they are watching a film about a historical character, then the events portrayed in that film must be true. Then there is so much disappointment when the real facts are discovered.

2 examples are Braveheart, where incorrect info about battles is shown, and also JFK film, which caused an outrage in OOSA when it was released as everybody thought it was based 100% on true facts.

I was having a quick look through Panth Parkash, and I noticed a chapter where Guru Sahib asks the Khalsa, which lands they want to rule, and Guru Sahib will bless them with that rule. The Khalsa would only commit themsleves to Panjab, and were worried about expanding their domains into regions which were far away. Guru Sahib said that Panjabi Sikhs will only keep Sikhi in Panjab, but it would be the duty of Sikhs from other places who would keep Sikhi going there. Seems to tie in with why Sikh never really developed strongly beyond Panjab, and how also, Panjabi Sikhs haven't taken much notice of Sikhs outside of Panjab until very recently.

Great news for the Sikh Panth. Manjit Singh GK party has won the Delhi Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections for 2017, taking 35 out of 45 seats.

This is great news as the missionary party will not be able to cuase mistrust, divisiion and false parchar in Delhi gurdwaras for another 5 years. GK's party has done a   lot of parchar of Sri Dasme Patshah's Granth Sahib, and no doubt will continue to do more. A great result.

so Nayan should not accept your interpretation that it is ok to do both?

you have posted a confusing statement saying that everyone interprets how they say fit, and not to trust them, but you have done exactly the same. just how you have read from a holy person about both being ok, we have read that its not ok. Not that its wrong either and that the police will round, but Gurmat is always telling us not to get stuck in false or worthless worship. Throughout Gurbani and Guru-Kaal, it has been repaeted that Waheguru ony is worthy of worship, not the illusion/maya that hehas created.

are you a sikh or a hindu?

where you been bro, its been happpeing for years. Even the gurdwara at Sirhind, still held the doors that the Sahibzadas went through, but they were all cleared out to make the new gurdwara.

as for in my time, the destruction of Maharaja Ranjit Singhs period buildings at Hazur Sahib to beautify and open up the ground before the ground was nothing short of a crime to me.

There were 2 phases to the Singh Sabha lehar, the first was in the 1880s which started the rmission of spreading Gurmat on a wider and more rigorous platform, the 2nd was in the 1920s which was more widely known as the "Gurdwara Sudhar Lehar".

OK, that's good to hear. When you approach it from a western perspectice, thing can go badly wrong. There is no rationale or logic for "sharda". Western concepts of evalution incude tearing everything down to the last atom. And even then, trying to split that atom further. There was a great thread on here about "Science and Sikhi" many years ago.

But you have to ask yourself did any of that truth rub off on Bhai Lehna?
