  9. haven't read the rest of the thread... but i just wondered... is it possible for a blind person to fall in love at first sight?
  10. i also have just started reading the same book... will tell u what i think when i finish. jahan... seeing as u have such an interest in punjab, i just got some books from india u might be interested in... "the punjab a hundred years ago" as described by v. jacquemont (1831) & a. soltykoff (1842) , translated & edited by h.l.o. garrett. (1971) "the punjaub" by lieut. colonel steinbach (1883) "the legends of the punjab" by r.c. temple (1962) "a glossary of the tribes and castes of the punjab and the north-west frontier province" 3 volumes (1883) let me know if u want to borrow any. are u coming to the sikh student camp?
  11. our house faces towards the sun... but we have our "front" door is actually on the side of our house, which faces north. does that count?
  12. that's very true. i have seen nihangs in india practice gatka, & it is nothing like shaster vidya. it is exactly the same as jahir gatka practiced in the uk by groups such as baba fateh singh gatka akhara & bhai fauja singh gatka akhara. there are three possibilities for this difference: 1. shaster vidya is made up & gatka is the true sikh martial art. 2. gatka is made up & shaster vidya is the true sikh martial art. 3. both are made up & the true sikh martial art has been lost. it appears u believe option 1, but u have failed to give any historical evidence to show that is the case. nor have u critiqued shaster vidya on its martial effectiveness (although to be fair u haven't criticised its effectiveness.) please could u provide any evidence to show either that shaster vidya is not the true martial art for sikhs, or that gatka is (if u believe that to be true.) the fact that nihangs in india practice gatka does not prove anything. also, have u ever been to a shaster vidya lesson? i agree. competitive martial arts work on a points system or locks/pinning the opponent down, whereas shaster vidiya is focussed around beating the opponent by any means (included for example bone breaking.) could u please elaborate?

  15. there was a programme on tv a few months ago about the indian soldiers who fought for the british during ww2. they were all abandoned by the british & indian governments & do not receive any pension benefits from either government. interestingly the indian soldiers who defected to the japanese are viewed as heroes & given a full military pension from the indian government.
  16. aaaaaaaaaarrrrggghhh!!! u & sukhi_______v are the reason i decided to limit my time on sa. when someone asked me how i was, i said "do be do be quack quack"... & later that same day i told someone to "chillax". that was when i realised that i'd been spending too much time surfing sa & u freaky people were getting to me! :P back to the topic: n3o, u didn't mention saram khand. did u not want it to be discussed also? or did u just forget to add it?

  18. sorry mates, but i'm too lazy to read through the whole topic thoroughly... i've skim-read it, & i just have 3 points to make. 1. why the obsession with labels? why must someone fit a certain description of the term 'sikh'... there is never going to be complete consensus on the definition of 'sikh', so trying to decide who is 'sikh' & who not is a futile exercise. 2. samosasingh... u smacked it! 3. say, "hello" to mr duck
  19. thanks for the reply. about the fourth one... how do u know if someone is evil? or is it if the motivation behind giving the money is evil? (which would make more sense to me)
  20. that's a pretty open-ended question... there are loads of universities depending on what level u want to study at & what sort of area u want to live in. perhaps if u clarified exactly what u are looking for & what are the most important criteria, we might be able to help u.
