Are These Rehatnama Genuine?

The rehitname need to be looked at in context, its stupidity to read them literally as being relevant now.

Elements of the rehits were written in accordance with the then current politcal climate - and hence these were warnings and advice at a time when Singhs had a bounty on their head and were looked at as terrorists by the large part of the Muslim population.

The fact that probably all the Gurus Rababis and Dhadis were Muslims and an intricate part of the darbar refutes the literal translation of these rehits. The revered Pir Buddu Shah amongst many others also cause problems for a literal racist/prejudice translation.

Amardeep also has a very good point, the word/s used in the rehits could easily refer to a specific group within the Muslim world.

I think silence is right. I have a theory that the ban on halal meat, the muslim hookah, the ban on learning farsi and arabic etc are symbols of the oppresors lifestyle. I think the overall message in the rehitnamas is that you should'n adopt the lifestyle of your opressor, and not so much the items themselves.... Later on it would apply to the british ie dont adopt their lifestyle in the way they clothe themselves, the way they behave, their music forms (ie introducing the waja and replacing the dilruba sitar and rabab) etc..

The rehitnamai (and proto rehits) are all correct in their own right – they reflect a changing socio-political environment – elements of rehits have always been evolving in nature and slightly diverse, reflecting different peoples knowledge, understandings etc. The Na koi hindu na koi musslmaan is philosophical communication – you can’t compare that to an element of a time specific survival strategy based code of conduct.

Other quotes relate to rajniti - and as the plan was to uproot the Mughal rule - advice for Khalsa rule was created.

I have heard pir buddhu shah converted to Sikhism and desired Gurus darshan, so if we go along with the understanding that they were convertees, but in janamsakhis Bhai Mardana says he desires to see Mecca and all the "turks" go there and say this and that. But we understand Bhai Mardana was muslim, there words like muhammaden to describe muslim, maybe it referred to the actual primal Muslim invaders of India people like arabs, or maybe the actual turkish people or who looked turkish were called turks. There are some other funny rehatnamas around so its hard to know if they are genuine or not. But how about Guru sahibs Na koi hindu na koi muslaman, the denial of religious label, would it be applicable?

No such thing as a Sikh convert. Sounds like the usual revisionist BS you get spoon-fed by the 'yoof' in the west.
