Protecting the vulnerable

Recommended Posts

Hi. Just joined this forum to bring something to your attention.

I know about this forum because I used to be interested in Sikhism. Still am interested in the history side of things but that's about it.

Recently, it came to my attention that a certain individual with a deep history in the UK side of your circle has had serious allegations made against him. I don't care for him, but the fact that they involve an underage person has compelled me to write this note. In short, I saw a couple of Youtube videos while browsing content related to nihangs.

I have no idea whether the allegations are true, but the fact is, this person, a former close associate of yours, is now once again preaching to the Sikh community, and is in the same position as he was when the alleged abuse incident occurred. In other words, jumping from a samprdaya to a new Sikh organisation, making a new career as a Sikh preacher.

I am writing to say, if you created this problem because of your chronically bad judgment and how sweetly he sings gurbani or how much he's supposed to know, then it's your responsibility and not mine or anyone else's to ensure that he is not in a position where anything similar might happen again.

I don't need to name him as I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. This isn't about him but about protecting the vulnerable. If you've made a mess, take responsibility.

I'm out.

Daas does not know whom who are talking about.

Who is it? Maybe he can present his side of the story over here.

Lol. Thank you. In the world of a multitude of paid and volunteer, national, international, and organinational trolls and arsonists that has so much credibility.

What few instances exist that allegations surround already have our attention. Thank you.

By all means stick around and ask whatever you like about Nihangs. We'll get a better feel for you fast too.

I don't know the facts and I'm not involved, so I'm hesitant to name names.

The videos I saw were by a guy called Malkeet Kang (?). I think he's a Sikh rapper or something. Anyway, the videos were quickly slapped down.

I was around in 2006/7 to witness someone receiving a lot of praise on this forum here by the UK Budha Dal nihangs.

These guys, if they know people well enough to make them Mahakal, give them special agiya to do parchaar, give them farlas, etc. are bound to know better than me who I'm talking about and whether there is any merit in the accusations by the kid who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by that person. Me, personally, I don't know anything about anything at all. But I smell a rat when someone jumps ship so drastically, not only leaving the country following the court case (according to Kang), but also switching from a traditional Sikh "dal" to something completely neo. The account given of the alleged sexual assault was graphic.

I don't support revenge beatings or street justice, but neither do I support cover-ups, if that's what's happened.

This was all you had to say.

Now you can deal with it or cover it up as you please. Good doesn't have to succeed in this world.

I'm not sticking around, thanks. I know what I need to know.

You may call yourself khalsa but khalsa is not one who chants sweetly or who sells Guru Granth wedding services in Monaco but one who does the right thing.

I've tried to do the right thing and now it's up to you. Bye.

Also sounds like you're convoluting two seperate persons to me.

Sorry, didn't mean to conflate 2 people.

The videos I watched were those by Malkeet Kang, who goes by the name of Mal Singh. He implicated a specific individual, and it's that individual I'm talking about.

The New Age merchant PhD guy has absolutely nothing to do with it. I just used him as an example to say there are problems that arise when khalsa is redefined as "someone who has preserved some aspect of classical Indian arts". It's just a man, and he's been put on a pedestal. Sooner of later, a man wants additional resources, he wants pleasure, i.e. good food, alcohol and sex. So whatever they learned was worthless as they sold out, but that's their business.

As for the accused guy, he too had been elevated because he'd studied Dasam Granth and had some traditional knowledge of classical Sikhism. Same with the "chosen one" last Sikh warrior, etc. All of these guys were celebrated because of something they learned rather than their fundamental values. It will keep happening. People are going to sell out because it's a bad organisational setup and it's fundamentally upside down. But that's very much a lesser evil compared with what's alleged in the present case. Ruining somone's mind and entire life through childhood sexual abuse, if that's what actually happened - is in an entirely different ballpark.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm done with the whole religions/Sikhism thing, and have nothing to do with anything. I wish you well, hope you can sort it out or at least prevent a recurrence, but even if you can't, we don't have power over anything really but our own actions.

If you're talking about who I think you are, I think that him kissing some adult moti (although not commendable) is a world apart from someone sexually abusing someone.

That all being said, people also need to stop this personality worshipping thing they have going on. In this day and age, a person has to be some naive fool not to recognise that there are predators hidden away all over the place.

Sometimes I think what happens is some young guy, who is confused about his sexuality, goes to these male dominated places, where at least some of the people will be homosexual, and sends the wrong message out. Then the older gay thinks that they have been given some sort of consent for some 'activity'.

  • 2 weeks later...

There is web page somewhere with sikhs that have been named and shamed for committing vile acts. I saw it on sikhsangat I think but have no idea what it was called. If someone knows the link, then that would be useful?

I've attached a pdf that will be an eye-opener for some of you. It's written by a sikh who was part of a vigilante gang in UK but he'd also witnessed a number of pious sikh groups that disguised  disgusting  behaviour of some individuals.

There are some very deep truths in there and a number of them; I knew or had heard of when I lived there over 10 years ago.
