Ukraine’s amateur army: Thousands of young civilians are drafted into the military and trained for war in desperate bid to fend off Putin’s 100,000 well-trained troops

  • Young men and women, some as young as 21, have been taking part in Kyiv Territorial Defence unit training
  • They are among thousands of Ukrainian civilians who are receiving basic combat skills as they prepare for a possible conflict with Moscow
  • In the event of a potential invasion by Russia, these youngsters will be part of the country's civil resistance that will carry on the fight against Russian soldiers if the Ukrainian military is overwhelmed

If Russia does invade Ukraine, a move that Putin has denied, the civilians will be under direct command of the Ukrainian military.

They keep saying how young they are and then also saying the youngest is 21.

Russia would immediately start thinking about mars if they conquered earth. Out of the imperials I like russians the best in many regards, but I think they would gladly take over everybody. Especially anyone who was formerly under their thumb. They spin it as reuniting mother russia, saving russians from these second rate post soviet union countries. Blah blah.

What russia did not anticipate is how unbelievably resilient and lethal and committed the ukranians are. You see that 52 year old female soldier in the photos? She's ready. Their civilians have already put up incredible, incredible, militia defense with no provisions. With more of them really properly armed and equipped and trained as they seem to be? They're not playing. Ukraine looks ready to go down to the last bro. It already proved it. They're just more ready.

You have to be careful with assumptions. Look at how quickly the 'coalition trained Afghan army' folded.

True. But in this case the government and their equivalent of taliban and population are all unified. And they already have gone down in history for some of the most epic, prolonged, outnumbered, resistance fighting.

You're right though, never know til ya know, but they did excellent last "season" and I'm hoping they take the "super bowl" this year. Well really I'm hoping there is no "super bowl" but if there is I hope the home team wins.

And in my opinion the coalition army was never intended to hold, I'm pretty sure almost all of it, and almost all the government already planned on training and equipping the returning taliban, first chance they got. I almost wonder if the us didn't want that as well.

I wouldn’t get too optimistic about the Ukrainians if I were you lot, the country is effectively an anarcho-fascist state. This is their idea of culture:

The reason we keep hearing about how tough and resilient they are is for two reasons. The brits have to justify why they have spent so much military aid on them and to play down fears of a refugee crisis coming to Britain. Once those Russian tanks enter the Ukraine, large sections of their population will be racing to the Polish border and will later try to claim asylum further west.

The pressure is starting to take its toll on the Ukrainian military:
