Dalsingh how come our sants and sampradeys haven't been able to eliminate this problem?  They had hundreds of years and hugh amount of followers and resources to end this problem but it still persists?

I think it's a number of factors. One big thing is that a lot of apna society condones and supports casteism. I think a major reason for this is because the mentality has been (firstly quietly) promoted heavily through caste-based politics (look at how the Akali Dal has been running for decades now) and privately at dinner table level in families, and (then even more openly through) media like movies and songs. I think even university level academic works have been infiltrated by people with this mentality. A lot of our lot are simple creatures who are especially susceptible to  'quick-fix' ego boosts based on caste. Brits knew this and manipulated it.  Because many aren't on the negative receiving end of its worst effects, they see it as no big issue, and actually good because it gives them an elevated sense of themselves. 

But it does seem that its severity may be worse in some areas than others. Like Malwai people seem less in your face about it than say Doabans. 

Some samperdayas too might have been infiltrated by followers with this mentality, plus you have to remember that for a long while (post-annexation) the Singh Sabha lehar held a big sway on lumpen sections of the panth and a lot of that was tied to covert attempts by certain castes to get 'special treatment' over others from their colonial masters - who were employing a divide and rule policy.  Frankly, many of our lot aren't intellectually astute enough to figure out it's long term negative consequences on the panth over a quick and easy ego boost. 

In essence multiple forces work to support, promote and propagate this mentality.
